Moar Marioball

I hate to tell you this, but what is deserved, and what will be, are two entirely different things

This team has made some improvements (this could very easily be an 8 or 9 win team, right now), but Mario has to really look at his whole offensive approach moving forward in my view. And his gameday coaching, unfortunately, may be what it will always be. Hopefully like a Butch Davis he can recruit his way past it

again, even those who wanted and liked this hire, had their concerns - and still very much do

Every coach has their strengths and weaknesses. Mario's are very clear

I have a lot of respect for you, Steve. I’m also a fan of you as a sportswriter. But as Bill Parcells so famously stated, “you are what your record says you are.”

This team, much like last season’s squad, is incredibly undisciplined, and coached with a level of ineptitude that is hard to fathom. It’ll be extremely difficult for Mario to recruit the kind of classes that he’ll need to be able to overcome his offensive philosophy and his terrible game day coaching.

For starters, he cannot recruit the QB position. Most top shelf QB’s by now know that Mario has a well deserved reputation for ruining QB’s. DT’s and CB’s are also treating us as if we are carrying the plague. It’ll be an uphill battle from here on out for him to recruit top classes.

CTG, you are absolutely right about that. I have no argument about your post. This is a season that could've -- and should've -- been much more satisfying. As Bill Belichick says -- it is what it is.

That Gatech loss was truly a buzzkill. As much as I want this to work with Mario, it dawned on me, ''Good grief, has he learned nothing?"(because this was not the first time this has happend with him as a head coach)

Im still hoping for the best, but I also know what I see. There are a lot of similarities to Butch Davis, but I dont think even he had this many bad foibles on a consistent basis

How would you adjust? I'm being serious with this question.

The linebackers are being fillers for a very mediocre DL. They've needed help in virtually every game.

All you've gotta do is draw them (our linebackers) in and release your TE. That TE isn't going to be open every single time, but the odds are increased because of how we use them.

Lastly, our LB's aren't all that great in coverage. The TE's are a tough match even if you've got good LB'ers.

Bottimline, they called s very good game to free up their TE's. ****, they even disguised an OL as a TE with a legal number change for a TD. I don't follow UofL, but that was a great playcall. Sometimes you've gotta credit the other team. In some cases, you don't have an answer or immediate change that can be made.
Interesting. So essentially it’s a talent problem that Mario hasn’t been here long enough to fix 👍

I'm tired of people mocking my alumni man. We are blue blood in terms of championship history. I'm tired of the same old **** just a different day man. I mean they have the resources but we always get out coached and schemed. We have more talent than most of our opponents just they are not coached or utilized correctly. If um football can't do better I vote to end football. No one goes to the games because it's too far and they don't want to be let down. They have been let down for the best part of 20 years. It's like freaking ground hogs day every Saturday when they play a team with a pulse. It's unacceptable.

You are accurate on all points, my friend. Mario makes Butch look like a game day genius. That makes it about 7 or 8 weeks in a row where our HC wastes valuable timeouts just to call a horrible play that never works.

He did it in the 1st half to try to stop UL on a 4th down and they play actioned to the TE for an easy 1st down. Then again on the last drive, he burns a time out on 4th & goal when we desperately needed to conserve those TO’s, only to come out with another terrible, uncreative play call.

It’s just inconceivable that after being under Saban’s tutelage, he learned absolutely nothing.

I'll say it again, that set of downs before the half, up 7, and to not really press the tempo and try to go up by 2 scores, was a killer. Especially knowing that L'Ville was getting the ball to start the 2nd half.

Also, I truly think UM has to start looking at going more up-tempo and getting a dual threat QB. Lets be honest, Miami for the most part is hard to watch, we are really boring compared to most college teams nowadays. Is this a style that blue-chip recruits want to play in?

I agree. I said the same thing during the game day thread. That’s textbook Mario. Ultra conservative play calling to the bone. We had a chance to take control of that game, and instead he gives them life by playing scared and not to lose. Brohm is a great head coach and could smell the fear from a mile away.

Just imagine, Brohm flips the roster in his first season at UL and has them playing for an ACC title. Mario flips the roster in his 2nd season, and we’re marginally better than last season, and 11-12 under his watch. We are in serious trouble, my friend.

the fact Brohm even got Purdue to a Big10 title game, is proof positive that this guy can coach

I don't play these posting games. I could answer how you adjust, but what's the point if you don't even engage in conversation to begin with.

Learn the game. See how others do it, change it up in a single year. ****, Guidry has been doing a fine job this season, but he ran into a complete team today that took advantage of what we do, drew it up to expose those weaknesses.

We then have a poster like you who suggests we just hit some button and we've got that part of the game covered. That isn't how this sport or any sport works really. That's just typical message board drivel, no offense.

no games being played at all. We need better players at the lb position. We need lbs who can come up and hit and cover te’s. The lbs we’re recruiting this year and the ones we signed last year fit the description. The ones Manny left or didn’t leave and the transfers we had to bring in are good but not good enough. There is no quick fix to our team. The sins of previous recruiting is the reason we’re are here, period. Go back and look at the 19,20 and 21 classes. That should be the foundation of our team. Not Mario’s transition class and transfers. And certainly not the true freshman class.
