let me start of by saying most of you probably won't understand this because you never really played football. These last two games were pre-season games! We showed a vanilla offense and we're trying new things on defense.

Let's start with the offense, Kaaya has looked good for what plays we have actually ran. No, we haven't opened up the playbook and ran vertical routes yet. Let's see what Coley does next week when he has to open it up. The major issue I see right now on offense is the WR and OL. Everyone was worried about The RT situation but all I see is our LT "studs" Darling and KC getting beat. Gall isn't that good yet but there aren't any other options right now. Our OL on a scale of 1-10 is a 6 right now. WR haven't been consistent so far this year. Too many drops from upper classemen. We have zero game dealers at the position. I have zero faith in Stacey until he shows us he has his mind back into it. We have had zero production from the TE/H-Backs for the most part. It's crazy to think with all the talent in south Florida that we are this weak at WR right now. I give them a grade of 6 also. Let's talk about the strength of our offense right now, RB. We have some beast back there and will have to ride them all year. Both Yearby and Walton are great runners and receivers out of the backfield. They will get a ton of receptions this year with us having suspect WR and no TE's to speak of. Choc will have to continue to improve because he will be needed as the season goes on and the other two start to wear down. Right now they get a 9 as a group!

Defense: we have sub-par talent at multiple positions. Once again these failures fail directly on Al Golden and his recruiting. Dallas Crawford is not a starting safety! He should be 4th or 5th on the depth chart. Starters should be Bush and Jenkins. Right now the safety's get a 7 and that's because of all the missed tackles by Crawford, the others have played well. LB we are super thin and just not that good at. Once again many recruiting failures here. Kirby is slow to react and can't tackle. Owens has played decent at times but now is injured. Gator looks small and once again slow to react on plays. This might be our worst position on the team outside of Grace, he is a beast! LB get a 6 right now. Now for the DL, the most debated spot on this board. Let me start off by saying we are weak at DT. Anytime you have a true freshman playing quality minutes at DT you know you have failed at recruiting. We have two JUCo bums playing in Hert and Kamula. I like what we have in Norton, Moten and Jenkins but they are found and still not grown men dominating the line. DE/RushEnds can be debated all day. I'll start with saying that I believe Trent and Thomas should be the starters on the ends. Trent plays the scheme perfectly and does a great job at play recognition. Thomas is a monster and will only get better. Quan and McCord should rotate in on passing situations to rush the passer. Neither of these two are ready to play the run and have zero gap integrity when they are in. I know everyone wants us to get pressure off the edge but we can't just rush up field and leave gapping holes for RB to run through since our DT aren't good enough to get off blocks. I think the DL will be ok. The main problem is we only have one LB, Grace who actually can clean up a RB. We need a real MLB for this defense to excel.

I could go into much more detail on play calling from the coordinators in both sides but the coffee is wearing off. Overall we have talent in some positions but there are still some major issues at others. I forgot the CB position. Overall they are pretty solid. We can only go 4 deep there though so once again major recruiting issues there. This is an 8 win team from everything I see!

I'm not going to call it vanilla for sure until I see us play Nebraska. Our play calling looked exactly the same as it did last year imo.

The offense has been "vanilla" during Golden's entire tenure. Strongly disagree. In life you either get it done or you don't. There is no in between.

Where is this magical play book that you expect Coley to suddenly open up? This is simply our offense. We have a two year track record to judge him on at this point. It's fair to say he's just not a creative play caller.

We haven't run anything vertically. I think that starts next week. I agree his calling is super all around. I haven't seen a RB screen since he has been here. It will be interesting to see how this whole new spread stuff pans out over the season. Btw FSU is going into the half tied wth USF and Auburn is only up 3 pts on Jacksonville State late in the 2nd quarter. So let's not overreact about last nights first half!

Year 5 and people expect to see this new offense or wrinkles out of thin air?

Even if Coley opens things up, the OL and WRs ain't gonna magically come to life against far stronger competition. I pretty think OP gave a fair assessment and shizz gonna be tough this year.

Golden is sitting smack dab in one of the most first fertile recruiting grounds in the country, and the team still is facing talent deficiencies. We should be stocked to brim with talent. Unfortunately, we are now perceived as a program in decline, so many top players refuse to jeopardize their football career by committing to play for what has become a second-tier team led by subpar coaches.

If this team wins five games, I'll be shocked.

If these first two games were "practice", why didn't we practice a vertical game, or the tight ends? So, without any "practice" we're going to suddenly find success with these elements?

Read the first sentence and skipped the rest of OP's biopic about his NFL playing days.

Some of these OP's should be investigated to see if they are practices of astroturfing. There's no a true fan with no ulterior motives can be satisfied with the performance on the field. All the new posters with limited posts.

Just because I don't post a lot doesn't mean I haven't been a fan of Miami since I was a kid. You guys are idiots in this board. You either are delusional or hate Al Golden and spew negativity.

That's what I'm saying. Our play calling was not vanilla last night. We are running the same plays we usually do.

This is the best D-line golden has ever had, we shouldnt be getting ran on simple as that, FAU threw their whole play book at us yea but there were plenty of times when we got punked too often, crawford and kirby shouldnt be out there, both literally gave them points, thats coaching
