When I look back at the 2020 class and if landing top SOFL recruits is a priority it's easy to see Eric Hickson did a great job with Chaney and Knighton who no one here though he was capable of. His connections and understanding SOFL IMO made this possible. I'll be one of the first to say Rumph missed too many top local DB's over the years (more of an UM issue than him IMO), but does the best job recovering with some really good DB's. This year is another example. This to me says we need, like so many SOFL insiders tells us, is we need guys who can recruit and relate to SOFL athletes because we can;t match the on field results and $$$ the Big Boys have.

Interesting theory.

If I’m understanding your point; It’s that we should hire a staff that can relate best to the primary recruiting base to give ourselves the best shot at landing recruits. Go all in the relationship model.

Not sure I have an opinion on how accurate it is. But it’s an interesting idea.

Sure because guys like Howard, Jimmy, and Butch could relate to the pork and beans projects of Miami.
wait what??!!! Those guys aren’t from down here!!
You mean jimmy didn’t live in an apartment just off of Granada ave back in 82 when dudes where shot almost at daily basis in the west side of the grove?!! Howard didn't have a house off of 22 ave and have a front row to the riots?!! Tell me it ain’t so Andrew!!

Hate to bring politics into it but I think relevant to topic. I recall reading an article about why blacks voted for Obama twice. Most admitted he did very little to improve their lot economically but voted for him regardless because they related to him, felt pride in a person of color achieving presidency, etc. And they probably would have voted for him a 3rd time if possible. Diversity for sake of diversity is short sighted. Get people who will actually improve things for players and increase their opportunities for success and not just there to fill some emotional vacuum.

Lol here come all the White "we don't need anymore blacks" people.

There are far more white assistants than black, yet year after year 50% or more of the top recruiters are black coaches.

maybe we could just focus on getting the best kids that love playing football. i don’t care where they are from. i’d like passionate kids that have enough self respect to never give up on themselves or their teammates. it’s really not that hard. i often wonder if we put as much thought into the offer for the mental side as we do the physical one. i think we all know we don’t for every offer. the LB from texas is exactly what we need 85 of. we don’t need 85 drama queens that quit because they don’t like their coach. fvck i can’t remember one coach that i ever loved. i played hard because i played hard. it wasn’t a thing....
