Facing an environment of South Florida football that has high expectations and lives in historical suceess, who could be a successful coach at The U? Let’s take a look at all the prospects that are considered on this sight

#1 Butch Davis- Had a great short run in Miami, but the rest of his career is questionable at best. Great recruiter and has had some success at college level. Negatives, old, not a long term solution, and his resume is spotty ((UNC)

#2. Mike Leach- exciting and smart Offesive coach, but no titles, resume is average, average recruiter and no South Florida ties.

#3 Dino Babers. Doing a great job in Syracuse, but unsustainable. Again success in the MAC, but nothing great, recruitment (not enough data) no SF ties

4- Heupal- living off Frost’s success and waiting for the QB to leave before making an evaluation. Recruitment is better because of Shannon! System football and not sustainable

5- any other coach mentioned on this site has similar positives and negatives, but nothing that will revive The U!

I don’t have the answer, but the solution is not in recycling coaches or bringing coaches with limited success! But an Offensive Coordinator might make more sense

I don’t understand how no south Florida ties is a negative. What were Jimmy Johnson’s sfl ties, what were Urbana ties to Florida, Nick Saban ties to Louisiana at LSU or Alabama when he went there. Just a crazy prerequisite to me. I’m sure most major college coaches have recruited in south Florida at one point or another so there’s your south Florida ties.

These threads should all be merged. You’re just spinning your wheels. He’s getting 4 years no matter what.
Exactly, same thread every week, only difference is the OP.
We're not getting a new HC unless Richt decides to step down. Do I like it ? No, **** no, but no sense in being oblivious to the obvious.

Mike Leach has to be the most bizarre obsession I see on here. I will never get it.

This is his record by year at Washington State:

3-9
6-7
3-9
9-4
8-5
9-4
9-1

Put at asterik next to the season 99% of the people on here start calling for him to be fired.

Sign me up for Heupal and keep Manny

Just be honest, you want to keep Mark. You pretend to consider and then dismiss all other options. Mark already has several OCs so why offer that as an option?

You are right about Butch not being a long term solution but had we hired him instead of Mark, we would have a staff with future NFL HCs on it instead of Mark’s friends and relatives program, and at least two recruiting classes full nfl talent and probably 7 or 8 first round picks. His game day coaching is bad but I had no idea how horrible Mark’s is. How did he keep the UGA job so long? Oh, and Butch excelled at this thing called “player development”. We haven’t seen it in so long you might not know about it.

From preseason 8th to no bowl, if that doesn't warrant firing then what does? With a crap schedule no less.
Exactly. Our only two tough yearly games are usually FSU and VT and they both stink.

This is the most disappointing season I can remember.

We should have been able to steamroll this schedule

We need NEW blood. Later for hiring ex-Canes. Give me an accomplished coach that knows what he is doing and has a staff littered with Xs and os guys. That's what we NEED.

For the billionth time... Richt isn’t going anywhereeee. He won 10 games and the coastal last year and donated a mill to the ipf. You think one horrific year and he’s been gone? 3 losses next year and the heat will be unbearable and he’ll step down or be forced out . My prediction

Dude he is at Washington State.

He is basically averaging 9 wins a year there now that he has it rolling.

Washington state is a garbage program. So is Texas Tech. The guy takes non talented guys and wins. Now at a place at Miami he could win even more.

I agree he's an unrealistic choice but to put it in perspective -- this is WSU before Leach.

2011: 4-8
2010: 2-10
2009: 1-11
2008: 2-11

It needs to be someone who can recruit elite talent and has an excellent offensive scheme
