A few days ago the Westgate was taking bets Miami -1. Last night the line moved to LSU -3.5. Anyone know why the line would have moved? Anyone seen lines anywhere else?

If I had to guess, people are betting we will be breaking in a new quarterback.

Orgeron jokes are fun, but LSU has some guys and they can run the ball.

First of the month welfare and disability checks hit the redneck cajun population and all that money was bet on LSU.

Canes getting any points is a great deal here. Would love to cash in on a nice moneyline wager and start the season off right.

It is the first of the month. LSU spring break maybe?

I am guessing the throught process is that our QB play is mediocre at best and that we are breaking into new DT's against a team that is going to try to play smash-mouth football.

I’m not a gambler, but I understand the concepts, and six months out, this still has to be a pikem game even for one vendor/house, and they might just be trying to balance the bets. Might want to look at the other houses’ lines.

Lines don't just move 4.5 points for no reason and as we saw last year, the guys in the desert were pretty good about knowing how our games would go. The line moved against us in the Pittsburgh, Clemson, and Wisconsin games. Notre Dame was a zigzagging line without much conviction, but at no point last year did we see a 4.5 point move in any of our games. Likewise, the line movement was spot on in the FSU and VT games.

Makes little sense to worry about lines 5 months in advance. Let's see what the real opener is the week of the game and pay attention to how it moves then. This move doesn't appear to be injury-driven and neither team had its Spring game yet, so what may have caused it is the casino took a few limit bets (maybe $300 or $500 right now) on LSU and adjusted it. Does anyone know if any other lines moved so significantly? I only know of the Golden Nugget that offers lines on select games this far in advance. Online casinos generally don't.

Sports betting lines move simply based on the amount of bets $$ that are being placed on each side.

It has nothing to do with any "special" insider knowledge that the House has.

LOL I can almost guarantee the limits are small, probably a $1,000.00 or less. And several bets that size will push the line around this early when the hold is jack ****. Furthermore, I always doubt that Vegas sportsbooks are taking a ton of sharp bets as they are known for turning down bettors, who actually know what they are doing. Wait until Pinnacle opens a line and the limits are raised and then see what the line does. Half of these sportsbook managers in Vegas are sitting in the back copying Pinnacle's line movements.

This is 100% NOT true.

Guess we disagree.

The House does set the initial line. But the question was why do the lines move.

The House's eye is always on the betting action and they move the initial line accordingly. They are simply doing their best to equalize the bets $ coming in on both sides of the bet. So as I said before, betting $$ is why the House moves the lines.

If you still disagree after reading these, then we just simply disagree
