Seems those Nike bags didn’t help Oregon get a top 10 class until Mario got there and seemed those Nike bags never had them reach a .90 player average until Mario got there

His gameday coaching has a lot to be desired but imagine arguing he’s not one of the best if not the nest recruiters in the entire country

LOL. Eugene Oregon is 13 hours from LA. It's 14 hours from Vegas. USC has been down, and they signed more 5 star recruits than Oregon. Why? Location. Six of the 7 five star recruits the trojans signed were from California. A seventh, Bryce Young, was committed, and then flipped to Alabama.

I wouldn't expect Oregon to dominant California recruiting, just like I wouldn't expect Texas A & M to dominant south florida recruiting. Players aren't likely to travel that far to go to school.

Mario was 247 # 1 national recruiter in 2015, he finished second in 2016. The man can recruit. You add in the fact that he will have the most talent in his own backyard, and recruiting is the last thing I'm worried about.

Now, gameday coaching. Dude needs help with that.

Notre Dame isn't losing in the playoffs because of their recruiting. They are losing because of bad QB play, and a lack of talent at the skill position.

Clemson has won in the playoffs, and if you take the last 6 recruiting cycles, they're averaging the 11th best recruiting class, while Notre Dane is 11.5. Notre Dame just hasn't had a Deshawn Watson or Trevon Lawrence.

Here's my proposed bet, which is a modification of the above so you are obviously under no obligation to accept if you find the terms unfavorable or otherwise unreasonable:

If UM recruits at least 15 HS/JUCO signees* in the 2022 class and ends up in the top 12** on the 247 composite by average recruit rating as of 9:00 AM EST on April 2, 2022*** I win. If they are outside the top 12, you win. If UM signs fewer than 15 HS/JUCO kids, the wager is off. Because I find ban bets abhorrent and completely devoid of entertainment value, the winner gets to select the loser's avatar**** for one full calendar year, through 9:00 AM on April 2, 2023.


* 15 HS/JUCO kids is within the lower bound of @305to954's earlier suggestion of at least 15-16 kids (inclusive of transfers) being necessary for average recruit rating to be a viable indicator, and which you gave the "Agree" reaction, so I assume 15 is a reasonable number for you. I'm also not including non-juco transfers because how they are rated as transfers compared to their ratings as HS recruits makes their ratings suspect IMO. And I don't want a higher number here since it only makes it more likely we push, as credible posters have stated they expect a HS class in the 15-18 signings range, if that.
** I do not consider an 8-spot drop a "plummet," but I see how it could reasonably be considered "far below" UM's current ranking by some people since it would take them out of the "elite" level. Top 12 seems like a reasonable spot. And if you consider the fact Mario's been here a month, then it's downright charitable.

And I just want to reitertate your point..the class he was about to bring in to Oregon was going to be INSANE. Imagine the kids he had already in the bag and he was going to add the 5* OT from Washington (Connery?) and Cyrus Moss. He was closing in fast on a top 3-4 class. The man can recruit with the best of them.

15 still is a bit low. There wasn't a single team in the top 50 last year that had only 15 recruits. The point of my argument was that if we landed a bunch of kids, like the other porster was arguing, that our ranking would plummet. I have been beating the average recruiting ranking drum for years here. Back as far as when Richt was landing a bunch of 3 stars pushing our class rank up. Average recruit rank is the best indicator of a class rank, but it has to be within reason.
