yes totally agree. we'd take the field looking like our uni's were designed by a 3 year old at times. it was total garbage. I hope we never go back to Nike. Adidas has been far superior. Nice clean looks.
 
There are two sides to the Adidas sportswear. The merchandise made available to the players/staff and the products made available to the public. The latter is significantly lacking on many levels. The Miami store on the Adidas website is joke. The lack of options, style, branded merchandise and diversity forces many of us to purchase UM merchandise from other brands holding a Miami license. It’s disappointing and somewhat embarrassing.

With that said, the UM admin should take the best deal (i.e., money). Most of us can find what we want (sort of) from other brands.

2000-2003 were classic jerseys. Yes, they were the first non-traditional jerseys, but they had the strongest storyline of any of our jerseys ever.

I'll grant anyone on this board "2004-2007". But, seriously, please explain how 2000-2003 and 2008-2013 were "mostly garbage". That's just nuts. Look, I laugh when people wear knock-off 2008-2013 jerseys with super-wide stripes that do not match what our players actually wore on the field. And I realize all our 2000-2003 jerseys are getting threadbare from wear.

But let's not complain about "Pro Combat" and all the other one-offs that our idiot ADs approved.

I know you're a company guy, @DMoney, but please stop with "adidas was a breath of fresh air". RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX, adidas gave us the worst Miami jersey of all-time, an execrable piece of **** that was gone in ONE YEAR. Even the bra-straps lasted for 4 seasons.

2015 was awful but the current Adidas gear is better than anything from Nike so what does it matter?
2014 again pathetic
2008-2013 looked like a 5 year old designed it, we aren't a cartoon
2004-2007 cmon
2000-2003 was dumb

The Nike gear sucked! It may be the case that shirts, shoes, and hats from Nike are better. OK whatever but the current Adidas uni's are so much better than anything from Nike.

Our present look is FANTASTIC. Agree, the Nike looks were 50/50 as we all forget the Christmas Ornaments, Bra strap, ect. However, the Pro Combat treatment was really awesome…wish we could have a little of that back.. All that being said, Adidas has given us back our classic look in football, basketball pretty solid and the baseball uniforms are FIRE even if the team is ice cold.

The "clam" was the result of a licensing/contract dispute with John Routh, who owns the Sebastian (secondary) logo. I love John, but he's stubborn, he is the guy who insisted on getting rid of the corncob pipe.

And I'm not arguing with you on wearing a clean, traditional jersey. That's fine. What I AM saying is that Nike didn't force that down our throats. Those were three redesigns (actually 4 if you include 2014) that were approved by 4 different ADs.

Nike doesn't force Michigan or Taint to change their uniforms. Maybe Dee thought the 2000-2003 swirls were good innovations for the new millenium.

The bra-straps were terrible.

But honestly, if you looked at 2008-2013, our longest jersey run since 2000, they were EXACTLY what you are saying ("clean traditional jersey") but for those "framing stripes" on the back. If you lose those two stripes, it's a near-perfect jersey. And that jersey was worn for 6 years of the 15 that we are talking about, since we switched from the shadow-box jersey of the late 90s to the hurricane swirls of 2000-2003.

And I think it's funny that you call the jersey switch in 2016 a god-send, as it came directly after the adidas abortion of 2015, and it STILL wasn't perfected for 7 or 8 more years. Even though the "overall design" was simpler, we had a ton of problems from 2016 until recently with:

a. the names on the backs of the jerseys
b. the material not sitting properly, such that it was hard to read player numbers on certan body types
c. the font on the numbers (don't even get me started on how Michael Wyche's jersey number looked like apostrophe marks)
d. the U on the v-neck collar was NEVER done properly for years

Are we good TODAY? Sure. But let's not act like it didn't take adidas a LOT longer to fix a "clean, traditional" jersey than it took for Nike to switch off of the bra-straps.

As just ONE example, we had to change the nameplates MID-SEASON because they were so bad.

I just laugh at people who are "so in love" with adidas because they are now treating us well after years of being an abused partner.

and if it werent for richt basically forcing the change, 2016 wouldnt have happened.

i remember it was released as a throwback uni that richt forced it to be the new unis (unveiled for the FSU game after playing the first four games that year in the feather bull****).

side note: im still in shock that the school invited convicted murderer DJ Cutler Ridge Laz to their unveiling at LIV lol

the funny part is abercrombie is making better UM licensed apparel than Adidas is.

But if we gave Nike 10 consecutive years to continue tinkering with (basically) two designs (the feathers and the "traditional"), I think that they would have nailed it a lot sooner.

We can go on and on and on and on about the designs that were approved from 2000-2014. Yes, those were not the "traditional" jersey. And like so much of the Nike-adidas threads, it's an apples-to[-oranges comparison.

Let's compare apples to apples. The "traditional" Nike jerseys from the late 1980s to 1999 **** on anything that adidas has done. Period.

If we want to criticize the Miami ADs and Nike designers who embraced bold new designs in the new millenum, fine. But let's not assume that's what we would get with Nike in 2028, IF MIAMI DEMANDS TRADITIONAL JERSEYS.

Adidas uniforms were embarrassingly bad and worse than Nike with the feathers and strawberry design that took forever for them to get rid of.

Nike quality is waaaaay better than the adidas spandex. I’m sure someone in the program can work with them on a traditional no BS design
 
I agree, the uniforms have looked better, but the gear for us fans, is ******* beyond awful. The fit is so incredibly different between common items, the designs look horrible, and as stated on here by someone else, the best gear is only available to players and coaches.

"Them not being prepared for the championship run"? What, you mean after they were unprepared for Cam Ward's Heisman run? And after they were unprepared for our Final 4 run (handed out all-white generic crap to our players), just one year after our Elite 8 run?

Give me a break. adidas has been unprepared in, literally, every single year of the contract.

As for this myth about "Nike gave 2 ***** about this program", that is nonsense. It has been explained before, but I'll do it again. Beta Blake was converting things that Miami was SUPPOSED to get (redesigns, new merch, equipment) into straight cash payments so that he could make it look like we were making more revenue from Nike in the years that we were in the toliet (W-L records) in football/hoops/baseball.

Nobody is arguing about the bra-straps. That's on our AD. Nobody, not even Nike, can force us to wear a jersey redesign we don't like. Ask Mark Richt about the 2015 jersey and him forcing the 2016 redesign.

The Gators can't "block" Jordan. We aren't even in the same conference (back when Jordan tried to only do 1 school per conference BEFORE conference expansion).

honestly, its all trends too.

traditional unis were out then. as you can see with the new NBA designs for the next season, its coming back to the classic uniforms.

its all cyclical.

im sure nike would have released a more traditional uni for UM given the current trends.

We had their verbals before Nike paid more money for them to NOT attend Miami.
