Miami/ND analysis-prediction

Agree with everything here but Jadarian Price kid is impressive. He is pretty proven as he had 700+ yards. Good size, has explosive runs in limited carries And elusive with good size. Has good size, vision, can make 1st guy miss in open field and can house it. He has more yards than both our guys who we talk highly of last year and he was 3rd option in their running attack.

The reason I'm not looking at Price as seriously is your point about "limited carries". He might be great. He might do some damage. But last year, it was "change of pace RB" yardage, it was not "bell-cow RB" yardage. On top of which, he played last year with a running QB, which changes the situation a fair amount if the defense is overly keyed on stopping the QB run.

As for comparing yardage, yeah, our guys will not have big numbers when we have the greatest single-season QB production in Miami history. Yes, Price had more YARDS than Fletch and Lyle. He also had more CARRIES than Fletch and Lyle. He also played in SIXTEEN games, compared to 13 for Fletch and 12 for Lyle. Both Damien Martinez AND Jordan Lyle had a higher yards-per-carry number than Jadarian Price. Which is not a criticism, it's just an attempt to reflect that ND's offense and running game were structured differently than Miami's last year.

The Price kid is impressive. What I would like to see is whether he can perform at that same level if (a) the QB does not run as effectively as Riley Leonard once did, and (b) Miami is able to slow down and/or contain Jeremiyah Love. And, again, that is not a slam on Love, it is just a question since we Miami's first priority will be to stop Love and force the freshman QB to try to beat us.

Can't wait. Should be fun.

Cleveland Gary didn't fumble and he made the first down. If we had instant replay, Jimmy has another ring.

100% correct.

It was 4th and 7 from the 11 and the refs mistakenly thought it was 4th and goal.

Jimmy was jumping around making the "first down" arm motion. He was not patting the ground to signal "the ball was down".

Makes sense. Think his role will increase because someone usage has to go up with QB carries going to NFL. They will want to protect their young qb some and Love is gonna be used in many roles I assume also.

In 2017, ND was coached by an overrated, arrogant loser who has yet to win a significant game in his career; they expected to just run right through us. This year, that couldn’t be further from the truth, they will be very ready. That’s the biggest difference.

As for these position group rankings, you’re pretty generous, especially at positions like RB. They have a Round 1 guy, we don’t. Fletcher has been good, not great and had some issues hanging onto the ball. Our depth is solid. WR, we are replacing our all-time leading receiver, there’s a lot of production there. LB will be an issue they can exploit. We aren’t deep there and last year was really rough. It doesn’t matter ultimately, we’re a “B” or better in all places but K. That should be enough to beat anyone on our schedule, with the latter biting us at some point. I hope it isn’t this one.

Being ready for anal doesn't make it any easier or more enjoyable. At least that's what certain CIS porsters have said...

Facts.

Mario and Dawson and the NIL investors did not go recruit the best QB in the portal for $4M(?) just to run the ball. Beck is the most experienced QB in all college football in terms of playing quality opponents. Cam had tons of latitude in calling plays even vs. UF last season. Beck will have even more. If he sees an opening, he will have full authority to audible a pass anywhere on the field he wants to go.
100% if ND expects Miami to try and make this a B10 game they got something else coming. That would be playing right into NDs hands. Miami gonna move fast, try to speed it up. I wouldn’t be surprised if Carson throws the ball 35-40 times

I feel pretty good going into this one. The teams are more matched than people want to think, and we have a clear advantage at QB. Itll be a good one, and for what’s it’s worth like others have said on here, Mario game prep to open the year is pretty good.

Listen if our defense, especially dbs get lit up be a guy playing his first real game then we deserve to lose. I think their dbs will give us trouble but our offense should have alot more chances than theirs. So the possession battle will be key to this game, if we can win their early and get the crowd going our defense should be able to stop any momentum

And i don’t know much about this new qb but i hear they say he’s the pocket passer of the two, i may be alone here but i would much rather face riley leonard or someone like him than someone who can make real throws lol

Riley Leonard was terrible idc what the numbers say, would not be surprised if they upgraded the qb BUT for his first game? With our upgrades at DB and hopefully DC? AND we’re at home at night??? Should not be a huge challenge unless this kid is rare or something

I believe that for Game 1, we will take fewer downfield shots than we will down the road. I think we'll be relying on the run and the run-to-set-up-shorter-and-crossing-pattern plays, at least for the ND game. The more snaps these WRs get, the more explosive this offense will become. People on this board will likely panic, but I think our offense will still be efficient game one

Just saying…. This is what was said with Dawson in game 2 ever as OC at UM vs A&M with TVD (30 attempts, 374 yards)

They said this again last year vs UF with Cam being in new system and game one being on the road in “hostile” environment.
(35 attempts, 385 yards)

Dawson gonna let Beck air that **** out… it’s who he is.

I only say that because I literally don't know what to expect from ND's defense. According to all the "Insiders," they apparently have one of the better Defenses in the country. How true that is, I don't know. We have good athletes at the WR position who are great in open space, so those cross patterns and shorter passes may be more effective early on in the game. We wear them down and then start airing it out on them

Make 2025 the year when we stop comparing position groups to discuss the outcome of football games.

I genuinely appreciate the effort, but I cannot stress how irrelevant the match-up of our running backs against their running backs is. They don't play football at the same time.

I understand your premise, you're comparing overall rosters. But again, that's essentially irrelevant. Miami, position by position, was superior to Syracuse. But they had a MASSIVE advantage in what was BY FAR the strength of their team (their passing game) versus what was BY FAR the weakness of Miami's team (the secondary). And that one area of massive strength versus crippling weakness decided the entire football game.

IMO the story of the game will come down to Miami's WR's versus ND's back 7....and Miami's front 7 versus ND's backs. If we can limit Love and the group somewhat, we'll be successful on defense. If we can get open against their secondary, we'll be able to move the ball consistently. Unfortunately, I think ND has the edge in both those spots, but it's not like Miami is totally devoid of advantages. I love our corners against their WRs, especially when you factor in a new QB in a very loud environment and what I feel will be a substantial pass rush. I think we'll be able to run the ball efficiently on anyone we play. We have a very experienced quarterback who ND will not be able to rattle or confuse. And we'll have 70,000 sauced gorillas at full throat, in humidity so thick you can wear it. I love our chances.

But these are 2 good teams. We're home, and they have a QB playing for the first time. I seriously doubt it'll be 41-8, but there's no reason to not get this done.

Was just about to post this same exact thing. I've never understood the QB matchup analysis. QBs literally never face off. I feel analysis should typically be (with some flexibility depending on matchups):
  • QB/WR/TE vs CB/S
  • OL vs DL/LB
  • RB/TE vs LB/S
  • OC vs DC
This is correct.

I continue to be amazed that anyone thinks is relevant to compare the same position group to each other. It's 100% irrelevant. It tells you nothing about what the game will look like.

Only the matchups matter.

When you say "we have an advantage at QB," do you mean that our QB matches up more favorable against their D than their QB matches up against our D?

Because that's what matters. Our QB and their QB do not matchup against each other.

As usual, lot’s of unknowns on both sides especially being game 1. I’m not too concerned with our offense. A lot of stability there in Dawson’s 3rd year. Obviously, the real ? is can Hetherman get his system installed quickly especially with all the new players.
