Mirabal as a high schooler

The fact that this is a thread is a scathing indictment of the virulent stupidity present in this fanbase. What does Mirabal's slight stature have to do do with his competence as an OL coach? You really think it's a coincidence that he's been an extremely productive OL coach at **** near every stop and is highly respected in his field? I didn't know that him losing weight after he stopped playing magically meant that the knowledge disappeared with the weight.

Considering that the majority of our fanbase formed a cult of personality around Mike Leach, a man that never played football past high school, it's amazing that Mirabal's shortcoming as a player, is a conversation topic. Then again, as I've said numerous times before, I'm convinced a lot of our "Fans" actively hate the University of Miami and anyone associated with it.

And? You really think that you have to be built like Nate Newton or Bryant McKinnie to teach OL? You are going to be sorely disappointed when you look at a lot of the better OL coaches in both the pros and in the NFL. Nick Saban was never a quick DB, guess he doesn't know anything about DB play either.

my high school in the 80's and 90's made a killing with guards who were 5'8-5'10 and about 175. A ton of pulling and trapping and basically using the slight size disadvantage as an advantage with some offensive line eye candy. The goal was to not allow big DL's to get their hands on our line. They'd be lunging and tripping over each other. At that level you arent running into a team full of kids who have high level football IQ's.

It was the late 1970s, but I had hs teammates who ended up playing OLman at Army, Navy, UM, USCe, Mississippi State plus HBCU in Alabama...so needless to say we had some big linemen on team...having said this, we had one OL starter who was 5,5ish who rarely lifted weights, and he was a darn good player...lots of technique and toughness who graded better than big, lazy fat phugs who played on other teams...then again, we had some very good coaching.

"By the time they were seniors, Mario and Alex were best friends, leading the Explorers to a 7-3 season. Mirabal weighed 215 pounds and started at guard. Cristobal, a foot taller, weighed only 10 pounds more than Mirabal and played tackle right next to him. Nobody offered Mirabal a scholarship. Cristobal, whose older brother Lou was at UM, had lots of suitors."
Alex is 5'4".... I believe Mario blocked for both of them in high school.
