Navaughn Donaldson to Redshirt

I tried to tell people that there was no way in **** he was going to play this yr, and i'm glad that he's making the right decision for himself by redshirting. However people in this thread are assuming a lot by thinking it's a guarantee that he's going to start as s RS Sr in 21'. I just don't see it. After this yr people will see that Ousman Traore ends up being a better G than Navaughn ever was. The more likely scenario is that Navaughn transfers, and plays his last yr of eligibility somewhere else as a grad transfer. IMO

Wonder if he tries to get a couple games or maybe bowl game in later in year to get that confidence boost. Get some film, work on some things going into next season. Either way smart move

Good for him, come back strong in 2021

2020 OL -

LT - Campbell
LG - Scaife
C - Gaynor
RG - Clark or Rivers
RT - Williams

2021 OL -

LT - Campbell
LG - Scaife
C - Gaynor - Clark
RG - Donaldson or Rivers
RT - Rivers or Walker
I think Walker overtakes Campbell at some point and is the starter at LT, with Rivers at RT.

Hope he can stay motivated and hungry this year. If he does this right, he is setting himself for some serious success in his future.

This was probably a tough and painful decision for him so I commend him for it. I hope he kills it in 2021 and gets drafted early

Donaldson is the best guard on this team. Even with being overweight he still graded out better than every other o-linemen except scaife. If he gets that knee right and drops some weight he will be all acc and I would put money on him beating out any guard on this team

Apologies for what could be a dumb question, but isn’t there a risk he does this and then goes grad transfer route? Also, if he were healthy by year’s end, can he still play in up to 4 games and still shirt?
Yes, he could technically grad transfer but I don't know why he would. Unless this season is a train wreck and all teh coaches get fired. And yes, I believe he can still play in up to four games in 2020 without losing his redshirt.

Chop-Chop! Good god, man, I hadn't thought about that in decades. I lived on that sh-t at The U! That and some delivery place called Slice N Ice.

Great decision by Donaldson. I hope he uses this time to get himself back on track.

slice n ice deserves its own thread. They knocked that beautiful coral building down more than a decade ago and the grove will never be the same.

On the plus side, Paulo Luigi is right down the street from flanigans now and they make a solid pizza.

Yo.... It's something about THIS summer that just seems to be in favor of us. Idk man I'm trying to go into this season with no/low expectations but maaaaaaaaaan something special is definitely happening.

We talked about this months ago on the podcast. Pleasantly surprised he's doing it.

Very smart decision that can change the rest of his life. I hope Miami gives him all the resources he needs.

Kyle Bellamy and Coach Feeley are going to really earn their money this year working out Navaughn not to mention this could be the start of UM players thinnking long term by sticking around to develop through their senior year unless they are can't miss 1st /2nd round pick!

Go Canes

There's also a risk Bugs Bunny drops an anvil on his head from the top of a skyscraper. Sometimes, you have to do the right thing and hope things work out. That's what UM and Donaldson are doing here.
And imo if he chooses to transfer it’s because our OL looks good this year and he doesn’t believe he’s going to start next season.

He's a guard all the way, and now hopefully he has the time he needs to get in shape and reach his potential.

He can still appear in 4 games this year and keep his redshirt.....could provide us some depth down the stretch. This news is nothing but positive all the way around.

Interesting you say that- I feel the same.
I don’t think we end up having a 2020 CFB season (dear God I hope I am wrong) but that’ll actually benefit us. Manny and company have always been kings of the off season so this will only help us. It also prevents teams like Bama, UGA, Clemson, etc. from performing well on the field to attract recruits. I think some of these south Florida kids will stay home because of COVID as well as, not being able to take official visits to out of state schools. All of this benefits Miami. I want a 2020 season with King though. Who doesn’t...
