Michael Irvin Transferring

He gave us a few years, maybe now it's time for him to make a move that might maximize his earning potential.

I honestly wish him the best.

I really hope he stays.

We can’t afford to lose another player right now given we’re at 77 scholarship athletes and 3 of those are former PWOs. I’m not even counting Ragone.

We have 74 legit scholarship athletes, and that’s counting guys like Herbert and Jennings and Matocha. Many of them aren’t even on campus yet and many more are injured. My tiny little 170-kids-a-class highschool fielded more kids than we’re sending out during Spring camp.

The University of Miami schedules classes for all of the students, not just the 85 on the football team.

If an athlete has a required class, school comes first. The football team can't possibly schedule practices around the class schedules of 85 players.

This usually only happens with upper-level required classes that are not offered at other times.

It's not a "plan better" situation.

It's a "university doesn't have infinite numbers of professors offering infinite numbers of courses" situation.

You do realize athletes get first dibs at classes before regular students right?

Players should know the practice schedule beforehand and pick classes based around their football activity.

Of course if there is mandatory class they have to take then yeah it s what it is but usually there are multiple options for classes

So on Saturday he is an active participant in the Women’s Clinic/Camp and Monday he is transferring?

Fascinating

I said this back when we were recruiting him and got blasted for it, but it’s true. Michael Irvin II is not a Miami caliber player and never should have been offered.

got it, thx so in reality we have 1 scholia we can use for a portal player

Approximately. In all honesty, even though I know the IC rules, Manny and the staff would know more about which players graduated in December, and whether we have any "mid-year replacement exception" slots left.

But, yes, generally speaking, it would be nice to have a fan base that doesn't think that "85 scholarships" is the only rule, and that doesn't view every kid who leaves the team as "another scholarship opening up".

We can only give out 25 per year. Doesn't matter if we had 84 scholarships available, we can only give out 25 per year.

This is 100% a plan better situation. The school should not be scheduling mandatory classes, that players are planning on taking, that take place at the exact same time as football practice.

You are truly proving the dopiness of of your thought process.

It's a University that offers a football program, not a football program that offers classes on the side.

"The school should not be scheduling mandatory classes". Yeah, I'm going to stop you right there. This just shows how little you know about how a university schedules classes.

A university of 15,000 students including grad-law-med (let alone a school like Ohio Taint, with 50,000 students), should just build its ENTIRE scheduling process around a handful of upperclass football players. That is, quite possibly, one of the dumbest things I have ever heard on this website, and I've heard a lot of dumb things on this board.

The offering of classes is usually set years in advance, and then the times are finalized based on professor availability, room availability, and a general balancing of all classes offered at various times. Meanwhile there are, what, 15-20 spring practice times, only a couple of which EVER overlap with a required class.

And for THIS, for a handful of senior-level football players, the entire university should reschedule classes that impact hundreds of other students.

****, here's a good idea, let's just turn UM into a night school. All classes will begin after 5 pm, and all the football players can attend practice without interference. PROBLEM SOLVED.

Yeah, it's just a "plan better situation".

Aren't you at the top of list of "most ignored" posters? Now I understand why.
