Miss St. replaces Diaz with Paul Rhodes

MSU improved as well.

Did they?

Those Pitt defenses weren't lights-out and they were in a watered-down Big East most of those years.

I think the problem with Manny Diaz is he has that BYU game on his résumé. People are extrapolating that to summarize his entire career. By the numbers, he's fine. And he's not too old to be so set in his ways that he can't tweak his defense.

MSU improved? I don't think it is a bad thing to get a guy that did the following:

"Five of the defenses he coordinated ranked in the nation’s Top 30 for scoring and three in the NCAA’s Top 12 for fewest yards allowed. His aggressive philosophy allowed Pitt to score 10 defensive touchdowns from 2004-06.

Rhoads' last two defenses (Auburn in 2008 and Pitt in 2007) before coming to Ames ranked 15th nationally in scoring defense and fifth in total defense, respectively."

He only has to coach the D, where he had success, at MSU. I think they improved, we will see. It is irrelevant either way. We're Miami, what we do is what matters to us.

As for Manny Diaz, I think 1 game in 2013 is a small sample size. It may be evidence of a larger issue, but merely referencing 1 game is pretty dumb. We will see what he can do soon enough.

WTF are you talking about? Stop porsting.

Did I stutter? IT WAS REPORTED. Check Football Scoop.

You're still porsting. Keep going Potato.

Mississippi State: Sources tell FootballScoop that there are other candidates; but Dan Mullen will not offer the defensive coordinator position to anyone else until Ed Orgeron tells him no.

Man, some folks don't learn until you have to rub their nose in their own excrement. Congrats for being an honorary member of Team Fully Richtum.

By the way, in the famous words of Sonny Corleone: " you are no war time consiglieri".

WTF does this have to do with anything?

Here is your original quote:

Mullen actually hired two other DCs before turning to Rhodes.

How could Mullen hire Rhoads when he was the HC at ISU? Are we done?

I already addressed that. Do you still think he was Mullen's first choice?

All I know is that Pitt has been a crap team in a crap conference for a very long time. So, if Rhoads was part of that "winning" tradition, then I think we can safely assume we will survive without the great DC known as Rhoads. Diaz ( on paper) doesn't seem like he's miles ahead or anything, but at least he's younger and might have some upside. Lets see how the season shakes out. . .

I don't care or know. Why is this relevant? Did you lose your tin foil?

Mullen was actually ready to offer a guy with no DC experience at all over the guy you're drooling over. LOL. Yep, we're done.

What offer? How do you know? A website said so without naming a source or quote? Who go the job? Why did he get the job? Was the other guy offered a job as a DC anywhere? Did you learn how to spell Rhoads? Are you aware he was a HC last year and not able to be the DC at MSU?

Who is drooling over anyone? I said I would rather have Rhoads over Diaz, who is drooling?

What does " Yep, we're done" mean? What is it like to be a Potato? Do you know you're a Potato? Have you come to terms with it?

You realize Auburn was 8th in total defense and 6th in scoring defense the year before. So Rhoads inherited a terrific defense the year he was at Auburn.

Diaz is definitely high risk and he needs to recruit very good players to run his defense. I do know this his Mississippi State's defense improved the year he took over in 2010. The Texas defensive was very solid his first year. Lots of discussion why the defense went south in 2012. Louisiana Tech's defense got much better. Mississippi State's defense improved in most categories this year.

You do realize he had a track record before Auburn?

In 2007 (last year at Pitt), he had the 5th best Total D.

In 2008 (after he left), Pitt had the 31st best Total D.

In 2008 (at Auburn), he had the 27th best Total D.

In 2009 (after he left), Auburn had the 68th best Total D.

He already was a good DC who has shown he was capable of good performances. "Five of the defenses he coordinated ranked in the nation’s Top 30 for scoring and three in the NCAA’s Top 12 for fewest yards allowed. His aggressive philosophy allowed Pitt to score 10 defensive touchdowns from 2004-06.

Rhoads' last two defenses (Auburn in 2008 and Pitt in 2007) before coming to Ames ranked 15th nationally in scoring defense and fifth in total defense, respectively. The Sporting News named him the best defensive coordinator in the Big East Conference."

As for MSU (2014 v 2015):

2014: Before Diaz

Total D: 86th
Scoring D: 23rd
Passing D: 57th
Rushing D: 44th

2015: After Diaz

Total D: 56th
Scoring D: 36th
Passing D: 57th
Rushing D: 70th

Not sure of the improvement from Diaz RECENTLY. He has had 5 seasons since the 2010 season and his performance at Texas plummeted quickly. I am hoping that the combination of Coach Kul and better talent is enough, but we will see.

Auburn in 2007 had the #8 total defense and #6 scoring defense. I do agree with your statement. The combination of Diaz and Coach Kool is very important here. I think the Banda hire was also very important. He's a young guy, but he understands what Diaz wants out of his safeties, which is a lot in this defense.

Y do some of u always care bout what other teams r doing in turn complain everything we do? "They got the better hire." How do u know? Season hasn't even started. Stop worrying bout what others r doing and worry about what WE are doing.

I agree!

We have a high quality proven HC in Richt.

We have coaching staff hand picked by Richt. Remember, Richt was asked two days after he was hired what he was going do in selecting a staff. And he said he had received over 250 texts and over 50 calls a day from interested coaches. He hand picked these dudes.

We are going to have an aggressive smash mouth - ball hawking defense.

We are going to have an aggressive fast break offense with a touch of smash mouth clock running schemes tied in.

We are are going to have feared football team, on both sides of the ball.

We all got what we've been waiting for . . . let's sit back, relax and watch it all develop.

And we forget about anything before Auburn or after he left (what happened to Auburn).

Well, the defense actually wasn't very good when they won the national championship. Cam Newton played Auburn out at least in 5 to 6 games.
