Just to past the time, what four players would you have on our Mt. Rushmore? Don't include what they did at the next level; this mount should be strictly what they did as Canes.

I have my Mt Rushmore as T Hendricks, J Brown, E Reed, and the Playmaker.

This is a fantastic question, and much more complicated than "who was importantly productive". You specified "players" so coaches are out. I don't think they should be as you cannot have a Miami Mt. Rushmore without, at least two or three, but I'll try the "players only" thing:

1. Either Alonzo Highsmith or Melvin Bratton. Those recruits legitimized Howard and began the possibility of the "U". For those who don't know, check recruiting back then. Miami didn't begin in 2001. If Howard doesn't pull them....we don't have the U.
2. Jim Kelly.
3. Either Irvin or Reed. Both epitomized what you could be at Miami: great, arrogant, and the hardest worker out there.
4. I am not a huge fan, but part of me thinks Duke Johnson might be on there. He was a true believer who came in for Golden and gave us all he had. He could have gone anywhere. I love Frank, Portis, Willis, OJ, Edge...**** I even like McGuire and others more as backs....but that guy, at that time, mean something significant.

Irvin, Lewis, Kosar, and one of the dominant DTs - probably Jerome Brown.

And even though you specified players, you have to consider Howard S. as important as anyone.

I'm going to break it down further and go by position, coaches as well.

Coach - Howard, Jimmy, Butch, Dennis

QB - Kosar, Dorsey, Vinny, Gino

RB - Highsmith, Edge, Portis, Willis

WR - Irvin, Eddie Brown, Andre, Santana

TE - Winslow, Shockey, Olsen, Bubba

OL - McKinnie, Romberg, Searcy, Gonzalez

DL - Brown, Kennedy, Maryland, Sapp

LB - Lewis, Hendricks, Morgan, Vilma

DB - Reed, Taylor, B Blades, Buchanon

In this spirit I'm going to go the opposite route and say just put Jeff Popovich's head on the mountain 4 consecutive times.

Irvin, Medearis, McKinnie, Reed. I think people forget how dominant McKinnie and Medearis were. I don't think McKinnie gave up a sack his entire career, and, pre-injury, Medearis was a big sack waiting to happen.

Any list that does not include Ted Hendricks is no list at all. Miami's only 3-time All-America. How good was he? He has a national award named after him. The top college football defensive end of the year receives the "Ted Hendricks" award.

People also forget just how good Dan Morgan was here. He arrived two years too early. Had he been here in 2001 and 2002 not only do we win two titles, we are even more dominant than you can imagine.

My list is players only. If coaches are involved add JJ and Howard to the list and substitute for anyone except the Mad Stork.

Hendricks- One of the most dominant players ever.

Lewis- Best linebacker ever in the NFL.

Dorsey- Leader of the greatest college football team ever. 38-2 as a starter.

Reed- The Ken Dorsey of the defense. Best safety in NFL history.

Honorable mention:

Irvin, Vinny, Kelly, Edge.

Dan Morgan and Edge- two guys I like to think were part of the momentum that got us to 2001 but mannnnnn were they just a few years early as they would have been such stars on what should have been back to back championship teams.
