Milk box: anybody seen Tommy Kennedy?

Who was the UM Coach who advocated for him transferring here? I'd like to hear what his thoughts were regarding what he initially saw in Kennedy. From film only? Did he ever see him in person?

He had offers from Texas, Oklahoma and like 10 other Power 5 schools, so it's not like we went out on a limb recruiting him.

Exactly. Fans so quick to turn on kids around here. Maybe the kid never contributes. So what. It’s one year and most were stoked when we got him over Oklahoma when our online has been so bad. Things don’t always work out for whatever reason.

Some look great in practice and some are gamers...don't know until the bright lights turn on...

Really weird you’d think all those monstrous defensive linemen he mixed it up with playing FOR BUTLER would’ve prepared him for the big time.

I heard their game against Creighton was a real war.

Can back this statement. If the Creighton game was a war, their game at Xavier was WWI and WWII combined. It's something I will tell my grandkids about in 60 years.

He was a transfer. We have no idea what other programs really wanted him. He hit the portal and got expressions of interest. Doesn’t mean he was evaluated well or even at all by those programs. A senior OL transfer with good reviews from his prior program would stand to get inquiries. In any case, our staff (and all staffs) repeatedly claim they do not make decisions based on second hand reports, so what difference would it make if other schools were said to want him?

Brown and Kennedy are two of our biggest disappointments so far. We do pretty well with transfers. Not at OT unfortunately.
Huge jump in competition from FCS and the Pioneer League. Guess it shows how desperate teams are for OTs.

I mean, it's not like we haven't tried. Jahir Jones and Brown were big name transfers who did nothing. Donaldson came is an OT but is too beefy. Herbert and Hillery were supposed to be our next up and haven't lived up to expectations. Campbell after them. Kennedy is an alleged bust ... So now we're hoping a kid who was a pimply 225 lb senior in high school. 10 months ago can be our next Jason Fox. Whatever we were doing in our evaluation process over the past 4 years and well before that really needs to stop.

You don't think the fact that he was physically overwhelmed and came in incredibly weak has anything to do with the training program he was in for the last three years? He didn't get benched because he doesn't understand how to play, he got benched because he was nowhere near strong enough to hold up on an FBS offensive line.
I think it's hard to judge and without having any information on Butler's S&C, you can't make that statement. What else explains Zion coming in when he should still be in high school and easily passing him on the depth chart? That's with whatever lifting he did in high school which I am confident is not the same as a college program like Butler. Some guys just have it or don't.

Mike Sullivan is in our hall of fame. He felt so overwhelmed in practice he was going to quit, coach said you won't face anyone near as good as what you faced in practice...he performed quite well...could that be Kennedy's situation today?
I'd say maybe, except for the fact he's a grad transfer senior so it would have to be some real dramatic instantaneous improvement.

Again, some guys just don't have what it takes physically to compete at this level. Anyone remember Jim Wilson from Chaminade in the late 90s? (This was before Chaminade was a powerhouse). Very productive high school player. Had a ton of sacks. He got rag dolled here from day 1. He bulked up as much as soon as humanly possible to the point where he became a viable scout team guy.. but that was it. Some guys just can't do it at this level.

You forgot 4 star OT Alan Symonette. Army All-American and all that! Flat out couldn't play. Who evaluates these kids? Looks like a lot of guesses and hopes in OL recruiting. That's further borne out by all the really good Big 10 OL who were walk-ons out of HS

I remember discussions about Alan Symonette during his recruitment. Some of my friends had doubt back then whether he was really UM quality.
