I know Some were concerned about the run defense vs unc, but look around a lot of team have struggled defending the run at times this season, it happens...

-Bama gave up 200 plus rushing yards to Louisiana lafayette this past week.

-ohio state gave up 230 yard to Oregon state and trace mcsorley the QB from penn state just had 160 plus rushing yards against them...

I used Bama and Ohio state for example who have some of the best personnel in the country on defense and they still struggled defending the run against inferior opponents(obviously not talking about penn state)to show how it can happen to anyone.

Regardless overall our run defense has been good throughout the season but obviously had a hiccup for sure. But imo a lot of that will be fixed once Jaquan Johnson because a lot of those 10-15 plus runs wont breakout with him back there .

No excuse this week. Akers better be aching after this weeks beatdown. Their OL is one of the worst in P5 and our D is list as one of the best. There should be no holes being opened up this week.

This mindset is what leads to the meltdowns on the gameday board when someone runs for a first down. We're not going to hold P5 teams to 90 total yards.

Yeah, i wont freak out unless its a weekly thing. FIU was completely shut down and Toledo we did pretty good. Did Bama really give up that much rushing yards? Wow.

Brock, do you even look into the games that you start threads about? You know Bama gave up like half of those rushing total yards when they were already up 56-0 correct? Go look at the play by play and get back to me about Bama struggling against the run. You need to learn how to do more research before starting threads like this.

Lafayette didn't have a single drive that gained more than 28 yards until after Bama was up 56-0.

In general, I’m not really concerned about our run defense. I think, more specifically, we struggle against running quarterbacks.

Bruh the fact that we need a safety to ensure a strong run defense is apart of the problem.

Then how people came here freaking out after we gave up 17 points to FIU after we were up 31-0 with 10 mins to go? 200 yards is alot of yards rushing, that's one thing Bama never really allow teams to do no matter who they have in there. 5.3 yards per carry. I think the point of the thread is for people to stop freaking out if we dont hold every team under 100 yards rushing or under 250 total yards. But i digress

I’m not worried about the yards given up. Yes it sucks to give up 200+ yards on the ground, but as long as they don’t get TD’s to go along with those yards. I’m okay with the “bend, but don’t break” mentality when it comes to our run defense.

in this scheme Jaquan Johnson spends quite a bit of time playing as an in box safety so he’s going to make a lot of plays in the run game

Explain Ohio state then who has as good or better talent up front struggling in the run game. Point remains the same it can happen to anyone.

They played a way tougher opponent on the road and I ******* hate that school as much as I hate FSU and Florida. Diaz would make Trace McSorley look like the second coming of Michael Vick. But keep pumping that blind homer **** you'll get a lot of those precious upvotes.

The qb run option is hard as **** to stop. It's run in the NFL and even NFL players have a hard time stopping it.

Our rush defense is currently ranked 23rd according to the ncaa.com website.

Stats - College Football FBS | NCAA.com

BOO FKN HOO CRY ME A RIVER

NO ISSUES WITH THE DEFENSE, EVERY DEFENSE HAS A WEAKNESS OURS IS MISDIRECTIONS AND THE QB SNEAK... I CAN LIVE WITH IT, DONT CARE.

/ Alabama is currently ranked 43rd by comparison
Imo we do have a few issues with the defense but a primary complaint of mine has been corrected and that’s getting off the field promptly on 3rd downs. Overall I like the progress in year 3, but I’d still want to cut down on snaps a number of players receive in the back 7 who shouldn’t.(Robert knowles mainly)

I don't like defenses where the cover guys lead in tackles...

Not really worried about the total yardage at the end of the day on the ground it's the bad reads that seem to happen way too frequent now by some of our LB's. Running themselves out of plays and making wrong reads is something that needs to be cleaned up. Better teams and backs will turn those into points when it's all said and done. We certainly have shown the potential shut down running games VT and ND games last year so I don't think it's scheme overall, I think it's players making a wrong read here or there.

I don't think we are as bad as we showed on Thursday against the rush at all. Discipline and consistency on 3rd down is key though.
