MSU improved as well.
Did they?
Those Pitt defenses weren't lights-out and they were in a watered-down Big East most of those years.
I think the problem with Manny Diaz is he has that BYU game on his résumé. People are extrapolating that to summarize his entire career. By the numbers, he's fine. And he's not too old to be so set in his ways that he can't tweak his defense.
MSU improved? I don't think it is a bad thing to get a guy that did the following:
"Five of the defenses he coordinated ranked in the nation’s Top 30 for scoring and three in the NCAA’s Top 12 for fewest yards allowed. His aggressive philosophy allowed Pitt to score 10 defensive touchdowns from 2004-06.
Rhoads' last two defenses (Auburn in 2008 and Pitt in 2007) before coming to Ames ranked 15th nationally in scoring defense and fifth in total defense, respectively."
He only has to coach the D, where he had success, at MSU. I think they improved, we will see. It is irrelevant either way. We're Miami, what we do is what matters to us.
As for Manny Diaz, I think 1 game in 2013 is a small sample size. It may be evidence of a larger issue, but merely referencing 1 game is pretty dumb. We will see what he can do soon enough.
