Thought we had book end tackles with Samson and Mauigoa. There’s still time. But perhaps we get it this time around

OL class was already looking pretty good before Cantwell

I agree
This just takes us from top 25 to top 4 in terms of ceiling

But I would hope that after 3 full years of development that kinsler/samson would be our bookend tackles next year
I guess they think cantwell is that good

And keep recruiting Pepe until the end. Riley has gone 11-3, 8-5 and 7-6. Headed in the wrong direction. They’re going to look good to start because the first half of their schedule is a cakewalk. The second half is brutal and they should lose 4 games maybe more.

Kinsler might slot into Cooper's RG spot. But Samson still has this year to get some reps at LT behind Bell. That will tell us a lot.
 
Ervin should be a 4 star player. He runs his feet very well and when he’s engaged you aren’t getting out. He does allow for defenders to get into his body but his core allows for him to over power anyone who does get inside. I’d like to see him shoot his hands on contact more. That over powering works in high school at his size/frame but that won’t always be the case on the college level. His play speed isn’t as fast in his Junior highlight reel compared to the spring game clips which tells me his has put in work in the offseason to better his craft. His base can get narrow as he drives defenders (usually into the dirt). That can get widened out with Mirabal for sure. Not a ton of pass sets in the highlight reel. His kick looks decent but he isn’t shooting his hands, once again allowing rushers into his chest. He just so **** powerful. @DMoney this kid can be great. I think he’s a Guard. He’s high but at 6’7 he’s not straight up and down.

I told you I’d give you a legit breakdown and this is it.

Watch the Hudl reel. There are some minor things you can nitpick - his pad level is high at times and his hand placement isn’t always perfect. However, I think 85% or more of the snaps in the film result in him pancaking someone. It’s actually really impressive because many of them are blocks where he engages the 2nd or 3rd level defender 5-15 yards downfield and pushes for another 10+ before toppling the other dude. Again, it’s Ervin’s movement at that size that stands out. I would be shocked if you come away unimpressed.

Pretty fair assessment. Your comments about overpowering guys is spot on.

Ervin has great potential. I am very happy he is in this class. I think this OL class is already underrated. We aren't giving up on Pepe. I think they plan on putting McKinnie on Pepe like they did with Cantwell. That tells you, all you need to know, there. McKinnie is getting inducted into the Ring of Honor in October. McKinnie is out promoting his foundations mental health awareness event they are having at the Hard Rock, so he is around. I think Canon, will be a Cane. Kolojay is a priority. We have options that aren't plan B's in a normal year. I feel good about several of these kids we want badly at other positions. Let's see how the 1st big weekend at the end of May goes with 6 - 5*'s as of now and 20 recruits. I feel way to good with things right, now. I am feeling good about the state of the program. Go Canes!
