Offense:
N'Kosi Perry - 13/32 204yds 4TD's
Travis Homer - 21att 70yds, 1rec 7yds
Deejay Dallas - 10att 31yds
Jeff Thomas - 3rec 76yds 1TD
Lawrence Cager - 3rec 33yds
Brevin Jordan - 2rec 51yds 1TD
Trayone Gray - 3att 9yds, 1rec 12yds
Darrell Langham - 1rec 9yds
Dee Wiggins - 1rec 9yds
Brian Hightower - 1rec 7yds
Offense gained 306yds, 21 1st downs, 5/18 on 3rd down & 3/4 on 4th down with 34:31 in time of possesion to FSU's 25:29.
I foolishly thought we would blow them out, I'll hold my L on that. I thought given how bad FSU has been we could catch them early & get a KO, but I was wrong, shoulda listened to y'all never underestimate the rivalry lol.
Perry had some inaccurate throws, but made some very clutch throws as well that 3rd down to JT4 in between 2 defenders was a great throw & great catch by JT. Then the way he looked off the Deep single high Safety on the TD to Brevin to throw a straight dime was a thing of beauty. That's a veteran upperclassmen type throw & he executed it perfectly.
Homer had some real tough runs, especially when he ran over Westbrook, he's a great workhorse back & makes big plays for us despite not always having the best running lanes to go through.
Deejay & JT both had some big time clutch Punt Returns for us in the 4th quarter, those 2 guys have been 2 of our best playmakers this year on both Offense & ST's.
CHOCCCCCC!!! S/O to Choc Gray he came through with some great crutch time runs on that last drive. I was skeptical of how much a FB would even matter to our offense this season, but I'm glad he's finally found his place & is contributing in his final season.
Too many drops by WR's, Cager should've absolutely caught that pass down in the red zone with 5min left, if he catches that ball we score a TD on that play. I kinda wish we woulda ran that slant route with JT4. But otherwise, Cager had a nice game, thank god he held onto on that 4th down fade, he made the play when we needed him to & got his 2TD's
OL had issues dealing with FSU's pressure, St. Louis got beat a bunch of times, particularly on that sack fumble, however I'm not sure what else could be done on that play. Perry has a bit of an elongated release so sometimes that kind of play is going to happen. Don't think it's a major problem, just have to block better & get rid of the ball quicker.
Offense struggled with consistency but did what they had to do when it counted. 28 unanswered points, can't ask for much better than that. Our passing game seems to still be boom or bust, but in a tough game like this, I'll take it.
Defense:
- Jaquan Johnson 10tcks
- Jonathan Garvin 5tcks 2sacks, 2TFL's
- Gerald Willis 5tcks 2TFL's, 1FR
- Michael Pinckney 5tcks 1TFL, 1INT, 1PD
- Joseph Jackson 4tcks 2.5TFL's 2sacks
- Sheldrick Redwine 4tcks 1sack 1TFL
- Mike Smith 3tcks 1TFL
- Shaquille Quarterman 3tcks
- Pat Bethel 2tcks 1sack 1TFL
- Amari Carter 2tcks 1TFL
Defense held FSU to just 200yds total 130yds passing & 70yds rushing, while also forcing 3 turnovers (yeah I'm counting the FF by JJack that got overturned) with 12 TFL's & 6 sacks.
Now normally most of us (myself included) would be bhitchin about Diaz, but I honestly can't be too hard on them after this game. Of course had a some lapses in pass coverage like we usually do, but to hold this team to just 70yds rushing is a great testament to how big of a factor that Coach Jess has been to this Defense.
The DL's put this **** game on their back & hauled us into the comeback. Willis, JJack & Garvin have been playing like absolute monsters all season! Those 3 have been killing it bringing pressure & getting timely TFL's/Sacks when it matters the most. All they do is hunt, seek & destroy! They have been the MVP's thus far on Defense.
PINCKNEY!!! Pinckney was made for these big moments, not only the great INT, but also had a great PD on a 3rd long that if he doesn't get his hand & cause the deflection would be a long completion & FSU continues driving.
Mike Jack played his best game all season, completely locked his side down in the 2nd half.
There were some real bogus penalties & non calls by this Referee crew. They got away with a horse collar tackle on Deejay that wasn't called, Homer 100% caught that pass that was ruled an incomplete, the Cager catch, there were multiple holds that didn't get called & even on the unsportsmanlike against our bench when JT got face masked, there should've been a taunting penalty on one of those FSU players (I forgot which #) who was standing over JT & talking sh*t to him while he was laying on the ground. ACC refs are complete garbage, I would rather have every game officiated by Pac-12 or a Big XII crew for the rest of the season than another game with these fckin hack job bum *** refs.
Overall, this was another classic rivalry game, it was looking grim for most of them game, but we pulled it out when it was time to get it done. Perry had some really nice throws in crunch time. If he don't do nothing else in his career (which I believe he will), the fact he helped lead a comeback down by 20 late in the 3rd quarter places him in Canes history.
As a Red Frosh making his 2nd full time start, he didn't panic, didn't fold up & start making errant throws, he remained calm & poise and just kept with the game plan. He deserves major credit for that, most young QB's woulda hyperventilated & started throwing picks left & right, but he held it down.
Nothing but respect to Richt for making the right decision sticking with the kid, Perry is developing right in front of our eyes & still has yet to scratch the surface to how good he can be down the stretch.
Great comeback victory for the Canes! F*CK FSU!!! TAKE THAT WEAK *** KNOCK OFF PURSE BACK TO THE TRAILERHASSE GOODWILL WHERE YOU FOUND IT!
