Miles Out...Cameron too..

I see them getting a struggling NFL head coach. Market doesn't really look good in CFB

A 2-4-1 special?

Hopefully they get Herman. That will slow down bammer and they will just beat each other up in conference.

I don't want them bringing in Jimbo, which in turn leads FSU to potentially getting a better head coach (perhaps even Herman...sheesh).

This is a very valid concern.....no pun intended.

Billy Embody of LSU.Scout is saying LSU has reached out to Tom Herman & Art Briles through their agents

Art Briles the more logical and affordable option. He could have an explosive offense and better defensive personnel. I don't think bamer wants to face either on a regular basis.

A few thoughts:

If you're not from that part of the country, you might not appreciate just how football crazy they are down in Louisiana. The boosters and big money folk at LSU who oil - pun intended - the wheels of the LSU machine need the university only in as much as it fields a winning football team, everything else is secondary. So, to be clear, they could careless about what's in a coach's past. There concern is can that coach beat Alabama, win the SEC, and win the NC. Briles and Herman will certainly be on their short list.

Not dropping science here, but Miles obviously knows how to win games. His undoing was firing Chavis and hiring Cameron.

I'm actually more interested in where Miles lands than who replaces him. The program that gets Miles will acquire a coach who knows how to build a staff that can really recruit. Of course, he will lose the advantage of being in a football crazy state as the sole flag ship institution. No other program in the country had that type of recruiting advantage. That said, I wonder if NC State, for example, will make a run at him or Briles. I can't imagine they wish to continue to be content routinely get walked by the likes of ECUs or any other team with a pulse. Penn State needs a new coach as well. Perhaps Miles will end up there.

As a rule, whoever gets the job at LSU would be wise to keep Louisiana talent at home and not scour the country looking for athletes. Louisiana is one of those states where they have big bodies who can move and elite skill position guys. Just go out of state for the few roster positions where you can't find talent at home.

As Lu said, hoping on top of hope that either FSU or the gators do the smart thing and bring in Cameron as an offensive coach preferably with assistant head coach tag as well so he can more throughly wreck their offenses.

This, but L$U clearly gives 0 ****s about money. They'll pay Miles's buyout, and any of their top targets buyout.

So you think they will pay $13MM for Les's buyout and another $10MM for Petrino's?

Don't know if this is true, but a decent source said they were prepared to do that last year, except they were simultaneously requesting more funds from the state for the school. Things fell apart for those reasons. Take that for whatever message board fodder it's worth.

They may have been prepared to buy him out but were they also prepared to pay another one.
Yes. That's what I meant. That this dude mentioned they were prepared to buyout Les and Jimbo. I don't know Jimbo's #. I don't know if this was true. Apparently, the fallout was political because they needed larger funds for other reasons and couldn't make this double whammy move at the same time.

I'm far removed from any of this. I don't even think Petrino will move. My statement was that I think schools are going to pay some big buyouts this upcoming offseason.

I don't buy it. Almost $25MM before paying the new coach.

One would think Petrino's fall from grace would make him a better person than to jump ship on the program that gave him a second chance.

Nahhh...

He is paid well and has a $10MM buyout. UL will keep him and give him another raise.

I don't think Petrino will go anywhere, but I'm prepared to see all sorts of records broken for coaching buyouts.

The Louisiana state budget is wrecked and I don't think they're in any position to offer a coach a max contract. It will be interesting to see what they offer.

They also have to pay $13MM to Miles. To take Petrino from UL, you have to pay another $10MM.

Interesting time of year. Oregeron will coach the rest of the year but how do they start reaching out to folks now? I'm guessing they won't be able to do any interviews before the season is over? That's a long time in limbo.

Who can really beat Saban on a continuous bases? Only person I can think of is Urban and he aint leaving OSU. Jimbo would get ***** slapped. An I think Herman is going to Texas.

Urban left SEC to get away from having to play Saban on regular basis.

Herman isn't going to LSU.

They will make a huge run at Petrino. Probably offer him 10 mil per year. Dude has a huge ego. He will probably take the deal.

You give Petrino the type of talent that LSU consistently gets and Alabama is going to be hating life.

That's the guy I wanted for the Canes for years. In my opinion he's easily one of the best gameday coaches in the country.

Great coach, beyond awful human being, and most programs do care about such things. LSU is one of the few programs(Louisville is also in the group), where the boosters and the like will totally disregard glaring character flaws, if it gets them to their desired end goal. Miami won't, because the PR nightmare would be too much to overcome.

This is a perfect fit for Randy Shannon and Butch Davis. Randy is now seasoned and it would give Butch a chance to get back on the scene as DC. With that money they can hire a top notch staff.

Who the **** do Georgia and LSU think they are? Maybe this deserves its own thread but I'll leave that to someone else

These two above average programs (lsu a little more prestigious) come across two greats and throw it away trying to become the next Bama. I can understand richt no championship. But les miles will have a job ASAP better paying and less stress. This will most likely be better for him honestly

Yeah, who the heck fires a coach who won one NC and played in another and put tons of talent in NFL ... oh, wait, we did that too.

If butch went there he would wipe saban in year three
