I fully expect to see another wacky bag of tricks from Dawson and the offense. Because, well, it’s working. For three straight weeks we’ve seen new formations with new plays and different motion combinations. Every week I laugh harder and harder at that nerd who signed up for CIS just to argue with every poster about how we only ran a handful of plays because those were the only plays we knew how to run.
We’re up against another NC State type of team. One that looks good against bad teams but terrible against decent ones. They have one win against a bowl eligible opponent and it was last week against the most overrated team in the P5, Georgia Tech. Their quarterback can simultaneously look awesome and terrible at the same time. He’s a gunslinger who’s turnover prone and can be baited into interceptions like Bailey at NCSU. They don’t run the ball well so if we can rattle the QB, we should be sitting pretty.
Defensively they’re statistically solid but similar to the offense, they look incredible against weaker teams and have struggled against the better offenses on their schedule. They nearly pulled a Guidry last week. After jumping out to a 28-0 lead they allowed Georgia Tech to get back to 35-28 before icing the game with a long touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.
The game is at Pitt and Miami strangely has had a lot of success there despite playing in quite a few late season, cold weather games. Notre Dame handled them fairly easily in their house and if anyone is used to playing in a half-full pro stadium, it’s our guys.
Comfortable win but not a blowout 31-17.
