When it comes to the claim "best DT in the country" our lie detector test determined...That was a LIE.

Actually, living in Washington, I know something about the Povich family. I never knew how Povich, with his lack of talent, got to where he was. It must have been that he had opportunities--just like Chris Wallace--just because of who his father was. His father was one of the best known and most prominent sportswriters of his time, Shirley Povich. The senior Povich was a Washington institution for many years. He was also nationally-known and respected.

I first learned about Maury when he hosted the very widely-watched and respected local discussion program "Panorama" on what was then the Metromedia affiliate. (It is now the Fox Affiliate). I don't know when the show finally folded, but it was influential and was widely watched by people in Congress, the "opinion-leaders" and so forth. Maury was on it when I first came to D.C. in the early '70's and I thought he was a jerk and a joke. I felt he got into the field because of access due to his father's wide connections.

I don't remember when he left, my impression is his career was never as good and has become just trashy tabloid journalism. Another guy who was very big in D.C. in the '70's was Warner Wolf and I don't know if his career went up when he moved to NYC. At some point, he came back to D.C., and failed.

Wyche might have been one of the best DTs in HS. You know how inaccurate those rankings are. I hardly remembered him at UM, he did so little. All I know is, he came in from JC with lousy leg strength. It seems to me that a DT needs a power butt and lower leg strength to fire out low and explode with great force into an OL low. If you have a weak leg press--and I think he did--you've got a problem. At least that's my non-expert guess. He came in weak as an upper classman and had almost no time left to develop game-ready strength.

He said something about Green Bay...did he have a tryout in G.B.? Don't tell me he made the team or practice squad.

Although he was not up to standards... The guy still played D1 football, poorly, but he played.

And if we didn't waste McCord's time by having crash inside he probably gets the sack at the 1.5 sec mark. Dorito!

Seriously, if you are going to crash McCord to create that seam, at least have Kamalu do the stunt instead of Wyche

Nah kid, you send Wyche because they'll never see it coming. Seriously, nobody's looking for the slowest guy on the field to run that far. Genius.
Kinda like a HB Option Pass in a snow blizzard.
