My pipe dream is Urban Meyer has enough fake heart attacks to bring him to Coral Gables, where he announces the year round sunshine cleared it up and he’s our new coach.
Giving Diaz way too much credit. His defense would get destroyed if we ever had to play a top ranked offense. It works against these weak , non offensive teams we play
Ya know what... I’d be all for manny taking the HC spot. The man understands the importance of scheme, which already makes him better than our last 3 HCs. The man understands the culture of the U, which also makes him better than the last 3. He has picked good assistants.Absolutely horrific stupid idea.
He came up with the turnover chain so he should be head coach????
Do you realize how naive you are about what goes into putting together an elite football program?
I think Manny's done a commendable job, but unfortunately it's time for a house cleaning. Whole **** staff needs to go, I would be willing to keep Dugans as WR coach.
you're insane
diaz is fine

Think of all of the positive stuff we've had happen over the past 3 years...the chain is part of that, and was Manny's idea. I'm not saying hire him based solely on the chain - that's ignorant, and it's not the full context of what I posted. The defensive style/mentality he's brought has been the biggest positive change since we brought Richt in...and that's due to Manny having full say over that side of the ball. I think the failures of this regime have been largely on offense/special teams, and Manny doesn't have much if anything to do with either of those things.
Think of it this way - if we lose Manny to either a HC job elsewhere or due to a regime change...who do we replace him with to get the same statistical results (read: top 5 defense statistically by year 3)? I'm not sure there's a good answer that we could all be happy with when it comes to that. So...I think trying to keep him is a viable thing. Is hiring him as HC a viable thing? Almost 100% likely, it isn't...and I acknowledged that it's a far-out thought.
...and let me expand that line of thought. We might be facing an off-season where we have to 1) rely on Richt to make major changes to make us even show a pulse offensively again, or 2) rely on Richt to bring in a new OC and give them autonomy over that side of the ball, and/or 3) replace Manny and most of the defensive staff because he takes another job. That's cataclysmic stuff, and I don't think any of us believe in Richt enough right now to get those things right. I know I don't.
Mark Stoops should be our next head coach.
Go Canes!
Richt needs an OC, New Oline coach and to keep Diaz period.
Was he one of our former DB coaches??
1) Richt retires, takes either no buyout or only a partial one, saves us money.
2) We retain Manny either as DC or promote him to HC to keep him...he's going to get HC offers, and just about everything good we've seen the past 3 years has been predicated off of his ideas and defense. Think about it - turnover chain was his idea, we have a top 3 defense statistically, the guys playing with the most passion are on his side of the ball, he's the polar opposite of Richt personality-wise - fiery and passionate. He's had the most success at Miami out of all of his coaching stops...he's got the right mentality to coach here.
Yes - I know he has zero HC experience, but that might be the only way we keep him this offseason, because it's almost a sure thing that people will come calling with HC jobs for him to interview for. Even if we hire another HC, I think we ought to find a guy that wants to keep Manny as DC.
3) Assuming we follow through with the above, give either Manny or the next guy enough money to hire a guy like Manny on the offensive side of the ball. Someone who can do like Manny did - get hired as OC, bring in his own guys as assistants with the option to retain any of the current guys if they want.
Does this mean Briles/Yost/Dorsey/someone else? No idea. I just feel that if we gave Manny or the next HC that directive, they would find us someone that could be dangerous and innovative on that side of the ball. Manny for sure would not encumbered by the ego/hangups that Richt has offensively - Manny would want an offense that will put up points just as well as his defense keeps them off the board, period.
- So...yes, I know this is a pipedream, thus the thread name. That being said, it isn't realistic. Richt won't retire of his own volition, he'd have to be forced out or fired. He wouldn't leave money on the table to help us for the next staff either - so a reduced/no buyout wouldn't happen. Hiring Manny would probably have most of the fanbase up in arms because of his lack of HC experience. Also - it's not like we could dictate to the next HC that they'd have to keep Manny. I know all of these things are next to impossible. Too many variables that would have to fall exactly the right way.
A man can dream, though...especially if y'all can keep saying Bring Back Butch or Kendal to Kendall.
Tim Walton ran the 4-3 here tooI like what Manny has done, but let's suppose we swapped him out with a D-2 coordinator who also runs a 4-3 defense, how much of a dropoff would we see? I think it's pretty much a lock any DC will have success running the Miami 4-3 at the University of Miami.
