Nate Webster layeth the smacketh down.....

Nate used to put people asleep via chokehold for fun in the locker room. Buddy had a few bolts loose but he was a badass. They didn’t call him Nasty Nate for nothing
Absolute Madman....Once those Pads went on....Jesus....

I agree that Dan, Ray, and Barrow We’re a level above, but I wouldn’t say any other guys were clearly better at the MLB spot. I’d say Vilma, Nate, Brophy, Clark, and Mira are pretty close in the next tier.
Brophy was the ONLY 1st team AA on the 1st NC team...he was better than Clark...Mira was a 1st team AA as well...with Clark as his backup...

Nate's recruiting tape from Canesport was unreal. Every hit at Northwestern was a jarring and you could tell he played with a certain type of violence

Was actually more productive than Morgan in 98 and 99, and made some second and third team All-American teams.

@dsddcane...I know Morgan is #1...but to say Nate was a distant whatever behind Barrow is Ludicrous....
No argument out of me. I'd say Mike was a lil more well rounded. But no one feared Mike. People knew all around the country Nate was gonna body you if you came with that bull****. I'd still say those 3 can be in that same argument and I wouldn't argue however it was numbered long as all 3 real close. DJ would have an issue with being ignored, so would Darrin.

Nate had that Rampage Jackson vibe to him. He is among the most violent hitters Ive ever seen. There are certain guys who just love to hit. Its what they were born to do. Certain guys in boxing, just love to fight/spar, reminded me of James Toney(who hated to train and do roadwork -- but could get out of bed and spar 15 round easy and enjoy it)

As for Darrin Smith, 'the Flash' is a personal favorite of mine. I think he's the most well-rounded OLB we've ever had. Guy was All-American in 91 and 92 (made various publications lists those seasons)

Going back to Nate, it's a shame that Michael Smith blew out his knee in the Penn St game 99. He, Nate and Morgan would've been a great trio eventually. Michael had NFL measurables and talent

More Productive than Morgan for 2 entire yrs??....But have people on here saying Nate is a Distant 3rd behind Barrow....Lol...you can't make this Sh*t up....People forget, Nate played on UM teams that were just starting to catch there breathe in regards to Depth...and the overall effects of the sanctions...If Nate would've been around a couple of yrs later...Im not so sure any of UMs LBers start over him, including Vilma.

Those 89/92 LBers (Who I Love) had the advantage of having arguably the 2 Best DLs in UM History....Go down that DL list and its an AA Line up from top to bottom..
Having DLs like those not only makes the LBers job alot easier...but the DBs as well.
Nate had some incredible DBs in 98 and 99...but his DLs weren't in the same Stratosphere as what Barrow..Armstead and Smith had...I think @dsddcane will concur with my statement.

Yeah anyone would agree with that. Our lines weren't slack either then but not same sphere. However that still doesn't change that narrative. At their cores regardless of other individuals I'd say the same thing I said before. For me the Bermuda triangle was by far our best unit ever all things considered. But we were right there behind them in the end of the Butch days. Just my opinion

I wholeheartedly agree...thats why I brought up the advantages those 89-92 LBers had....Nate...Morgan...Campbell and Rod Mack could've have come into a game in 89-91...and the Defense wouldn't skip a beat....ESPECIALLY in a Lubick type D....

Without reading all this it depends how you're talking about the three. If you mean overall obviously ray is #1 I'd say both y'all trippin to say anyone other than ray in front of dan for the second spot. #3 #4 #5 could go in any order from Nate to mike to jv. Just outside of that circle is Jesse. But sticking with just Nate or Mike. Nate is far more physical and a complete savage against the run and underneath. Mike was far better in coverage and was still more than capable underneath. John was a blend of both but nowhere near as physical as either.
When speaking of Micheal and Nate the league doesn’t lie because you get paid and one of those two had a 13 year career, led the NFC in tackles, made pro bowls started 153 games and had 771 solos. The other guy started 37 games and had 244 solos. Also I had the privilege of being pretty close to Micheal’s teams back then and after Big Russ left in 90 the DTs ok in 91&92 nothing special and after Rusty went down KP and Darin were the DEs. Sapp was being converted from TE saw very little PT. Mark Caeser, Lopez, Anthony Hamlet and PR got DT time. Now Ryan and Daryl were special. The guys knew Micheal ran the defense and Sonny gave him free reign. When Sonny Lubick calls you one of the best players he ever coached I’ll go with that call. Again, Nate was a very good player, Micheal was a special player and the total package at LB. Appreciate your views.

I also had the privilege of being even closer to Nates teams than you were with Mikes teams...Meaningless...only a fool would argue the points @dsddcane pointed out....
You said that Barrow was sooo much better in College...which is complete BS....Nobody said anything about the NFL until you...

As you can see...I knew Mike as well...

I thought he was a better LB than Morgan. Nate was one of my all-time favorite LBs here and one of my favorite rapists. He was truly a walking dichotomy as he played with extreme violence and raped with subtlety and a gentility not often seen.

I've never seen a faster guy on the field in orange and green. There might have been guys who tested faster, but that dude, on the field, was the fastest.

The images that I remember most were of the Dave Arnold "special" teams where we'd kick off with no plan whatsoever to stop the return, the return man would break free for what looked like a sure TD, and here comes Shipman from nowhere like a blur to walk the guy down like he was standing still.

@dsddcane has some "Classic" Froggy stories....Froggy took everyones $$$ while at UM...and yrs later, coming to Greentree....Hester...Kevin Williams...Santana...Didn't matter....he Smoked them in a 40...I think @dsddcane said he watched Froggy Smoke Hester and KW back to back...

It might sound crazy for me to say yes and no when it relates to the league doesn't lie. I was simply discussing them at um personally not nfl. Far as the league and just going off stats there's alot of contributing factors. Not as simple as stats. Systems you play in and line play in front of you is key. Besides the obvious nate played a decent amount of his time at Cincy who sucked before his stupid *** let all this nonsense happen that destroyed his life. I respect your opinion and I have no problem with it. I'll stick with what I know and that's what I said all along. Ray & Dan were far better than either. After that feel free to take your pick. Just realize theirs contributing factors your giving no credence to. That's like with Dan. You can say one thing then you turn around and mention stats as all that matters so you don't take into account his career ended far too early cause of soooooo many concussions.
