Miami opens 11.5 point favorite at Cal

They beat Auburn at home game one.
Regardless it’s still a sec team at home.
if it’s a cakewalk then let’s go. But I’m done saying any team is an easy w.
Auburn turned it over 5 times. If they don’t do that they roll…..at least thats how it works on CiS.

cal has lost the last 7 times after bye weeks (not including 2020 season)

admittedly most of those are against equal or better competition, but still noteworthy

VT had the better DL on Friday. Our Canes DL should take that personally
yeah I mean potentially but honestly, I think we got out schemed and we had bad run fits. Felt like that was more indicative of what happened than poor DL play

didn't d money say on the pod that we still had 35 QB pressures? that's insane

also keep in mind we didn't have bain which deflated ours, and we didn't have rivers which inflated theirs

Today on ACC PM, Mark Herzlich had 2 Cal LBs ranked second and third in ACC top ten

Not one East Coast time zone team has played a 10:30pm ET start this season. Not one. Here are the closest parallels, do not think this 10:30pm ET start will not have an impact on the game:

Week 1:
No comparables

Week 2:
Liberty was favored by 22.5 points and eked out a 6 point win at New Mexico State. Game started at 10:15pm ET.
Mississippi State (Central time zone) was a 6.5 point underdog and lost by 7 at Arizona State. Game started at 10:30pm ET.
Texas Tech (Central time zone) was a 2.5 point favorite and lost by 21 at Washington State. Game started at 10pm ET.

Week 3:
No comparables

Week 4:
Northern Iowa (Central time zone) was a 10.5 point underdog at Hawaii and lost by 29 points. Game started at midnight ET.

Week 5:
No comparables

What's interesting about our line is that usually the pointspread and the ML are correlated, but right now at Pinnacle, we are -10 -109 with a ML of -434. Sam Houston State is -10.5 -107 with a ML of -426.

So Vegas (no, Pinnacle isn't in Vegas) has our game with a tighter spread, yet it costs you more to bet Miami to outright win than to bet Sam Houston State to do so.
So we fuccin or nah?

They still only had 286 yards of offense.

Look, this is how it works now. Miami is #8 in the country. We’re the hunted every week. They’re off a bye. They have gameday in town for the first time ever. We are going to have their FULL attention, and then some. This is why it’s so hard to go undefeated in this sport. Once you start to win a few games, you sneak up on no one. We will get their best shot. Will we be up for the task?

Didn’t realize they are off a bye. Too bad Manny isn’t the coach

Unfortunately, that’s what they do. They’ve forced a lot of turnovers.

4th in the country in margin.

In 3 FBS games, they’ve gotten 8 and given it away only twice.

They’re not overly explosive on offense. But they’re very smart and sound on defense. It’ll be a challenge. I don’t disagree at all with the line moving down from where it opened vs up.

Payton Thorne and FSU. Lol

I think the line is about right. 10-14 range is what I'd expect.

With that O/U of 56.5 that would put team totals at around 33-23 or 34-23.

I don't see it getting that high. I'm thinking 30-17 or something like that. I think under is the best play
We learn a lot about Mario as a head coach with this one.

Long trip, banged up…a lot of issues exposed….big chance for him to prove he can right the ship and get us back on track.

As big of a joke as we consider Cal back in the day, they can’t wait.

"This is the biggest game in Cal football in two decades"

Miami is the only team in the country that gets talked about like this nearly every week this year... yet people still like to point out how bad and irrelevant we have been. It's been this way for years to a slightly lesser extent.

UF was hyped as that until 5 minutes after the kickoff then they backtracked everything they said for 8 months, Miami at USF was the biggest game in the history of their program - and keep in mind they hosted Saban and Alabama the prior year. VT was saying a win against number 7 Miami would have been the biggest win in their program's history (just 10 years earlier they went into the Horse Shoe and beat eventual National Champion Ohio State who was ranked 8th in the country). Every game with any meaning we have played this year has been the biggest game ever, in the last 20 years, or has an exuberant amount of meaning for the opponent only because it's Miami.

Target on our backs and in the spot light. I love it.

Well, the line is now Miami -10 -105, ML is -415 at Pinnacle. Obviously, not a good sign since it opened -11 and has linearly dropped. In case you are wondering, no, it won’t close at or above -11. We just need to hope it doesn’t drop any more.
