I've always like Merriweather (except that one WV game...) but I can't say he's four.
I need to watch some more old film on Williams, I won't cap. But I loved Kenny Phillips.

No need to nitpick the words. It was relative to the other players above him. I was giving him a compliment, as he's someone I followed closely. He was also a 7th rounder and didn't stick around the League too long. He was solid and I liked his style of play. Let's keep it reasonable.

Game to game in that 91 season, I thought he was our best player. Great centerfielder, and reliable tackler. At many other programs he's no worse than the first or second best safety, ever. It's really too bad he got relegated to be a Cincy Bengal for much of his career

Meriweather had a much better pro career than Phillips & his Junior season was the best we had from any Safety since Sean Taylor. Meriweather is way too underrated by this fanbase.

I hated when we'd put Meriweather at slot corner on 3rd downs, because we didn't have anybody else. BM loved violent contact as much as any player Ive seen at UM, maybe alongside Nate Webster
 
Darryl Williams does lay claim to one honor - he is the best UM safety of the 90s. IIRC, early on as a rookie with the bengals he picked off a Warren Moon pass near the sidelines in the astrodome - Moon stood there with his hands on hips apparently befuddled how fast DW got off the hash to the sidelines to grab the int . NBC broadcaster Don Criqui (personal fav) then stated how Bengal coach david shula had mentioned in pregame meetings how he had given thanks the bengals had drafted DW

Strong argument and most likely says it all. As an old, old timer, I have to give voice for Fred Marion. He was a bad boy before we knew that was what we were. Had he played later, after Miami became the NFL pipeline, he surely would have gone in 1st round instead of 5th(I think). But he really pulls at my heart because he was from Gainesville and as such one the few we stole from them.

Hard for anyone to be next to our top three. Like Teddy, whoever it is, just doesn't quite fit.
