Had a chance to chop it up with Monroe Freeling yesterday who is currently at 6'7 295lbs.

Monroe who was first recruited by Cristobal/Mirabal at their time at Oregon, lived in Oregon until moving into Charleston, South Carolina. Coach Mirabal and him went in depth over film for about 2 hours on his official visit back in June and felt why he got the nickname from some as "the mad scientist". He stresses the technique aspect along with just teaching him the basic fundamentals like no other coach he has been around. His first official visit he said was a "very laid back and chill visit".

In his time in high school, Monroe made it known that the brotherhood and comradery specifically on the O-line is something he values and truly enjoys and is already seeing similar things happening with the University of Miami and wants to continue to experience in recruiting aspect. As soon as Mario and staff was formed at Miami, multiple staff members reached out to Monroe including staff members he didn't even know existed and went as far as communicating with multiple family members of his which has made quite the impression. Antonio Tripp current Miami commit has also built a relationship with Freeling dating back January of his freshman year where they played as teammates at an All Star game.

Monroe is aware of the competition that will be at Greentree in the next coming years in the offensive line and although he plays mostly LT he knows Mirabal's teaching of cross training and will continue to work on playing both sides of the line. Some guys that Monroe models his game after is in fact, Penei Sewell and Quinton Nelson. The energy that the staff has shown Monroe along with high energized practice he was able to watch on his OV, is really telling to what the program is evolving to be. Staff has made it clear to him that they indeed do want Freeling in this class and willing to wait on his decision when that day comes.

Monroe still has 2 official visits and wants to get to a Miami game early in the season before announcing a commitment in the Fall. Monroe has expressed that if he does intend to commit to Miami, that the staff is getting the hardest worker and will lift the teammates around him to reach their highest potential. Freeling feels like there is still more to experience at Miami like just being around the team specifically the offensive line and plans on coming to Miami for a third time just has not pinned a date yet.

Monroe is down to 7 final schools with Michigan, Notre Dame, Georgia, Ohio State, Florida, Clemson and the Canes. He wants to find his fit at Miami and understands that some other guys on the board may have to decide before he knows where he stands with the Canes but I would continue to watch this recruitment closely in the next few weeks.

LT Samson Okunlola
LG Olaus Alinen
C Antonio Tripp
RG Tommy Kinsler
RT Francis Mauigoa

OT Monroe Freeling
OG Frankie Tinilau

Would be very difficult to keep 7 like this committed all cycle with other teams amping the pressure

Samson & Francis are the first round picks here and need to be priority 1

Landing 1 of Alinen or Freeling would be great

I guess Mario is selling he has some guards on this roster through the portal and our depth but tackles we need many.

I don’t think so. OLineman don’t tend to be all over the place once they commit. They not playing with the ball in their hands. We get all 7! With no problem.

Man do I long for the days when we were sweating landing 2-3 OL

Kids go down on the line every year. The starting five for game one rarely stays intact. Most recruits should understand that simple fact.

If we have sufficient talent and depth kids will rotate during games and throughout the season. Maybe we have some guys who excel in pass pro where others are dominant in the run game that would create opportunities for situational line ups.

IMO there are sufficient snaps available for up to 9 players along the line.

There being no counter this year is such a blessing STACK TALENT. Texas had a horrible offensive line last year you know what they did got 7 offensive lineman committed, I’m not saying ours was horrible but we’re not at the point where we can turn down a top 150 kid at any position especially O line.

I'll say our Oline is horrible. New coaches will help but new bodies will help more.

Ive said it many times..I dont care what other position groups need to be sacrificed numbers wise..take all 7-8 if they all want in. That OL room will not look the same after this season. Going to be some kids who realize they dont belong anymore and they will transfer. And some kids who graduate out because I dont see Mario letting dead weight kids stick around for a 6th year. Take them all!

Brad, I appreciate the content you bring to the game but don't forget about the enter/return key brother. Paragraphs are your friend!
All good man, D$ and Stef can vouch I am no writer 😅 I wanted to give out the info as soon as I could for the board. Glad the format got fixed and is a little easier for everyone to read! Big week ahead, Go Canes🙌🏻

Freeling will be the toughest to land, imo. FM is definitely playing tackle for us, imo, and Samson should be the other tackle - we'll see when he gets to camp. Freeling is the truest tackle, imo. From what I understand, Freeling is waiting for the green light from staff although I'm not 100% sure. Looks to be a ND-Clemson battle with UM in there.

You can flip the roster that much faster with no counters the next two years. Take them all if you can make the 85 work.
