My Thoughts

Milked the clock to punt the ball down by 8 points. That was the most alarming part of the game
He depended on the D to make a stop, WHICH THEY DID. Your point being? Trying for it on 4th and extra long, with this receiver corps would have been ball game, because any points allowed by the D on a COD is game over. Basically, he gambled on getting the ball back, and it worked out.

They didn’t want to be embarrassed by a way more talented squad. So people can’t say it’s the same ole Miami losing by 30. Mario knew he was out talented everyone with brains knew this.
Everyone with brains that was watching that game could see it was absolutely winnable and all that talent didn’t mean ****

Bama just had a Heisman qb, and a receiver before that. Bama has evolved to a pass first team.
Respectfully disagree. Bama and Jawga are power run teams who also have an exceptional pass first capability.

I believe this is what Mario is building towards.

This is going to be my attempt to provide a nuanced take to what we all witnessed tonight.

1) Gattis deserves some criticism for our red-zone offense, as some calls were simply bizarre, but I think he did an admirable job considering a myriad of glaring offensive weaknesses. See below:

— The WR room is a travesty. George has the most upside, but he lacks consistency. The rest of those players are simply not dependable.

— TVD is off. He looks like he’s seeing ghosts out there. You can’t constantly second guess yourself as a QB. If this continues, you have to roll Jake out there just to see if he can provide a spark.

2) It hasn’t been said enough so allow me to highlight something: our OL kicked *** tonight. The holding penalties in the 4th quarter sucked, but outside of that, they dominated a talented d-line. We pretty much did whatever we wanted offensively, until the inevitable collapses in the red zone. Run blocking and pass protection deserve an A+.

3) The defense was spectacular. Our defensive backs and d-line played great. Flagg was solid at LB and looked like a general back there. Yes, yes….his limited athleticism hurts us at times, but he makes up for it because he’s such a smart player.

4) Special teams cost us the game. The muffed punt was a killer and obviously the field goal situation didn’t help matters. You simply cannot go on the road against a premier SEC team and gift them points — simple as that.

5) Mario was too conservative at times. We had nothing to lose; however, it didn’t seem like we played that way. I was disappointed to see the lack of urgency in the 4th quarter, too. We can’t afford to use the entire play clock before every snap when we’re playing from behind.

Overall: I’m ****ed because we should have won that game, but I don’t understand a lot of the doom and gloom posts on here. We need to execute better — period. And it’s now gut-check time for TVD. Let’s see how he responds, but I would tell Jake that he needs to be ready to go at all times.

I’m as hurt as anyone with our offensive woes & passing game execution.

One detail that is worth noting in passing ( no pun intended ), TVD throws a very difficult ball to receive by most. He throws like a third baseman from a 3/4 arms slot with a slight to heavy wobble. This creates a situation where extra concentration is required or mistakes will & often do happen.

Jake G is a more traditional pocket passer that spins a tighter ball with enough but not too pepper on it.

Not an excuse in the least, as kids need to catch the **** ball period, but often little details like this can make a major difference all things being equal.

Bama sets the run up with the pass now. That’s a pass first team. They’re less physical than past years because of it but you have to give up a little. Their qb’s are putting up air raid numbers the last 4-5 years. Just like Saban changed his defense to more of a hybrid , getting smaller and having situational personnel. He evolved on offense and defense to step into this century.

They‘re still a physical team and can always fall back on the run , but let’s not get it twisted. Their qb’s are leading that show now.

I noticed that, too. I’m not sure if it’s a mechanics issue or what. Maybe some QB guru on the board can clarify.

I think we are saying the same thing to a degree, but perhaps look at the same offense from different perspectives.

I'm encouraged to see what Mario and staff do the rest of this season and next. Y3 I have even greater expectations.

Just felt like their season was on the line and ours wasn’t and they had to have it and they played like it. Our guys played tough but I mean TS8 really made a stupid ******* play and that was the difference

That was a huge play, no doubt. But it was the first quarter of a game that was tight for 4 quarters. M

We had a zillion opportunities after the muff over the course of hours of football and took advantage of exactly none of them.

I didn't entertain that "Mario is the reason Herbert was so limited at Oregon" talk until last night. It can work in theory but that methodology on offense isn't good for TVD, or any QB, if you don't have Bama or UGA's talent like @Empirical Cane said on the last page. Georgia did an end-around with a TE and it worked LOL! Tailor the offense to what your best talent does best.

It seems so simple too. Everywhere I go we can run the ball but I can never get the most out of my QB, maybe I should offer Lebby or Briles another mil so I don't have to worry about that? Those guys never have the best talent but their offenses are always great. Nah, I want to imitate what Bama does to a T without Bama talent so let's hire another Sa-bro.
Except this isn’t what Bama has done since the season before Kiffin went there. I’ve said this on repeat. The majority of guys off the Saban tree learn the structure, the program, the details, but they absolutely miss the adaptability. It probably kills him to win a game 45-42 or something. His dream games were those LSU ones back in 2011 or 2012. But he put winning over his idealism and ego. Hopefully Mario does the same.

Gattis/Ponce took the best passing game we've had in while, and threw it in the trash. And our special teams are back to being 'special'... we can't have nice things.

Lol we outgained them in every category. Please stop with this nonsense. Mario was conservative and it cost us.

Bruh other coached cane teams would of collapsed vs talent like that after the muffed punt. Proud of the guys I expected a loss but they competed vs a team with a loaded roster. Last year we lose this game by a lot.

I'm going to say bull**** to that moral victory crap.

Do you know why those teams used to collapse? They had been there before and they kept seeing the same **** done while having a lack of leadership from above.

I don't know what changed last year with Manny's team mid to late, but they kept playing while under him before they'd collapse. They started buying in or something changed and er all saw it. They competed four quarters.

You're going to see that eventually with this staff if we keep playing this way. We didn't play to win as evidenced by going for 3. We didn't even attempt passes into the endzone while we were close, it was a joke.

Nothing they did inspired confidence yesterday. That wasn't a loaded roster right now, it will be in years to come, but it was still young and green, even depleted.

You're a good poster, call it fair, but you're trying to pull the wool over your eyes on this one. Trying to rationalize uninspiring play, mostly on offense, that we've seen so far this year.

Last year's team mid to late would've won this game. That doesn't mean they were a better team, but they played to win. We didn't do that, I'm not sure what the plan was. Play it close, trust the process, and don't get blown out? A&M won't be blowing anyone out. We played their game, not ours and that's a problem from above.

My point being we needed the time on our drive, genius. We just let extra time tick off the clock. Get to the line and punt it immediately
