New Coach - Year 1

This is a good place to start.

I want to see a team that appears prepared for every game, win or lose.

I want to watch a play and think to myself "okay, that makes sense" even if it doesn't work or I don't agree with it.

I want to see defensive players set before the snap unless they're intentionally in motion.

I want to cut our penalties in half, specifically false starts, delay of game, and formation/procedural penalties.

I want to be less afraid of 3rd and 17 on defense than 3rd and 3.

I want to see us run the ball effectively and creatively.

I want to see touchdowns in the red zone more often than not.

On occasion, I want everyone in the stadium to know what play we're running and have it work anyway.

I want a moratorium on the word "swagger" until we win at least 10 games.

I want to see us win a bowl game.

A simple basic attacking defense that is NOT complicated and has limited numbers of plays and prepares each wk for the offense they are going up against

If my dream candidate got the job....it would all take care of itself and we'd be a top 15 team overnight.

If we're gonna dream, dream big. Root for the Eagles to lose EVERY ******* game the rest of this season. That's step 1 to the dream coming to fruition.

I think the biggest thing is to completely change the culture from thinking to doing.

Attack in all phases. Do not allow the other team to dictate the game.

No fear -- anybody anytime anywhere

Speed speed speed

Best players play more snaps -- let guys get a feel for the game & reward competition

Put players in position to succeed -- reward instinct and play to the strength of the roster

Concentrate on dominating the line of scrimmage on both sides. Let Dline get upfield. Get Oline blocking downhill.

Don't kill the joy. Let the big dogs hunt.

Great list.

I'd add I don't ever ever ever wanna lose to UVA, Duke, WF, UNC, USF, ever again. Blow out teams you're supposed to beat.

Imagine that your favorite coach (whoever that may be) has just been hired. What immediate steps must he take to get off on the right foot?

For me, they include (in no particular order):

- truly allowing the former players access to practice/games;
- a culture that isn't afraid to actually talk about winning games and championships (not "deserving victory");
- physicality to practices (return to making the preparation hard and the games easy).

Any thoughts?

Good list.

I'd replace the second bullet with just "win the coastal."

That's a solid, reasonable year 1 goal/necessity.

I'm tired of these blowhards running their mouths. I don't much care what they have to say.

1. announce he's building a fence around the State of Miami and recruit the **** out of the three counties plus Lee County.
2. implement an attacking defense that is geared to flowing to the ball.
3. Recruit speed at WR, RB, TE, S,CB & LB.
4. Keep Mullins, Allison, Bruce, McCloud, Quarterman in the class. Try to get Rasul back, get Jamel Cook, get good corners even if they are short.Recruit Patrick Bethel hard. Sign a TE like Nauta.
5. Keep Kevin Beard and maybe Larry Scott.
6. Change the S&C program. Swasey may be good but the U needs new blood.
7. Allow former players access so long as they aren't distracting.
8. Listen to Jimmy J. if he wants to talk.
9. Get a bubble built.
10. Find a freakin' bad *** DT.
11. Don't spend a lot of time in Jersey, pay attention to Texas again.
12. Push UM to get back into the Beckham stadium talks. Make this a priority.
13. Hire an innovative OC but not one who runs the spread option.
14. Hire a bad *** DC, maybe Butch.
15. Don't wear a tie on the sidelines.
16. Make reducing penalties a priority, not effort penalties but stupid OL penalties.
17. Develop an offensive package for Corn Elder.
18. Get rid of those uniforms.
19. Make sure the administration lets you squeeze 2-5 players in who might have iffy academics.
20. Make sure Julio Frenk knows how important football is to the UM brand.
21. Announce that nothing less than a 6th and 7th NC is your goal.
