Nebraska vs. Illinois/Early Games Thread

Frost had a great thing going at UCF. Could’ve built a strong program. Goes to show you that following the money isn’t always the right decision. Frost will be fired in the months ahead…

he wasn’t just following the money - he followed his dream gig. I get it.

edit, holy ****, I just saw sitkowski led Illinois today and Hightower didn’t have a catch? Bizarro world.

Funny you say that... some of their fans want Monken from Army
That would be a good hire, in my opinion.

The dilemma, however, is you are signaling to your fan base that you don’t expect to compete for national titles anymore.

You become respectable by winning 7 or 8 games a year, with the possibility of winning 9 or 10 if the stars align, but that’s not what that fan base wants. Their expectations are high because of their history.

Gotta say Im happy for this Sitkowski kid.

I was always bothered by the way supposedly grown *** men on this site talked mad shiit about Sitkowski when he was failing at IMG and at other stops along the way. By all accounts he was just a kid trying his best. Im glad he got a highlight game to take with him in life after his football career is done.

I was one of those grown *** men, and I stand by my $h!t talking, no shame.

You must've forgot that He was talking mad $h!t about our QBs at the Spring Game, only to find out He had lousy, pathetic statistics in HS.

But I agree, good on Him for persevering.

Nebraska got hosed on two really bad calls that were game changing. An interception early when they were up a touchdown on got called back on a bogus roughing the passer which turned into a tying Illinois touchdown, and later on they had a long completion that might have set up another touchdown called back on a bogus offensive PI. Yes Scott Frost sucks, and he's a living example of a mediocre white dude failing upward with no end in sight, but I would be livid if I was in Nebraska fan. Thankfully I'm not.

People have to stop looking at a 2 year run as a career for a football coach. Your playing with someone else recruits. Scott never recruited the 5 year seniors at Central Florida that won him that NC run.

We see this problem at Houston also. Kevin Sumlin, Tom Herman, Major Applewhite. People looked at their first couple of years and determined they were great coaches. Kevin Sumlin again looked so good at A&M for the first 2 year then the Pro OL's left and the Pro WR's left and Johnny was product of both of that and Cleveland now understands that. The wheels fell off for both guys.

Football is about recruiting 20 young men who will build a program for 5 years. Not 5 guys who get ratings. Get a QB who is good but not your savior heisman winner. Develop OL's that work as a unit not spending time looking for that blindside Left Tackle.

Frost team are not detail oriented. Seen Martienez do the same dumb things time and again. The kid clearly does not fear for his job. Looking deep when guys are open down low for first downs.

Frost clearly does not work on special teams. Nearly every punt returner makes bad decisions inside the 10 every season. There are head coaches that work on these plays EVERY day and there are coaches who would rather get the exercise over with so we can get back to offense and defense. Frost clearly looks at the special teams as an exercise. You really do need to teach the kids the basics in college. People assume that great athletes know the ins and out of football. They do not. They need to be taught. People assume high school coaches teach the basics. MOST do not. Most just take their best athletes and let them out athlete the other teams high school athletes. TEACH your college kids the basics.

So many coaches look at the QB to get them the next contract instead of looking at the whole team.

In defense to this Husker staff they underestimated how bad the Nebraska program had gotten. The N was on the helmets but nothing resembled this program from pre 2002. The need to get 5th year guys is a must at a place like Nebraska. Frost sees himself as a west coast type of guy and will die first before being a running coach. He underestimated that kids would leave before being pushed hard. He picked the wrong kids and will always pick the wrong kids to push that need to develop over 4-5 year. Nebraska is not the place for a 3 and out kid. The atmosphere is too harsh for easy kids. Frost will never understand this because he himself left Stanford as a player before coming to Nebraska his last 2 year. Frost is a guy who wants the Stanford life with Nebraska 90's results.

Would y’all take frost as a OC? Cause we know he’s outta Nebraska soon. Is he burnt out or just Nebraska isn’t the place for him ?
Yes if Lashlee leaves.
Nothing is going to work at Nebraska outside a triple option type of offense. You aren’t going to pass at Nebraska. They’ve failed for twenty years. They don’t have the personnel

Nebraska. Defense and option football.

Bo Pellini has to be looking a lot better than he looked a few years ago

Illegal practices , at least the ncaa is worrying about the important stuff
Indeed. I expect a three year investigation with NCAA spec ops teams sweeping through the Cornhusker team facilities at night, gathering evidence. The likely punishment on the program will be severe.
