Navaughn Donaldson to Redshirt

He knows that Bama game is a BIG MONEY ticket for him...

if he dominates against that dline... his draft stock will climb on top of showing improved athleticism, injury free(knee), and show he put in the work to get his body right.

seen many a kid like ND get drafted day 1 or 2 based off one games performance on top of a late senior/junior year superstar performance

I remember about five years ago Colorado State had a kid named Quanterus Smith who wasn’t anything special but had three or four sacks vs Alabama and got drafted really just off the one performance.

Takes guts to sit a year out purely to improve yourself/recover.

We bash kids for jumping early, let’s not bash a kid for staying an additional year. Even if we all agree it’s what he needs to do.

Just because he's redshirting a year, doesn't mean he's staying another year. We just pulled two transfers who redshirted last season. Meanwhile, Scaife, Gaynor, Campbell, Nelson, Traore, Reed, Clark, Rivers, and Walker should all be back next season with more experience.

Glad he took the RS because it is ultimately in his best interest, either way. But I am not penciling him into next season's starting OL just yet.

Gaynor, Scaife, Donaldson, Walker, Rivers will be our O-line against bama in 2021 (you guys decide who plays where). What about Campbell though?
I like what your saying, but I don't see Rivers or Walker taking Campbells spot. Campbell will be a fully "grown *** man" next year looking to cement his place in the NFL draft. I think Campbell starts this year and next.

However, I do like the depth we'll bring to the table against Alabama on both sides of the trenches. Nelson and Clark will be wild cards. Clark could challenge for Gaynor's job next year. I think Clark as a true freshman played better than when Gaynor was a freshman. I think Clark has more upside because he's more athletic than Gaynor IMO.

We should be loaded at O-line next year with plenty of talent and experience.

Soo. He redshirts at 450lbs and we all think he will come back at 325 of twisted steel? Sounds great. It ain't gonna happen. Move on. If we can't find a better replacement then we are not ever going to challenge Clemson.
Donaldson wants to play in the NFL. It will be his last opportunity. I think he feels the urgency. He'll have his best season next year.

It literally happened last year with Becton. So yes it does sound great and it does happen.

He's unlikely to ever be his best at Tackle. The Trent Williams comparisons and early hype were off. He can make a real career at Guard, however. Hope he makes it happen. It'll benefit the program, him, and his family.
Redshirt at Oline should be the norm. Need menfolk in those positions. Our coaching and recruiting failures have too often resulted in trying to fill OT slots with really good OGs, leaving both position weak. If you are good in the middle you should use it for inside game instead of making it weak only to have a OG struggle at OT. Oline is very unit thing and needs stability.

I am missing the relevance with Becton... pretty sure he started games as a TF (and was a Freshman All-American), So, and JR (First Team All-ACC), then left early to the NFL. Never took a RS season. Didn't miss a year to recover from knee surgery.

Quick question what position did he play his Freshman year ? Because he was a beast idk what happen but man I thought he was on his way to really becoming something ..best of luck to this kid getting in game shape for next year

I'm still shocked that Campbell was moved back to tackle in the spring considering he lasted one game at RT, and it was the worst game a Miami RT has ever had. The dude has no bend whatsoever and cement poured inside his cleats. He looked really good at LG though.

Good for him. He made a really mature and smart decision. Now dedicate yourself to S&C abd given yourself the best change at a long successful career.
