New Locker room on the way.

Exactly, he lived the football player lifestyle - at the U. People associate him with Miami football.

That is literally my point. This school, and community, is part of his brand.

I think some people are mixing up which one came first, though. Not a criticism of you, just a comment on those who want to spend Dwayne's money.

Dwayne Johnson was not a starter at Miami. His fame came from wrestling. People associate him with wrestling. His most well-known name, "The Rock", comes from wrestling, not UM football.

And the only reason that ANYONE knows that Dwayne Johnson played at UM is because he is open about it. Not because anyone would have known about it otherwise.

Lex Luger also played football for the University of Miami, and nobody associates him with Miami football.

I'm just not sure how Dwayne's "brand" obligates him to contribute the money that internet posters say he should contribute. That's all I'm saying. And I do believe that Dan and Mario are two guys that Dwayne will feel more comfortable with, when it comes to the subject of donating money.

I'm fine with everything that Dwayne has done, monetarily and otherwise, to support and represent the University of Miami. If he feels like being even more generous in the future, I will welcome that as well.

And if u watch the UGA locker video, there’s a link to The NFL’s KC Chief unveiling their new locker room. Hence why I said in the facilities thread that even NFL teams r investing in their facilities. That wasn’t an opinion. Lol.

The game of football has changed; no longer are the days of some generic lockers, a table, and a laundry area going to suffice for prospects. Facilities matter & they attract. If they didn’t, it wouldn’t happen all over CFB. You can thank Oregon for all of this. Since Oregon didn’t have a blue blood tradition to rely upon, they started to attract young, impressionable kids w/ a grip of alternate uniforms & facilities. There’s a whole article of blue blood schools & NFL teams visiting Oregon’s campus to see the hype & all came away impressed & followed the blue print.

Sports is a copy cat league. We can’t rely upon the past anymore; it’s time to step in to the future, & we have the right leadership to move us in that direction. Love the renewed emphasis to bring The U to the 21st century of collegiate athletics.
Relly good post. Tell the **** truth Relly................. if those lockers were good, you would need double space in storage for all the shoes, and gear that you would haul in there.....you would be jumping up and down for more.
Also........... if SouthSidechi even walked in........... he would want a hot dog food insert in that leather for his Chicago dogs with mustard, and his drink......you know one of those flip downs, staining that beautiful hide with mustard grease....would be a definite no no....
We know Mario and our Big Dollar guys are going first class....With Dan's approval of course. Clemson has a locker room second to none also so we have the know how to do it right. Temporary lockers $2-$5 million should be classy, but the piece de resistance would be in our new Athletic Center in a few , that should be outstanding and awesome.
Miami ain't the old U....

This is all fair. And again I did mention he could be contributing behind the scenes to which I would never know and that would be awesome of him.

I’m totally fine with him contributing what he wants to, not that he’s looking for TC@neTC’s approval. I would expect of myself to contribute frequently if I were in his shoes, but obviously 1) I’m not in his shoes so who really knows until that’s actually you, and 2) to your point, there hasn’t been a lot of recent leadership to support financially.

Didn’t know a decent amount of posters felt so strongly about The Rock’s money and defending his right to not (publicly) donate lol, but alas.

I would just remind the world of this.

Multiple boosters sitting in Beta Blake's office asked him what his dream project would be, if he had a BLANK CHECK, and his confidence-crushing response was "locker room renovations and hire a couple more consultants".

THAT piece of crap has been our fund-raising "leader" for the past decade. Keep in mind, Dwayne/Dany's contribution to build that locker room in the first place was $2 million. So we had an AD who was hypothetically offered a BLANK CHECK, and he responded with a laundry list that would have cost $3 million. Maybe $4 million.

That's my point, that we should just let our football players give whatever they feel good about. I don't think they felt great over the past decade, at least in the sense of feeling that their donations would be well-spent.

I think a lot is changing now.

That locker room is slightly larger than a janitor's closet. If we're going to compete with other schools we'll need them to pave over the soccer field and build that sprawling new facility.

Start of the art locker room….we put the U on the ceiling.

I wonder when the planning on this started? Mario and Rad have only been here five months - is that sort of quick turnaround normal when funding is not an issue?

Couple of things.

I don't think the locker room renovations required much planning. No external building changes, just a couple of internal walls being moved around, plus "furniture". Easy peasy.

Also, the locker room was already on Beta Blake's "wish list". So he may have already raised some/all of the money. Now, were his dream board drawings given to the company hired to do the work? Probably not, I'd give more of the "aesthetic" credit to Dan/Mario at this point.

If you recall, it was Beta Blake who just started the "AD Society" organization, for the super-donors that he wanted to give extra access to. I'm not asking Dan to get rid of the AD Society, but I hope he brings some Clemson IPTAY-level rank-and-file focus to UM.
