My Take After 7 Games

We are average.. We have a long way to go... I'm confident we will get better. There is a serious conflict of interest with the offense our staff wants to run and the personnel we have to execute it. Our defense is ok...probably 10 times better than what we have had in the last few years but still just ok. My expectations are unrealistically high.. I need to adjust and place emphasis on improvements. It is easier said than done and extremely frustrating to take that approach. I would like to see our O be more aggressive... Play like its 5 minutes in the game and we are down by 14. I would like to see our D stop giving up 3rd and longs and stop missing tackles. Again I'm confident we have the right staff in place and this thing will straighten itself out...God grant me the patience to endure...before all my hair is as white as Sebastian's feathers

Do you feel comfortable expounding on the conflict of interest on the offense? Are they looking for a more dual threat QB? Upgrades at RB & the obvious, along the OLine?

I think yes... RPO is most effective with a Dual Threat.. The conflict in my opinion is simple get a new block or find a new hole...Call plays that put Kayaa in the best situation...choice one. Or give Malek a shot and see if his legs make a difference...choice two...unfortunately practice will not provide a realistic picture.. only game time experience will provide a true test

That's what I said in an earlier thread and was voted down by many.
Thank you for the insight and congrats on your boy progress.

Sure...lol he turns 19 in a couple of weeks and he is the old guy in our LB Trio

This true freshman class (especially the trio) makes watching Miami lose a little easier...

What a special group. So much fun to watch.

Joe Jackson is a freakshow.

Lu I'm going to be honest. Joe had pedestrian stat n Gulliver was pretty much sorry last yr although they had 6-7 div 1 recruits, so I was expecting Joe to be a guy that even though he was coming in at 6'4-6'5 245-250 to be a redshirt kid. Boy was I wrong ..even without injuries or with Aqm still here he still would be stealing reps. I've seen that kid straight beast tackles. Kid has crazy athleticism cause I guarantee he could eat mins at TE right now too and we would think it was Njoku or Herndon out there..him and the 3 Amigo's will be scary the next two years ..Scary.

the vision and anticipation your son showed on that reverse was impressive, ESPN guys were raving about him
Yes he is doing good... but i think he could do better he is responsible for some of the missed tackles i mentioned...that brace has his left hand about 2 inches shorter ...but like i told him after the game last night ... that is still is no excuse. Can't remember but VaTech's or UNC MLB was wearing the same contraption... Don't get me wrong i can't express with words of how proud of him... i promised we will talk about the good times a little now..but will focus on what need to be fixed now...and when he hang up the cleats we will have a nothing but a good thing party from Pop Warner to Canton

PLEASE post more. You are one of the top 2-3 posters on this site (Lu and Hurricanevision)...and its a pleasant escape from the constant b1tching and whining or name-calling that goes on. I appreciate your insights and hope that we can get more of them.

And of course your son is amazing. Its like I'm watching a family member out there on gamedays to be honest. I tell my buddies "I told yall bout 55 in the offseason"!

Friend informed me that a member of his family has a cousin playing for the U now. The offensive line want big Gus in there to hammer away as he is a punisher and wears down defenses and can break tackles. He is not being used as the RB coach said he does not know the pass protection package fully. If true this is crazy. If he is in there to run what difference does pass protecting scheme have to do with pounding he ball.

You lost me at "big Gus" and "hammer away as he is a punisher". What a joke. Sounds like some dude's nickname and slogan for his 4 inch ****...

We are trying to push guys on the LOS with this bunch.....think about that.....let that sink in. We got to flush out this weakness

Can JA move at all? If he can't than Id imagine he will be leaving if we are moving to more of a spread offense.

Saw him TOSS Tre Johnson during a fall scrimmage and was like, wait, "who was that?" Then saw him change direction and chase down a play in the flats. Combine his raw ability with Coach Kul. It's nasty. My dad said Aldon Smith. I think that's a little much, but we'll see. The lateral ability and the bend are both similar.

Any word on Jenkins injury?
Sorry I didn't want to start a new thread?
Very Impressed with the LB play..
Injuries took away a lot of depth last game..

Shaq is doing a good job on the field but an even greater job as a leader. I love watching the kid play and love that he does shoot his mouth. Some of the other guys talk way too much and quite honestly aren't as good yet as they think they are. A little humility goes a long way in life. Shaq plays nasty and clearly brings 'tude, but he is respectful and lets his play do the talking.
He will have his work cut out for him this week as that ND O-Line, although overrated as a Unit has two of the best lineman in the country on their left side. LG, Quenton Nelson may be the best guard in the country and is massive. I am sure Shaq will be pumped up.

In regards to your take on the season through 7 games, I agree with most of it. Although the offensive personnel may seem to contradict the system, I still feel we can be much more effective with some better blocking and guys holding the blocks longer. I DO NOT agree with anyone putting down Kaaya. His is simply a pro style QB and for that style to work, the play action has to be more effective and we have to be more consistent in the run game. I would actually love to see Gus Edwards get some touches.

Go Canes!

"Hammer away" and "Punisher" sounds like some porno for the OL

I think we are all shocked at what JJ is doing so early. By years end if ESPN did one of those "Redo the 2016 recruiting class" segments for this class he would be a top 2-3 DE in the country easily.

But then again, Kool said he had 1st round draft pick written all over him so we should have known. Kool doesnt throw those words around often I bet. Will be a pleasure watching him the next 2 seasons.
