Offense:
N'Kosi Perry - 8/12 125yds 66%cmp 1TD 1INT 1Fum 6att 26yds
Deejay Dallas - 11att 114yds 1TD
Travis Homer - 14att 88yds
Mike Harley - 2rec 70yds
Darrell Langham - 3rec 33yds 1TD
Brian Hightower - 1rec 13yds
Choc Gray - 2att 3yds 1TD

Offense gained 354yds total 229yds rushing at 6.7ypc as a team & going 3/6 on 3rd down.

Homer & Deejay had some great runs, they put the offense on their back, ran tough & made big plays. That was a great cutback by Homer on the 56yd run & Deejay had some real nice ones all night as well. I really love how we run blocked this game, after last year only rushing for 59yds we absolutely made it point to pound the rock against this weak run Defense & we did.

Perry started off hot again with some really nice throws especially the comeback route to Hightower. The degree of difficulty & ability to execute the intermediate passing game is what is what sets him apart. His continuity with Harley is already paying off, once he gets in sync with JT4 this passing attack will be deadly. Couple of great throws to Langham & a nice TD too.

**** of a throw to Harley, he threw that thing on a rope, on the run while rolling to his left, (once again degree of difficulty). He could've easily went with the check down to Brevin (which was his 1st read), or he could've just ran it for a short gain, but he made a great read & put it in the money to Harley who also made a fantastic catch.

We need to implement some outside Zone Read Option runs with Perry, he doesn't run well within the tackles, get him on the outside with a possible RB to pitch it to in order to freeze that LB & he'll break a few for a big gain. But, even in HS he was never really a runner, his Senior year he rushed for less than 200yds the whole season.

A few teachable moments; On the sack fumble, if he would've gotten it to Homer out of the backfield it would've been a great play on his part. Obviously, it's Perry's 1st start in ACC play & 3rd game total of his career, it'll probably take him some time to recognize as much time in the pocket as you had vs Savannah St & FIU you won't have vs ACC lineman. He'll get that down.

On the INT, very similar situation to last week vs FIU, got too greedy & made an ill-advised throw. He does very well on the quick reads, but one thing he needs to work on is not forcing passes. As DC's get more tape on him they'll start baiting him with those Safety's on the back end. He's still learning how to read Defenses, but he has to drill it in his head, don't fall for the trap... There's always a Safety lurking.

Other than that, the kid has been a great upgrade, when he's in rhythm he's throwing strikes all over the field & his accuracy really opens up the run game allowing us to have that balanced attack to put up scores while sustaining long drives keeping our Defense off the field. We're a much more efficient offense with Perry. Once he gets synchronized on the Deep ball, he'll be carving teams up down the field.

Defense:
- Joseph Jackson 5tcks 1INT 1TD 2FF's 1sack 1TFL
- Zach McCloud 8tcks 2TFL's
- Sheldrick Redwine 7tcks
- Trajan Bandy 6tcks 1.5TFL
- Shaquille Quarterman 5tcks 2sacks 3TFL's 1FF
- Michael Jackson 5tcks 1PD
- Mike Smith 4tcks 2.5TFL's
- Jonathan Garvin 2tcka 2FR's 1TD
- Gerald Willis 4tcks 1TFL
- Michael Pinckney 4tcks
- Amari Carter 3tcks
- Tito Odenigbo 3tcks 1TFL
- Romeo Finley 1INT 1TD
- Jhavonte Dean 1INT

10TFL's in the 1st half 14 total on the game, 3 sacks, 3 Defensive TD's & forced 6 turnovers! DOMINANT performance by the Defense! Held UNC's 2 bum lefty QB's to just 114yds total passing. Nathan Elliott was 16/25 105yds 0TD's 1Fum & Chazz Sewer Rat was 4/10 10yds 3INT's all 3 for TD's.

Our Run Defense still struggles, gave up 89yds in the 1st quarter, over 100yds in the 1st half & 215yds total. Michael Carter & Sewer Rat had too many runs for big gains in the 1st quarter. That's something we really need to get fixed as we roll through ACC play, because a few offenses we face down the line (UVA in particular) will give us a real problem with those QB runs.

Other than that, Defense did a phenomenal job putting heavy pressure on UNC. Coach Simpson has done a great job coaching the DL's up. Thus far, he's been a great addition to the staff & has made us more attack prone than we were with Kool.

That was a great hit by Shaq, & props to Garvin on scoop & score!
On the first run after the we scored the TD with Garvin that was a clear hold on Patchan that didn't get called.
Complete bullsh*t penalty on Willis after getting stop on 3rd down.

Really hope Shaq is healthy, he's the most important player on this Defense as the Mike LB, he cleans up so many plays & is the captain of this Defense alongside JaQuan. He's a tough kid & great leader, he runs this Defense, we need him on the field. Speedy recovery for Shaq!

JJack with the pick 6! JJack played like an absolute monster! He was unblockable & put up a Khalil Mack type performance. Keep in my mind, he's playing hurt with a messed arm & is still killing it.

S/O mi bredren Mike Smith! LION PAW! He played a great game coming off the bench. Zach McCloud played well this game too, he made some nice tackles & has stepped up his play from last year.

Great pick 6 by Rome Finley! He's come along real well this year in his new found role. I'm glad he's being utilized properly.

Please for the love of God, no more Bobby Knowles. I'll pay whatever it costs to get him off the field. He should NOT be playing significant snaps in any game, only Special teams. Just give his snaps to Gurvan Hall or Derrick Smith, D Smith doesn't even really play Striker for us, Finley does. Amari Carter played great in the 1st half idk why Diaz took him off the field for so many plays in the 3rd quarter. I understand he's a vet but got **** man smh lol.

Mike Jack doesn't seem to be playing as he did last year. I know after the FIU game he was graded really high, but so far I don't see him breaking on routes this season. It looks like he's just not going to get beat deep, but is allowing everything underneath. Not saying he's bad, made a nice PD on one play, just saying I think he can be better than he's been & yes I know he's been pretty good.

S/O to Jhavonte Dean on the pick, I doubted him all offseason & felt that we should be playing one of the 3 TF's ahead of him, but clearly I was wrong & will hold my L on that. He's played pretty well thus far with 2 picks on the season & has had multiple opportunities for more.

My predictions for the game was Miami wins 37-16 rushing for over 150yds, passing for 260 & on Defense getting 4 sacks 8TFL's & 2INT's. We scored 33 in the 1st HALF! 21 points from the Defense & an incredibly effective rushing Offense.

I gotta give major props to Coach Richt on going with the QB change, I honestly didn't think we would see much of the backup QB's this year aside from garbage time in a few games, but he made the right decision in going with Perry. His arm talent is just so much better than Rosier's it increases the efficiency of the Offense sevenfold.

Don't wanna get too ahead of myself because even with how good Perry has played thus far, he's bound to make more mistakes & have a down game some time this season. However, his ceiling is much higher & so is his floor. So when Perry does eventually have a bad game, I doubt it'll be 42%cmp bad. Just needs to work on protecting the ball more.

Also really happy to see Captain Jack Spicer (don't know if that's his nickname or not, but it is now lol) get the shot to be the new Punter. Not going to beat a dead horse with Feagles we know how bad it's been, just good to see this staff isn't forced to play him due to lack of depth.

Can't wait for FSU! We haven't blown them out since 01 & I sense this game is the perfect time to do it. Those weak *** batty boy dancy man dem are not ready for War! I say we beat them into submission & force them to quit early, so we can run the clock out in the 4th quarter!

CRUSH FSU! GO CANES!

Great write up, Liberty.

I disagree about the FSU game being a blow out.

Coach Willie Taggart is an elite schematic mind and he will certainly have those boys ready to go.

I’m predicting a dogfight.

Nah, I think we steamroll'em.

FSU has an even worse OL than UNC & I don't see how they can stop JJack, Garvin & Willis.

On Offense, your description of Taggart as an elite schematic mind is hilarious even though I know that's apart of your shtick. They don't have any WR's worth a **** & their only offensive weapon is Cam Akers.

I think they'll come to the Rock expecting the typical rivalry game & run smack dab into a buzzsaw. I think we beat them handily.

Nah we won't blowout FSU. If FSU couldn't blow us out when we had Wefense then I don't expect us to blow them out when they have Awfense. That's just how this rivalry is although I'd love to see us smack them w/ a Perry coming out party.

Another well written and in depth post @Liberty City El

One thing I noticed being at the game, is Michael Jackson’s ability to support the run defense. I noticed a couple times where he was very successful fighting off blocks and making tackles either for short gains or losses on running plays. I think this is a skill that he has that is rarely discussed.

He wasn’t perfect, there was one play where he got beat for about 18 yard sideline out, where he could’ve played the ball better and prevented the reception. But he seemed content to lay back and keep it in front of him. I don’t know maybe that was a strategy.

But overall, he seems like more of a complete defensive back this year, especially in run support.

Great write up! Nothing like giving out a huge beat down on national TV. But especially to UNC. That team has been so disrespectful towards the U over the years. It’s crazy .

Its great to be back to stomping fools out and restoring order. This teams confidence gotta be so high right now.

You're right he was definitely better in run support, I just would like to see him a bit more aggressive in coverage as the season progresses.

That's all, not trying to bash him or anything like that.

Man yall scared of FSU lol.

Just go rewatch the Va Tech & Cuse games, this isn't the FSU teams of old, this team quits & has a locker room full of selfish players that haven't bought into Taggart at all.

Idc what yall say we rollin'em up! They gone dance they asses all the way back to trailerhasse after we whoop'em for 4 quarters. No doubt in my mind!

No, I sorta agree. The one play that stuck out to me on pass coverage is the one where had laid back on a playable ball - I felt he could have been way more aggressive. Who knows though at that point they may have been told to keep everything in front of them.

You have to give me the benefit of the doubt, being at the game, I don’t have the luxury of pausing and rewinding - I’m at the mercy of whatever they decide to replay on the big boards.

I did DVR the game. At some point this weekend I’ll re-watch it and get a better feel for how we actually played the entire game. I generally have my eyes on the QB 1st unless I’m focusing on a specific player, so it’s sometimes hard to see the entire field all at once.

Mike jack is being asked to take every teams best wr and put them on an island. He gets little to no help all game so we can double deans guy. MJ can't bite on a back shoulder move or he'll get smoked deep on a double move.

You make a good point. That’s always the risk you take. I’m not even sure that the receiver could have gotten free behind him in the specific play I was talking about. But you know what, sometimes plays look different in the DVR when I slow things down, and I haven’t done that yet. So I’ll probably watch the game this weekend and focus on certain players/ plays.

"Dallas - 11att 114yds 1TD "
Can find an opening and accelerate through it as good as anyone.

When you can rush like Miami did it makes play action passes a real threat.

Excellent write up. I love the identity of this team right now.

We are using our RB’s well to keep the pressure off Perry and letting him grow into the speed of the game.

I’d add that once again I think Bandy brought a ton of energy to the defense. He was talking smack all game and backed it up. There was one play he literally jawed the WR on the line, broke off of him and hit the other player for maybe 1 yard gain.

For too many years I watched us make a big bomb plays on offense (running or passing) every once in awhile - but the defense was constantly giving up tons of yardage and our 3rd downs on both sides of the ball were horrendous. It was like our offense was going off the field too quickly good or bad.

Now our 3rd downs on both sides look really good - our defense is elite and we have the ability to grind the ball on offense and burn the clock when needed.

It’s a great time for the []_[]

Rosier ain't coming back fam... Unless Perry gets hurt or just completely sh*ts the bed, Toledo is the last we'll see of him taking significant snaps.

I said a few weeks ago that whoever started the UNC game would certainly be the starter vs FSU and most likely the rest of the season. Tonight was a firm declaration by Richt as to the present and future of the QB position. There will be bumps in the road and growing pains but it just seems like he has a higher ceiling than Rosier

Honestly, figuring out which combination constitutes Miami's best Oline unit is a bigger concern to me, right now
