Isn’t the goal of a camp to get better at your craft aka the Xs & Os? He’s flying to another campus to get a first hand look at this kid. Not every kid wants to play for a salesman.

If a kid is serious about football, X's and O's should be a good impression. If they're just there as a social event that's on them. Believe it or not even in this day and age the position coach matters... Kids express and the time they went to so and so school for what they felt would be coaching to get them to the NFL.

X's and O's is the cover up. He's really there to recruit these kids.

Outside of specific positions on this team, I think our coaching staffs ability to recruit is a major weakness. While winning will put us in the conversation for elite kids it will eventually come down to which coach recruited the kid the best. Coach vs coach, Mano-a-Mano. Who really thinks Patke or Stubblefield is going to out recruit anyone?

I'm 50/50 on his personality as a obstacle to him being a successful recruiter.

You guys cant have it both ways. The whole reason people here complain about rumph is hes not a good enough recruiter. Hes an xs & is guy too but with ten times more personality than patke. The one truth behind both is xs & is AREN'T enough. A kid wont even consider a coach who they cant relate to. Especially one without a proven track record. So you see to most kids this is counterproductive. Were doing nothing but getting a first hand evaluation while showing bad face.

Again, correct on why a kid should be going... however OUR purpose in going is to get first hand evals AND MOSTLY TO ESTABLISH RELATIONSHIPS WITH THESE KIDS AT AN EARLY STAGE. If the coach you send doesnt give a good first impression and connect with these kids than all you did was waste the money on the recruiting budget & FAR MORE IMPORTANTLY GIVE A BAD FIRST IMPRESSION. Cant get that back brother.

Now I'm getting concerned here. Two times in two days I've gotta agree with rev because he sees the obvious. It's common sense what OYR purpose would be in being there. For that to be effective we gotta have both sides of that coin covered. I wouldve sent fields probably.

I get it, but if the pitch is great coaching then....

And I realize nobody even knows anything for sure but to simply dismiss it isn't right either.

Very interested to see what Hickson can do on the trail. From the outside looking in it at least looks like there is potential there.

Brother I'm not dismissing it. But two reasons I'm speaking on this. #1 I know patke. He sortve bumbles through his words and is goofy with it in general. Good dude. Knows his ****. #2 a kid wont just blindly pay attention to a random coach because he has a title and a staff behind him. You gotta make that kid pay attention. Unless you got a powerhouse title behind you it just ain't gonna happen like that.

Good insight. This may be an unpopular take because we all want immediate results. But, given Patke is so green really the only way he can improve is to just get out there and recruit. Maybe it pays off more in the long run because we are lacking some recruiting skills on staff.

Patke is a TEXAN. That goes far with some players, sometimes, that may be part of the angle to send him.

Honestly I think we gotta find the time to have all these coaches see counselors and listen to motivational speakers more often. A lil confidence goes a long way.
