The idiots on these boards never seem to understand that star ratings are sometimes a function of which schools are chasing a kid. I forgot who it was, one of the big time recruiting gurus of the '80's, maybe it was Max Emfinger, who told me some kids get rated high because of the schools showing interest. Maybe it was Allan Wallace at SuperPrep, I don't remember. I think maybe it was Wallace.
Since there were so many under-the-radar south Florida kids back then, our recruits were never highly rated. I still think there are under-the-radar kids, perhaps more in south Florida than other places. Bobby Bowden used to say the schools in south Florida were so big it was hard to unearth all the less-celebrated but still worthy prospects. Maybe UM had an advantage because we were on the ground.
