A good friend of mine coached against him and texted me to watch him play so I’ve watched him live twice this year, once in person. The accuracy is legit. He just doesn’t miss. He’s not a first-read guy either. He goes through progressions and throws off platform as well as anyone. Every throw has perfect touch and tempo, which makes life easy for his receivers. They get tons of YAC because the ball is always right where it needs to be.
He also gives you that extra element as a runner. He’s a throw-first player, but he’ll extend plays and pick up yards without being reckless. He protects himself. His deep ball is really nice. It’s not explosive, but the accuracy down the field is crazy. Beautiful bucket throws. He plays on schedule and has elite instincts and feel for the position. He looks like a tremendous leader on the field and has full command of his offense.
Concerns:
-He’s small. Like noticeably small. Honestly looks shorter than 5’11.
-He doesn’t have much zip. The arm strength limits the offense. Anything to the field is basically off the table. That’s pick-six territory.
-How will his arm work in the elements? We play in rain, win, cold and snow.
-The whole offense would need to shift. It would have to become a true Air Raid. That might actually be a positive because it fits Lyle and Ridley even better.
-His receivers are running wide open in his current system. He almost never has to throw into coverage. It could be because he’s so on time and so accurate that he makes it look easy.
-He has to load up on anything intermediate or deep. He needs time to set his feet. The ball still comes out on time, so it’s not always a huge issue.
My Comp is smaller Bryce Young
-He probably wins a Heisman with Leach. I’m barely joking. Mali might win one with him too.
-I’d bring him in and work him out in person to see the arm up close.
-Bringing him home would be a great story. The community would love it. It would help with recruiting elite receivers since you get him for two years. And the offense would be a blast to watch.
