Miami should look at Brent Venables.

Why would we want anyone without head coaching experience?

Jimbo Fisher is doing just fine without previous head coaching experience.

They need to pick the best guy.

Fair point. However, Venebles has been a DC since 1999 for a reason. First question of the interview would need to be "Brent, you've had success as a DC for a long time. In your opinion, why have you never gotten a genuine crack at becoming a HC after 16 years of being a DC?"

How about Muschamp or Shannon?

Or Bob Stoops?

Every coach is a risk. Justin Fuente could be the next Urban Meyer or the next Brady Hoke. I would cast a very wide net that includes head coaches, coordinators, guys from small schools, guys from big schools, people with Miami ties and people without Miami ties.

My fear is that Blake will overreact and focus on HC experience (because of Shannon/Coker) and Miami ties (because of Golden).

Venebles is intense
Look at his bio
He wants a place that's wants the best players
He wants high expectations
He wants to win
He will succeed here

Venebles is not a south florida guy. He just isn't. Great coach. Great DC, but not a good fit for UM.

I'm sick of hearing about this "Miami guy". Pick someone who'll win. Someone who can establish a solid (and aggressive) identity. We hired Miami guys and they didn't work out. Hire a fcking winner. Period.

What does this even mean? I'm not pro-Venables by any means. I'm just sick of this notion that we need a "Miami guy" or someone who "understands Miami"

We need someone who takes a ruthless approach to the game and wins.

It means he's a guy who played and coached under Bill Snyder, then coached under Bob Stoops. Big12, college town public university atmosphere. He's from Kansas. He's never been one to go out of his way to be in the spotlight and has never shown any desire to do anything but coach. No flash. No ego for the bright lights. He does his job, and he is very good at it.

I don't think he is a good fit for the pro-sports mentality & flash of south florida & Miami. That's what it means.

This is a darkhorse candidate for the HC position. Losing 9 starters on defense last year. Now have one of the best defenses in the country. He is a younger coach with some swagger and I think he will be a good fit.

What you think?

Blake James should have walked across the field after the game ended and given him a 5 year contract on the spot.
Guy is a great coach.

No thanks. Venables has been a name in coaching for well over a decade and still hasn't gotten a HC gig. I'm not sure what the reason is for that, but there's obviously a reason and I'm not interesting in UM finding out.

LOL. All I needed to see to confirm that Venables is not the pick is this post.

I'm going to repeat this till I'm blue in the face:

Since the turn of the century, 85% of the title winners were coaches with prior experience.

Jimbo, Chizik, and Coker are the outliers. Those are TERRIBLE odds.

he a better choice than Mario too

I'd be happy with a Butch return BUT it's not going to happen ! UNC, no matter what Butch says about
exhoneration, is a dark cloud over his head. The BOT will not take a chance on Butch. My guess.

Hey Verobob, see you at breakfast in the morning. We have much to discuss since Golden's departure.
