Morning Thoughts

I have no problems with the DL performance. I knew before the game this wasn’t gonna be a game they go crazy. Louisville gets the ball out super quick. All they had to do was stay discpline. The real challenge was gonna be on the LBs and DBs. They failed, missed tackles and more importantly they performed how I expected a defense to perform that hasn’t been tested all season in coverage. Just a complete lack of focus and precision.

They were up 14 before we put our helmets on. That's lack of preparation.
Poyser said they did things we didn’t prepare for.

So yea unprepared. But that’s what good coaches do. They use bye weeks to come up with new wrinkles and make adjustments. Mario and his staff just do the same thing every week and hope it works. When it doesn’t, they just scream about “lack of execution”

Biggest concern is Beck turning into TVD and ruining the season. Say what you want about the boring run game but there were guys wide open all night, and Beck kept forcing it. Even if he was somewhat competent we win

Dawson needs to real him in again
can we get someone to steal his lambo again?

When you're better than the other team, you shouldn't need to go all Mike Leach and become "creative". So, yes, it comes down to execution. If we don't throw 4 interceptions we win that game easily.

There’s a difference between “becoming creative” and not adding a single thing, when you have 2 bye weeks in a month, to your playbook for the stretch run. That’s called arrogance.

Maybe Beck wouldn’t have needed to throw it 35 times if the running game wasn’t so predictable and getting stopped.

He had to throw it 35 times because we were behind the whole game mostly due to his drive-killing interceptions.

100%. Up until now, Mario has shown he’s willing to fix the warts. He’s got another opportunity now. No excuses — get it done.
In every other area, yes.

But in the run game approach? Nope. Pride goes before the fall. And as much as he preaches accountability, this is one area that has never faced that level of scrutiny.

But I assert run game diversity is the one thing that will fix EVERYTHING on offense.

That simple.

This might be a new era of college football where undefeated seasons are rare. This is not new for Mario as a head coach. Every season, his teams come out flat and he and his staff are outcoached by lesser teams. Every season.

As he likes to say, “it’s in the DNA”.

The game was never out of reach. The game plan never changed bc of the score. When it was 14-0, nothing changed. Big pass plays and short runs. **** when it was 24-13 late, there were 4 runs in a row for a total of 5 yards between Beck, Brown and Lyle.

Dude......you're not really calling two Beck runs "running plays", right?

They scored 24 points, they scored 10 points after the 1Q

Trumpycane posted on twitter that Beck had his TVD GT game

Question is will he bounce back? Fortunately for us we have terrible Stanford up
Our Canes, realistically because the D fumble and almost scoop and score doesn't count, scored 13 points on offense.

13.

The entire contest.

You’re not even trying at this point. You’re blaming play calling on Beck for throwing picks bc you’re down a lot. Except that’s not true at all.

It’s late and you’re down 11. Here’s the sequence: Short pass, run, nobody open beck runs, Marty short yardage conversion, nobody open Beck runs, Marty runs for 3 and a penalty, roughing call negates beck INT, Fletcher run, incomplete short to Fletcher, short pass, INT.

That is no different than any drive all year. Dawson didn’t call 35 pass plays bc of Beck’s INTs.

So we tried running and throwing and none of it worked. But it somehow got us to 5-0. What, exactly, is your complaint?

I’ll reiterate what I said. There is no surprise with this offense. Not a single wrinkle or deviation from the norm. It simply is what it is for better or for worse. You’ve had two bye weeks and added nothing. When it’s good it’s good and when it’s bad it’s bad.

And I’ll add what I said in another thread. The film is out there. Now you can easily be out coached bc you do the same thing every week. That’s why there is this pattern of losing more ACC games to lesser teams than early season OOC ones against good teams.

Brohm’s offense has been just fine this year. But he still added new stuff. Why didn’t our staff do the same?

I’m with you, no reason to let this ruin the season

But it’s the way we lost that is the concern. Our inability to develop a run game is something this will lose us another game or two if we don’t fix it
We need to fix our running game. This is the root cause of our offensive woes. We've gotten progressively worse.

There's a saying, " I can explain it to you a thousand times, but I can't make you understand it."

Being overemotional over this loss is low-IQ nonsense—no one with any understanding expected us to go undefeated. I admittedly thought we could, but to act like this is some massive shock is either disingenuous or just plain dumb.

Does it suck, yes, am I mad, disappointed, frustrated sure, but there's a ton of season left.

I thought when he took the check Down to 87 after his first pick that he learned something but nope.
