Most of the hot takes about our offense are wrong

I actually think just like this but I'm also not a gambler. I'm assuming most of the peeps talking about point spreads are gamblers. Losing is the easiest thing to do. Any team can lose. Who can you beat though, that more important. No one will give a **** that Bama lost to FSU, just like no one cared that the Irish lost to NIU last year and Taint lost to a bad Michigan team that didn't even have a QB! Their offense also only scored 10pts in the game with NFL football players all over the offense.

1% of the people here who ***** about spreads are actually betting significantly on the games. And that’s probably being generous.

Not mad at it but i dont know if the run game works without TEs. And i would be worried if we’re asking beck to win us games without it

This is why arroyo was so important, we could sit in 11 personnel and basically still have 4 WRs but one of them is a TE that can go in line and block. And people underrated old man cam, having TEs that can block is very important for an offense
Since they like to do tight condensed with WRs blocking I wonder if the receiving TEs (young guys or other) wouldn't work in those slots because they may not block well for TE standards but I assume they block better than WRs .

You’re 100% right. Old Man Cam would be TE1 this year. Crazy.

Our B gap runs are in line with the rest of the country. It's our A gap runs specifically that is 10% higher than it should be

The percentage of Gap runs, A or B does not bother me… I brought up the total percentage to emphasize sort of the predictability of our running game, but at the end of the day it doesn’t matter to me. The problem is us making it obvious that we’re going to run inside and the entire opposing defense being in the box to stop it. What are we doing to actually allow these inside gap runs to be more successful, outside of thinking we can out physical a team while being out numbered? This year we can’t rely on a prolific throwing game to free things up. I think we need to be more creative.

I had a bit of free time before the game... here is 2023, 2024 and 2025. Usage is number of attempts, Yards is yards, Yards Per Carry, YCO/C Yards After Contact per Carry, OLY/C Yards Before Contact per Carry, PFF Grade is the run block grade for the starters. Not really certain what story the data tells. The grades are the best the line has collectively had, but the OLY is the worst in 3 years of Dawson. Perhaps the threat of the passing game and Cam calling an audible to it created more space last year. Perhaps the TEs this year aren't sealing the DL effectively allowing the RB to be caught from behind (Lofton 54.6, Bauman 52.2) same for split zone with the WR in motion. Perhaps the reason they don't use the outer gaps is Bell can't do it and do you want Mauigoa who is your best blocker giving up his position... The next top 50 defense they face is Pittsburgh in the last game of the season, so perhaps it is time get good reps in game situations and gain confidence.

Yeah I don't have the guts to put money on these games. I guarantee that if I took Stanford with the points tonight like I'd want to, that would be the game Miami wins by 35.

All the talk since our game has placed blame on Dawson and Mario and caveman football. Too predictable running every first down, conservative etc…

But let’s review the actual tape.

Drive 1: Drive started off passing. Play 2 was an unsportsmanlike penalty from Cici which killed the drive. Play 3 another pass and then punt

Drive 2: 1st down deep shot for 30 yards. Next 1st down, another deep shot for 39 and now we’re in a goal line situation where pound it in. But so far the only 1st down we’ve ran on was a 1st n goal.

Drive 3: Start backed inside our own 10. We run the ball for 6 on 1st down, but again another drive killed by an unsportsmanlike penalty. Try another run for minimal gain. Then on 2nd down Beck hits a pass for a 1st down at our 18. We pass again on 1st except this time Beck throws it to the Louisville. So this drive where we started inside our own 10 we did come out running, and would’ve been successful if it wasn’t for a dumb penalty. And then Beck giving it away.

Drive 4: Again starting inside our own 10. Again a drive where we started 1st down another penalty from Bell on a false start making it 1st n long. 1st down it’s a 14 yard pass from Beck followed by a 12 yard 2nd down run. We then run on first down for 0. Then again Beck threw the ball to the wrong team

Drive 5: Passed on 1st down. Then another penalty set us back. Passed again on 2nd for 61. Another first and goal. We run on 1st for nothing followed by 2 failed pass attempts.

But overall on our 10 first downs, we passed 60% of the time. And of the 4 times we ran it on 1st, 2 were first n goal inside their 10. And one was first down inside ours.

We only scored 10 points the 1st half. Because 2 of our 5 drives Beck made bad throws and because penalties kept killing our drives.

The 2nd half was even more lopsided in terms of throwing on 1st down.

Now I do have some questions about some our sets. Lville knew we wanted to throw screens out of those trip sets . And I do have some questions about what value our TEs are bringing. Lofton and Bauman play a lot of snaps, they had 2 catches for 18 yards. And unlike guys like Cam they don’t seem to particularly effective blockers.

Maybe time for more 4 man sets with Moore or Tony Johnson. But we’ve also seen multiple times Lofton or someone open on a check down and Beck not looking for it. Which is ultimately the issue. If we can’t stop the dumb penalties and Beck can’t make it through his progressions before forcing passes to CJ or Toney, we’re screwed.

If im reading this correcrly....we gained positive yards on basically every first down pass plays? Because if so...that's really saying quite a bit...
