Miami/ND analysis-prediction

If that preview was done by anyone other than Brian Smith, I would destroy it. However, that dude knows football and REALLY knows recruiting. Shodell said both of ND's DE's are likely out for the game, which nullifies the second point. I don't get why the QB factor isn't being talked about more.
Shodell may have been referring to last year when both, Traore and Bethello, were out for the season. Bethello sustained another injury and will miss our game but Traore will start. Regardless, they have pretty good depth there due to younger guys having to be rushed into playing time last year.

The QB factor is being nullified by the belief our receivers aren't that great/experienced and will be going up against one of the better secondaries. Carr will have the best RB in the nation and one of the better OL to depend on while Denbrock won't overcomplicate things for him.

Agree with everything here but Jadarian Price kid is impressive. He is pretty proven as he had 700+ yards. Good size, has explosive runs in limited carries And elusive with good size. Has good size, vision, can make 1st guy miss in open field and can house it. He has more yards than both our guys who we talk highly of last year and he was 3rd option in their running attack.

He concerns me more than the other back

I assume the game on D will look similar to 2017 but in a different way load the box but play man. Think we played a lot of zone against Winbush bc he was so inaccurate. Play man make the windows to throw smaller and make Carr beat us can’t let Love beat us
Idk, I think I'd be the opposite.

Man is simpler for QBs to ID and make decisions for. Especially since Carr seems like a gunslinger type who will be more than willing to throw balls up for his Wrs to have a shot at. And he was a 5star Qb coming out of HS if I'm not mistaken, so wouldn't be shocked if throwing into tight windows ends up a strong suit of his. Though I get the idea being you tighten the coverage and maybe a QB making his first start is a little tick hesitant and our Dline is able to get the pressure particularly because he's not really a run threat it seems. Plus I assume we'll be blitzing quite a bit...

Meanwhile Zone is how you can really confuse Qbs, especially inexperienced ones, and MOST IMPORTANTLY I believe zone is more benefitical for our absolute primary objective - Stopping the Run. And if Carrs not just willing to chill and pick apart zones with easy completions, then he'll make a mistake if he tries to force things. In heavy man if he tries to force things, ultimately he could still be entirely reliant on his WRs to make plays, and that may not be a bad strategy for them. They usually have a good Te. Fields is 6'4" 220lbs if not bigger and has had back to back 800yard seasons.

Their talent is overrated. Not worried about a bunch of whites and light skins from the Midwest and northeast.

Welcome to prime time in Miami Gardens, b*tches.

Yes this is a serious post.

ND position groups v. Miami’s
QB Miami
Wr ND
TE Miami
OL ND
RB ND
DL ND
LB ND
DB ND
Special Teams: ND
Coaches: ND

Intangibles? Miami has big home field advantage. ND has Pope and millions of Catholics praying ND wins.

Prediction: Miami 31-30.
I'll play

QB - Miami by far. Don't even think it's close.
RB - ND as long as Love is healthy. We have more depth.
WR - ND, but by end of season Miami. Malachi Fields is better than our WRs. but I think the rest of our WRs will be better than their guys.
TE - Miami
OLine - Miami. Both probably top 5 by end of year. Their projected starting Guard getting hurt certainly doesn't help in this comparison especially when you factor in they lost a lot of depth that was starting for them in their playoff push...

EDGE - Miami by a lot. Think some of yall are vastly overestimating NDs EDGE room compared to ours. We will have the best EDGE room every game of the season imo.
DT - ND, but by end of season Miami. They have a bunch of solid older guys, and maybe that gives them a slight advantage over us to start out the season especially after experience in the Championship. I think we have more talent though. Like their DT3/4 is a transfer from Louisville that got dominated by us when we played...
LB - ND
CB - ND slightly, but we have better depth. Gray was very good on limited snaps in 23, and i guess was average last year but got torched in the playoffs. Leonard Moore was elite last year. But then what? Their nickel is transfer from Bama who is solid to good but is he better than Scott? So its OJ/Lucas/Oconnor/Brantley against Moore and Gray... literally the rest of their CB depth chart is Freshman I'm pretty sure.
S - Miami. Idk maybe I'm crazy for this take but their top 3 safeties are the transfer from VTech who missed all last season, Luke Talich who has played like 100 snaps and got hurt before their playoff run, and then adon Shuler who was good. I think Poyser is the best safety on either team. So...

Returners - Miami
K/P - ND slightly. I mean yall can be scared of our kicking situation all you want, but Notre Dames kicker is a transfer from UNC and wasn't much like vastly better than Auburn lol.

OC - Miami. Dawson > Denbrock. I mean he did good with Ridder at Cinci. He didn't do all that great with LSU given the year after he left the LSU offense went off with all the same players... I'll take Dawson
DC - ND. Their Defense took them to the National Championship. Freeman is a good coach and ultimately I think even though both us lost our DC, they are much more proven there still.

Unlike the 2017 matchup, this matchup I believe has more irrational variables being discussed negatively against Miami compared to 2017.

The idea that a healthy Carson Beck is somehow lesser of an option than Carr and some other QBs mentioned is laughable. On resume: he is the most experienced and solidified big game QB left in CFB this year. His down years was Levitt/Nussmeier/Sellers best seasons. There isnt a single QB who faced the level of opposition Beck has faced the last 3 years from practice to games.

The reality is on paper these teams are highly identical in how they’ll approach this year and the position by position is a wash.

In my humble opinion, ND has the advantage at:

RB (A+ to Miami A-)
DB (A to Miami A-)
LB (A to Miami B+)
Head coaching.

Miami has the advantage at:
QB (A to likely B)
OL (A+ to A)
DL (A- to B+).

The deciding factors for the game to me are:

Can Greathouse and ND WRs help Carr and can Miami DL get pressure on Carr.

The last great X-factor is Mario. This is his chance to show where he is as a coach and the program is. Miami doesn’t NEED a win, but this game will likely show how we perform this year and whether or not we’ll get to that next level in the immediate future. I think a win here means Miami charges towards 11-1/12-0 and a date in Charlotte. I don’t see Miami winning this game and losing any if not one.

A loss will be a barometer test showing we aren’t “there.” The likelihood is whatever fails us on 8/31 will fail us again during the season.

I think Miami has far more at stake and I don’t see ND with any generational players that can tip the scale dramatically in their favor this night.

If Miami new DC/players are what they are billed, I expect them to really turn up the heat inspired by a Rabid Hard Rock crowd that’s been waiting for this moment. I don’t see Miami losing because they don’t have a choice but to win as far as perception. This is the moment. Miami in 2025 I expect will mimick the 98 Tennessee Vols in that they lose the 1st pick at QB but are sneakily more balance and excel more the following season with an experience guy. (Tee Martin-Carson Beck).

Miami will win 27-17. A late game INT from the new portal additions will seal ND faith as they drive to tie and maybe win in Hard rock and it comes up short.

This is the Canes moment.
We could win this game only to lose to NCST or Pitt

Last year I bet the Miami -UF game and Moved the line to Miami -6. Got back $285 on $100. This year I am going to start out and move the line to Miami -1 and hope for the best. We win worst case I get a push.

For all the media folks out there crowning ND in August, did they forget that they lost to NORTHERN ILLINOIS last year AT HOME!?!?!
Yes, I get it....beginning of the year, excuse this, excuse that....end of the year they were national runners up (that point is super valid btw).....but it does not cancel out them losing AT HOME to Northern Illinois..

I hate these pieces of sheet. Like seriously. I hate them. I hate their team, their school, their stupid little nothing town, their arrogant unemployed and uneducated white trash racist fans. I hate their colors. I hate their stupid mascot....a lot. I hate Knute Rockne - who the F names their kid "Knute"? I mean it's Newt. Dummies couldn't even spell. I hate Dan Devine, Ara Paraseghian, Charlie "tall pants" Weis, Brian "it's ok to film in gale force winds" Kelly, Gerry Faust. I want Lou Holtzch and Rudy to be tied together and burnt at the stake as though they're some sort of medievil Schismatic outlaw religious diad. Slow burn obviously. I hate the media bias in their favor. I hate that they have "their own network." I hate that they're not in a conference, yet get the benefits of being in one. They suck and everything associated with them sucks.
ND evokes the greatness of CFB. And that’s the hate that one team could have from all of CFB. Focused on them. I love to hate them, not just as a Cane( with good reason), but as a Fan. I heard Jimmy Johnson call into Joe Rose’s show on morning last week and talk about the game and past games. Jimmy couldn’t resist the impulse to point out, that we gave ND their greatest loss, point wise ever under him. That’s the kind of love/hate I’m talking. We hate them and love to kick their As**s every chance we get. And that’s on 8/31 Go Canes🙌🏽

Cleveland Gary didn't fumble and he made the first down. If we had instant replay, Jimmy has another ring.

Come on..you know you love them.

Football is a complex sport right. Hard to figure out which aspects are going to have the most effect on the game. Especially in college, where you can pull statistics that are bloated and distorted by the massive difference in teams talent.

That being said. I believe Miami has a better chance of running a balanced offense than ND. We have the offensive line to run or pass protect. Dawson has to and will pass the ball. We have the talent to do that with our receiving corps and QB. ND has a better chance of being forced into a one dimensional offense that will allow us to play downhill. This may be a little wishful thinking, but I could see the wheels fall of ND if they fall behind early.

27-17 Canes
A complex game is correct and luck is also a factor, the best team does not always win. We do not talk about it because we cannot foresee what lucky bounce one team will get vs the other. The QB can throw the ball right at an "unseen" opposing LB , bounces off his chest and into the hands of the TE for a TD. An exaggerated example but there are plays like this every game at a smaller magnitude that help determine the outcome.

And Yes-college stats can be very deceiving due to team talent yet many still bring them up when comparing teams with no similar opponents.

This program is not being taken serious by anyone outside of coaches, odds makers and our fanbase. Not against ND, not against the ACC or making the ACC Championship. Their is bulletin board material put out by the hour. Grab a collage of quotes and fill a white board, chalk board size area that these players have to see everyday. They are being completely disrespected. For the thousandth time, this season is on Mario and staff. Their is no excuse to lose to anyone, outside of ND and I personally believe we have better talent than them, we should win this game, in my opinion. We all have opinions and Miami has the better roster on my breakdown. Breakdowns don't account for coaching. Coaching wins this game. On repeat for the thousandth time, this season is all on coaching for Miami.

A 2.5 point line is not disrespectful. ND played for the Ship last year while we got beat by Iowa freaking State. This game is a toss-up.
