Because acquiring quarterbacks is one of the most important things in football.

That's the reason Auburn won a championship. That's the reason Florida State went from getting smashed by Florida to winning a championship in one year. When Urban Meyer was recruiting Tim Tebow, he said that missing on him would've set his program back ten years.

Coley's ability to identify and land quarterbacks cannot be underestimated. And I think he is a better coordinator than he showed under Golden.

I would love to land a guy like Herman who installed his own system. But if the right head coach wanted to keep Coley, I would understand and support the move.

I hear ya, but I've never seen an offense this consistently bad on 3rd down and in the red zone two years running. And a lot of this is caused by assinine calls on 1st and 2nd down. Too many 3rd and longs; awful penalties, etc. Does he even know how to run combo routes, rub or run nearly enough crossing routes at intermediate levels?

I'm starting to warm to Tom Herman, if Miami is committed to bringing in a top tier defensive coordinator. I do love Herman's attitude. I think the South Florida kids will love him because he has a little bit of an edge.

Its really so simple. Herman or Butch. Let them bring in/keep whoever they feel is best to suit their staff. Its not rocket science.

Pretty **** good. ACC Rookie of the Year. Projected future first round pick. Thrown for 5,044 yards, 36 TDs and 14 INTs in the first twenty games of his career. It's not like he's struggling.

Lawson decommitted because Kaaya turned out to be a star. That's a good problem. If Kaaya didn't start, we would've gotten Lawson. IIRC, Coley is the reason we got back on Treon Harris. And while I don't love Rosier, Shirreffs is going to be a good player and Allison looks like a monster.

I agree with you about Fuente and Herman. Those guys are studs with proven offenses. But who knows if they are even interested (I doubt Fuente will be). If a guy like Butch or Stoops picks Coley as his OC, I'll feel comfortable knowing that the program will be stocked with NFL arms.
 
You know what, IF (big if) Butch wants to keep Coley, I'm all in. I trust his ability to recognize talent. Otherwise... Meh.
 
I even asked about Tom Herman most coaches dont know him... They are obviously just going with familiarity.
 
Coley can stay on as QB Coach but he needs to be relieved of Play calling duties immediately.

Kev..there's an article about it on canesport with exact quotes........ cmon mane...Golden phucked it up because a lot of coaches don't trust outsiders anymore..... Hopefully we hire Herman and Urban Myer puts out a good word for him..... Butch's name came up too but Crsitobal was far and awaythe #1 choice

Yup. They probably didn't know much about McElwain either when UF hired him, but they sure as **** know now.

Herman's pitch to recruits is very easy. Excellent young offensive mind. Look at Ohio State's offense without him despite getting Braxton Miller back at receiver and retaining every impact player on that side of the ball besides Devin Smith. Look at how he's developed several terrific QBs in such a short period of time. Brings exactly the type of attitude this program so desperately needs. The more they learn, the more they'll love.

Of course they don't! These guys don't follow the CFB landscape and are extremely limited with understanding what's out there and what's good for this program. Otherwise, Mario would be the last person they'd recommend. It's pack mentality.

I am not buying the reason Brad landed ACC rookie of the year was Coley being a QB whisperer. I didn't buy the Kaaya hype until i seen it myself. The young man has the tools and the mentality to play the position at ease. He is lacking the coaching to further it to the point it should be at.

Coley single handily made Morris take a major step back from where we last seen him under Fisch. The guy confuses the **** out of himself after his script runs out.

If there is money and room to just have him as a recruiting guy. Hey keep him around if need be, but he is a sorry *** QB/OC.

They trust Saban, Malzhan and many others because SF is getting looted by outsiders all day long. To me they been in the sun too long and need to get some shade. Turn on a TV or radio and see what is happening outside of SF.

Mario is about to get ran up outta T-Town and they give 2 ***** about his SF connections.

Those yards, TD/INT ratio and other accolades do not equate to a good offense, yet.

In 2014, with a better overall OL, the offense converted 3rd downs at 37%, which was good enough for 116th in the nation.
In 2015, with a star Sophomore QB, the offense converts 3rd downs at 31%, which is good enough for 120th in the nation.


Those are frightening numbers. We have serious problems with identity and rhythm. Conversion numbers are far better indicators of game flow and success. Even if those numbers would go up some, the question becomes "is Coach Coley coming anywhere near maxing out Kaaya's ability?"

I don't know if Golden held him back or not. We'll find out more when Kaaya returns. But, I know what I've seen: lots of predictability (we could call out plays based on personnel groupings last year and some this year), limited angles of attack (we ran the same wheel route approximately 8 times on Satuday; had run the same angle route for the RB over the middle dozens of times in other games, etc.), and an overall lack of any rhythm. Some of that can be attributed to a bad OL. Some of that can be attributed to scheme.

Trying to be fair here. Identifying and locking in talented QBs are critically important aspects to that role. Getting them to produce as close to optimal as possible is the ideal (if not the entire point), though. In the absence of the ability to do that, perhaps another coach can take an average QB and produce the same output.
 
Coley at OC is a nightmare. He is a good to decent recruiter. I believe he can spot talent at QB. But his play calling is abysmal. An offensive coordinator makes his money on 3rd downs. There is a reason those are called money downs. That is where you need to be creative with a solid "feel" for what the other team is doing and what personnel you have that are playing well. That fact that this team stinks in converting 3rd downs is a direct testament to his play calling abilities.

Recruiting coordinator and QB coach...ok.

Offensive Coordinator....NO THANKS

People always say this but he was 3-9 in his SIXTH season. Why shouldn't he have been fired?
