Miami offered Aranda $1 mill a year

not sure i believe this. aside from the boards which have gotten every hire wrong. we didnt hear much about aranda and UM. Diaz came out of the blue but he was a mickey andrews protege when Richt was at FSU. Also, he and Kool are 4-3 guys. Richt made it clear the type of defense he wants to play and it wasnt Aranda's. i could be wrong but i feel that richt was prob going Diaz all the way

Ariz is rarely wrong on these things

Implicit in the word "rarely" is that it does happen, he could have been wrong. Just saying.

SO basically if Richt hadn't waited and offered him 3 weeks ago we would have Aranda.

How do we know Richt didnt offer him immediately? Aranda could have told Richt he was waiting till after his bowl game

honestly, even if he did offer Aranda, it was a smart move to go to LSU. Les Miles is clearly on the way out and he might wind up the HC.

I doubt LSU hires a first time HC, who was apart of a failing regime, but we'll see. Aranda could easily use his experience, if he succeeds, at LSU or Miami to get a HC job.

Would have loved him in Miami but I like Diaz as a Plan B. The hires have been made and now it's time to wait & discuss until spring game & 2016 season.

How the fvck do you go from Aranda to Diaz is beyond me. FFS after all the ripping on Jancek I did I'd take him in a heartbeat of Diaz.

Huh? He was a Mickey protege at fsu even though he was there for a year as a GA? That strains credulity.

As for aranda, my guess is that he chose lsu assuming miles would be gone soon and he'd be given serious consideration. That is a risky move, though. The other reason could be philosophy- maybe he felt he could do his own thing at lsu.

So he panicked and hired a joke corch.

Aranda would have been a program changing hire. And Richt couldn't land him. He preferred to go to a sinking ship than come here for $1mil.

Absolute epic failure.

May have to ban this donkey soon for her own good.

She's going to stroke out soon.

So we go from possibly Aranda, to this:

Manny Diaz defensive rankings (total/scoring)

2010 MSU: 49th/22nd
2011 UT: 11th/33rd
2012 Texas: 69th/74th
2013 Texas: incomplete, was fired after giving up 550 rushing yards to Baylor
2014 LA Tech: 32nd/54th
2015 MSU: 36th/58th

Fuuuck

No not basically. Because your services have never been desired by high level head-hunters/recruiters you do not understand that Aranda was in the driver seat. We likely approached/offered (if even true) a long time ago, but because he is an Alpha male with marketable skills he was able to pump the breaks, see what else opened up, survey the landscape, create a bidding war perhaps, and go to the team he wished at the time of his choosing. See, people with true skills do not simply jump at the first bone that is thrown to them because they know that new bones will likely be tossed as well and they are good enough that they know the old bone wont be taken away. So, no, basically nothing you said is likely correct and it is indicative of overly-reductionist logic manifested by an unsophisticated mind.

Nah, I'll disagree here...Diaz has more experience and at least fielded a top 15 defense before

Would not be surprised if Diaz only lasts one year, here. Richt will go after a real DC after next season.
Hope Diaz surprises everyone, and who's to say he will run the same exact defense he has previously used? He'll have input from Kool and others not to mention CMR. The good news is we have a good part of the puzzle complete and when the NFL regular season is done a few more pieces may fall into place. I did like Aranda, especially after seeing some of the film published on CIS, but hey now we move ahead and get some good crootin underway.

Pretty telling, if the numbers are true Aranda was most likely coming here but lsu unexpectedly opened with Steele leaving IMO and that changed things a bit. Personally Aranda is good but Diaz is a good hire as well as he has competed in arguably the toughest division in football where as Aranda was not going against many high level athletes or offenses outside osu, Michigan maybe. Regardless coach kool's coaching style fits ALOT better with Diaz than it does with Aranda

People getting rustled b/c of the cut of my jib.

However you feel about me, you can't argue the numbers. And the numbers say Diaz is trash.

So LSU outbid us for Aranda and I assume they'll do the same with Raymond. It's the coaching equivalent of getting our hat knocked off the table instead of not being considered at all. If it's not enough to get the guys you want, then it doesn't mean s***.

Don't really care about being willing to spend more than we did in the past when it's still not enough to land top targets to fill out the staff. Especially when the fallback option at DC is so incredibly underwhelming.

Yup. 1 mil is relative. Clearly 1 mil isn't enough to land an elite DC in 2015. Once again, we are behind the times on what it takes to be elite. LSU will continue to excel, while we get stuck with the Cuban Dorito. Or is the Defensive Coley?

So you find it hard to believe that LSU would outspend UM?
