We just played Pitt and UVA. I want u to take not of each of their last 5 classes. Then ask yourself how is it that they can get those players to play with us. But when u ask us to give Clemson a game all we hear is excuses. Miami has the easiest path back to being relevant. We out recruit our division so badly each year. Only when we are bad and coaching staff change do we usually get classes close to the next teams in our division.....yet, we look like trash. When u open your mouth to talk about us not having players to play with whichever team. Look at the graphic and ask yourself how we managed 1 solitary division title for all those classes. Trash coaches, inadequate staff. One or two coaches surrounded by bums and people who have no business coaching Miami players.

Bumping this for that crap about us not being more talented. People like to point to Clemson talent when we play them but wanna turn it around when we play UVA and Pitt. You hear some other crap. Stop making dumb excuses 15 years is enough of it

These comparisons as always are absolutely worthless without comparing who from each class actually stayed. Transfers and guys leaving early or flat out quitting the program count in your class comparison but aren’t actually here.

Would it shock fans to find out many of the 3 stars going to these other programs actually stay, work, develop and play there for 3-5 years?

It’s mind boggling we don’t dominate this Division. One of the most confusing things in all of sports.

COACHING AND DEVELOPMENT.

Teams like VA TECH and UVA will never be top 15 recruiting classes as they dont even target those types . They go for scheme fits to their system.

If you were to put a COACH rankings....that would show a lot different. Even currently if you put are coaches resumes up with the division most of those teams have better staffs. On defense alone to me....there is one guy that should have a case to be a power 5 position coach and thats Stroud.

Clemson has almost all of their 2017 class stil on the team.
Alabama still has 4 out of their 6 five star recruits on their team from the 2017 class.
cant just look at the classes and say that’s all.
Retaining and evaluating properly have has hurt us immensely.
I think our 2017 class for example is like half gone or transferred or at least close to it.

And whenever we get anyone in this team with any chance of making an nfl roster the jump off this ship like a hot chick on the titanic

Has the recruiting and talent, ever been the question? There is so much on the coaching as well.
A mate of mine (Ok state fan) believes recruiting is the most critical aspect and as a Miami fan I think coaching is. Probably because they are the things missing from our respective teams.
If you can get both, then welcome to the Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Clemson tier. If you have question marks like Brian Kelly, Tom Herman or Jim Harbaugh, then you get to be overrated every year.
I’ll take the coach, especially in Miami.

They gave us a game. When we get smashed by Clemson I hear how many top classes they have. When were are fumbling and bumbling with UVA those arguments are not valid for the same people

We’re also 6-2 (3-1 vs each) since 2017 against them.

We’ve been and will continue to be better than them year in and out. They may give us a game but in the end we’ll keep beating them.

How we look while doing it has been the only issue.

Poor schemes for much of this period, followed by excessive roster attrition. Poor special teams play in 2018 and 2019. A refusal by the school until 2016 to properly invest in the program.

Echoing others on the board... Coaching, Development and Decipline. Exhibit A: We had 2 LB's start for 4 years and saw zero growth. And in some instances they regressed. As a former HS and College LB, this bothered me. Those 2 deserved more than that. Our current LB's deserve it. Every single position group should expect it. Especially when you come to The U.

Zandier was all over field for Virginia last night. 3 star coming out of HS. I'm sure he's getting properly coached up, developed and taught to be decipline at all phases of the position. As fans we're not asking for much. Lol

We...have Patke. Smh.

It really isn't. What's mind boggling is how Blake James got a job he was never qualified for, and furthermore how in the name of all ***** he's been allowed to keep it this long.

All of the other things mentioned in this thread (coaching, development, recruiting, etc) are all SYMPTOMS of a greater disease. The disease is a BOT that doesn't give a flying F about football evidenced by an incompetent appointed custodian, masquerading as an "Athletic Director", and I use that term loosely.

Every year we lose to a few of these coastal teams we have no business losing to. 2020 might be our year tho... so far so good

It doesn't matter if you have good records against them when we are just taking turns losing to each one. 1 division title. Duke and UVA won the division with those classes. We don't need to beat these teams we need to dominate.

If you go back through the classes and re rank them after removing guys who transferred/never enrolled/career ending injury, you’ll see exactly why they haven’t played up to the recruiting rankings.

2016: Sam Bruce, Ahmon Richards, Jack Allison, Dionte Mullens, Jovani Haskins, Malek Young.

2017: DJ Johnson, Brian Polendy, Evidence Njoku, Cade Weldon, Derek Smith, Zach Feagles This class is particularly bad because a lot of the guys who did stay were busts or head cases (Jeff Thomas, N’Kosi Perry and Kai-Leon Herbert were all 4 star guys)

2018: Lorenzo Lingard, Jarren Williams, Brian Hightower and Marquez Ezzard were all 4/5 star players. Realus George and Bubba Baxa were also part of this class. There’s been pretty good production from this class. Most of the best players on the team were from this group.

2019: Only Christian Williams is gone but he was their second highest rated recruit.

2020: True freshmen currently. The highest rated recruit has missed the entire season so far.

Couple all these guys who transferred with guys who were solid contributors who stupidly declared for the draft early and you end up with a team like we have today. Some really good talent at certain positions, huge holes at others. We’re constantly having to fill gaps with transfers and freshmen and good teams don’t have to rely on that

That's coaching and development. Players stagnate and get frustrated and leave. Zach McCloud is a prime ewxample of what I'm talking about. 5 years in the same scheme, worse than when he came in. Amari Carter, making the same dumb tackles, another SR. And for the others who never played, bad evaluations.
