@TheOriginalCane random question for you. When we made our run to the CFP championship game, do you think people who wanted gear (the bandwagon fans or people who like to pretend they always liked Miami now that their team were eliminated) were turned off by what adidas offers? I don’t love what adidas puts out there for us but are we more critical of it then people who have no rooting interest in the team? I believe if we were a Nike or Jordan school more people who don’t care about Miami would buy our stuff.
I will tell you a true story, and there are certain posters on this board who can back me up on this.
When we made it to the CFP Final, there was a particular polo shirt that SEVERAL of us wanted to buy. Black polo (they made a white one too) that had the U, it had the 3-stripes, and it had the CFP logo.
We texted each other, we could not find this shirt anywhere. It had been available on at least one website, and then sold out.
One of the guys (who posts on CIS) called CanesWear, and we assured them that we would buy the polo in the quantities required to make it worth their while to place the order. Gave sizes too.
So here are the questions, and part of this is based on my own experiences at NASCAR dealing with branded merch, particularly time-sensitive merch:
1. If you plan on making multiple versions of an item that has a limited-duration component (the CFP logo), why not make enough? Because if you make enough, sure, you might have a few you need to discount later, but you still maximized the ones you sold at the top price.
2. If you are "sold out", why are there still additional items available to be special-ordered LATER (i.e., after the game has been played)?
3. Why make a premium item, and then only sell it via ONE outlet? Why not offer that item to all outlets, particularly the UM Bookstore and Fanatics?
Now, keep in mind, I bought two different items that were very similar. I bought a New Era hat with the same elements (black, UM logo, CFP logo) and I bought a matching polo. The hat was not a problem, I ordered that directly from New Era. So then who is the problematic party? Which company did not have this polo listed ON ITS OWN WEBSITE? Could it be...
