New tight end coach Mike Viti

After reading the non-cane stuff on him, I like his cultural addition. Badass, workaholic, warrior, who understands finding the right people to add to a program. Is he a "convert the hooper to football guy"? NO, but he will find high desire guys who want to prove themselves and apparently he can teach...................

Very interesting hire... he's basically been an Army lifer! Found this on his resume which makes the move slightly odd from a timing standpoint "In the winter of 2025, Viti was promoted to Associate Head Coach / Offensive Line." So he basically just got promoted there and now leaves 2.5 months later. Who knows what his motive is, I'm sure he got a significant pay bump and maybe he aspires to be a future OC or HC. Culturally he fits Mario but does he fit recruiting athletes down here and nationally? Time will tell. Either way - love that he's a grinder and loyal. Welcome Coach!
he is either cashing in for his family after years of not getting paid top dollar or decided he wants to move up in coaching.

We have elite WRs. We have elite RBs. We have an elite QB. We don't need more production. But we do have a young and untested OL.

At least for next year, blocking at the TE position is infinitely more valuable than receiving. I am absolutely on board with our TEs being elite pass and run blockers.

I don't think Mario hired this guy as a long term option. I think he hired him for 2027 when he looked at what the OL and offense needed this year.

We have now brought in a former triple option QB to coach RBs (was Upshaw at GA Southern when Monken was there too? - just thought about that connection) and a former triple option RB/triple option OL coach to coach TEs. Makes you wonder what they're thinking behind the scenes or if there's something new they're incorporating there.

Also, speculating on assistant coaching hires is completely pointless now. Nobody mentioned either of these dudes the entire time. Corner will probably be exactly the same.
If samson and max are our guards i can definitely see more gap scheme stuff because they’re more athletic than mccoy and coop. They probably won’t be as good as pushing mfs around tho so not having to be so reliant on duo and IZ is good.

More gap scheme and outside zone with inserts should equal more play action, mensah is great there. Tulane was heavy play action if im not mistaken

Monken was only at GA Southern for his transfer sit-out year before taking the Army job; in other words, you’re correct. GA Southern would beat UF 26-20 to end that year (2013). I thought we were back when we beat UF by a similar margin earlier in the season:roll-canes2:

Anyways, Favian played for 4 head coaches and 4 offensive coordinators in 5 years: Mario, Monken, Fritz, and Tyson Summers who is the current DC at Colorado State. Dell McGee was his interim HC when he won GoDaddy Bowl MVP.

OCs: Tim Cramsey (just got hired at Arkansas for OC from Memphis), Brent Davis is the TE coach for Pitt after being VT’s OL/TE coach, Doug Ruse was recently an analyst at South Alabama, and David Dean currently HC at Delta State University (didn’t know this existed). DD was Valdosta State’s HC prior to that.

Last coaching tree tidbit, Mario’s former OC Bill Legg was at Minnesota with Hetherman in 2024.

I believe Viti replaced Davis as OL coach at Army when the latter went to VT.
Some folks mistake the Triple Option run at the academies with the old Oklahoma, Bama, Texas, etc wishbones.
These offenses have evolved over time.
Calhoun at AFA was an NFL assistant at one point during his career. His and the Army/Navy offenses are sneaky good at passing when they have to.
