Mario took the prize over Brett V

Absolutely no doubt that Mario has the honor of having the most disappointing first year as a new head coach. And of course, he had the privilege of being the head coach of the absolute worst and most embarrassing loss that Miami ever had…MTSU. But despite all this, I still think he will “right the ship” and turn things around.
Agree. FIU was so rock bottom, there isn't even a word for it.Can u pls stop w the exaggeration.
MTSU is actually going to a bowl game this season & have beaten P5 teams b4. They also have a .560 win % in its history, w/ 10+ conference titles. The most embarrassing loss Miami has ever had came in 2019 against FIU who never beat a P5 team in its entire history, & have a program winning % of .316.
FIU was the wave that crashes over the rocks after you've splattered all over them...Agree. FIU was so rock bottom, there isn't even a word for it.

I get what you are saying, but MTSU beat exactly ZERO teams with a winning record this year. None. Anyone with a pulse beat them. Can u pls stop w the exaggeration.

With Butch as their HC was the cherry on top.Exactly. Nothing will top FIU unless FIU eventually get their chit together & beat multiple P5 teams in the future. FIU may be the worst FBS team, period, & they embarrassed us at our old crib in uniforms called “Miami Nights.”
UNC was a Rocky Horror flick, but FIU was by far the most embarrassing loss since the 70’s. MTSU actually turned out to be a decent team this yr, & so did Duke.

Still, FIU was a brutal loss, and was a sign of how bad things were. MTSU was the same.
I don't disagree with anything you just said. However, there is one important variable. We lost to MTSU with a freaking 10 million dollar staff. That is really, really, really bad. That has to account for something.Again, the term that was used is worst loss in program’s history. That’s called a hyperbolic statement. Losing to MTSU was unacceptable, but at least MTSU have bodies on its résumé & have a winning record as a program. Noooone of that is applicable w/ FIU.
We can all be upset, angry, disappointed or any other negative feeling we have for losing to MTSU, but let’s not forget FIU is by far thee worst lost in this program’s history.
Furthermore, yes MTSU haven’t beat a team w/ a winning record this yr; but, doing a side by side comparison w/ MTSU’s 7-5 record vs. FIU’s 2019 6-7 record:
-the 7 wins of MTSU had a combined 29-44 record
-the 6 wins of FIU had a combined 22-51 record

Also, FIU is still a relatively new program, so their percentage is skewed by this. Also, ironically enough, Mario Cristobal was part of that losing tradition at FIU, going 27-47. So you can thank him for part of that horrible record. I know, I know, he inherited a bad team and made it better, but then was fired when the program began to slip, badly.
My point is this. We went into this season with high expectations. We went out and paid for the most expensive staff we've had, by far. Then to look like that against MTSU is really sickening. When you buy what you think is a Bugati, but you lose a race to a Honda Civic, it's a bad look.
I get it, the FIU loss was maybe the worst. Right up there with the FAMU loss. Just something about the MTSU loss was just harder to fathom at the time it happened. When we lost to FIU, it was bad, really bad, but it almost felt expected, given how poorly we had played up to that point.
Any way you slice it, both losses were brutal.
I’m not sure why a dollar figure is in place, b/c u forget we paid $9m in yr 1 for Manny due to his buyout + salary & we paid $1m for his OC in Enos (aka $10m+)
And let’s not act like we didn’t go in to 2019 w/ high expectations. Lol. This was:
- 2 yrs removed from an ACC Coastal
- 1 yr removed from having a top 3 def
- TNM was coined
- El Jefe was given as a title
- We were assured we’ll be kicking everyone’s *** as we’ll be implementing a new O w/ a killer defense.
I know it’s very hard to not live in the now, but I’ll appoint myself as The Archive for this board to jog ur memory of yesterday.
Bringing the facts my brother. Well done. I think this year just hurts more because it's recent and many fans had super high expectationsCan u pls stop w the exaggeration.

Correct. How is this even close? Mario has been a HC before. This is Brent's first stint

Again, I agree the FIU loss was terrible.
We ALL thought it was the worst loss in UM history at the time, even if it wasn't actually that shocking considering how the season had played out up to that point.
Let me put it this way. Had we just ended the season with a loss to MTSU after the other pitiful losses we had, would it have seemed as bad? No. It would have almost been expected. When it happened, it was shocking. How it happened was shocking. Manny getting outcoached by Butch Davis was NOT shocking. Just the fact he beat us with that team stung so **** bad because of when, who the coach was, and even where the game was played. Those factors made it 100% unacceptable. It just wasn't as shocking, to me, as the MTSU game. Unacceptable, **** yeah.
