Miami Hurricanes Roster Composition - Updated to 5/10/2020

This is off the top of my head but IIRC these are the Miami picks from the last 4 drafts
2020 - 4th round, 4, 5, 7
2019 - 4, 5, 5, 6, 6
2018 - 3, 4, 4, 5, 6, 7
2017 - 1, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 7

All you have to do is dig up VT’s draft numbers, GT’s, UVA’s, Duke’s, NC’s, Pittsburgh’s... over the last four years.

I would love to see that same graphic for the past 10 years. That graphic counts the single most talented CFB roster ever but it was 20 years ago.

We’ve sucked since 2004/5. So that’s 15+ years of trash... who do you think replaces us at the top of this chart during that time? Duke? UNC? VT? Pittsburgh? The Coastal has been trash since EVER.

It's pretty crazy how much churn there has been in the ACC Coastal since its formation:

2005: Virginia Tech (7-1) Miami goes 6-2
2006: Georgia Tech (7-1) Miami goes 3-5
2007: Virginia Tech (7-1) Miami goes 2-6
2008: Virginia Tech (5-3) Miami goes 4-4
2009: Georgia Tech (7-1) Miami goes 5-3
2010: Virginia Tech (8-0) Miami goes 5-3
2011: Virginia Tech (7-1) Miami goes 3-5
2012: North Carolina (5-3) Miami goes 5-3 and would technically win the division but forfeits due to NCAA investigation
2013: Duke (6-2) Miami goes 5-3
2014: Georgia Tech (6-2) Miami goes 3-5
2015: North Carolina (8-0) Miami goes 5-3
2016: Virginia Tech (6-2) Miami goes 5-3
2017: Miami (7-1)
2018: Pitt (6-2) Miami goes 4-4
2019: Virginia (5-3) Miami goes 4-4

Beginning in 2012, every year has seen a new champion emerge. Every year has seen someone pop up with an unexpectedly strong conference record, while Miami loses games that they should not against lesser ACC opponents.

Meanwhile in the Atlantic division, Clemson and Florida State have dominated the group for the last eleven years.

2005: Florida State (5-3)
2006: Wake Forest (6-2)
2007: Boston College (6-2)
2008: Boston College (5-3)
2009: Clemson (6-2)
2010: Florida State (6-2)
2011: Clemson (6-2)
2012: Florida State (7-1)
2013: Florida State (8-0)
2014: Florida State (8-0)
2015: Clemson (8-0)
2016: Clemson (7-1)
2017: Clemson (7-1)
2018: Clemson (8-0)
2019: Clemson (8-0)

If Miami does not win it, I'd say this is the year that UNC pops up with a 7-1 or 8-0 conference record.

Crazy. When was the last time VT out recruited us? Our coaching has been shameful.

I know the Atlantic has always been basically a 2 team race.

So twice in the last year we beat the division champions, but lose to lesser opponents. The weird thing about the Coastal this last decade is each year one team has an outlier season then quickly they return to norm. Based on these trends, UNC and Georgia Tech will be due for division titles over the next two years.

Here's a really good article that just came out two years ago about our decline. I didn't even know this came out, but this highlights everything I've mentioned.

Thanks for sharing. I read the article. I do agree with a lot of it especially on the coaching salaries. Lovelady should jave been interviewed, but as I said, I'm good with DiMare. He has the baseball team on the right track and seams to be his own man as far as his baseball philosophy goes which is different from Jim Morris.

Time will tell with future hires. I think Richt and Diaz were circumstancial. Richt was just let go by UGA at a time when we were getting ready to search for a coach. You're not going to make a veteran coach go thru an interview process with other coaches especially a coqch of Richt's stature. Diaz in a similar fashion. Richt resigned on a whim that nobody expected. The timing of it made it necessary to make a move on Diaz before he settled on at Temple. If Richt had announced during the season that he would retire, I believe there would have been a coaching search process. If he announced a month or 2 later, I think there still would have been a process. It's as though Richt made the decision to resign so that Diaz could back out of Temple and take the job. As I said, It doesn't happen if Richt resigned during or after Sprong practice.

Thing to remember is that coaching hires are all timing. Coaches need to be named before Spring ball and really before national signing day.

Thanks again for pointing out the article.

Exactly. We should own the Coastal. That’s what it says to me. If we just start there, we would have a plus 50% Blue Chip Ratio every year. Then, with competent coaching, we could work our way into competing with Clemson.

Swinney’s first title was won with an average of top 10-12 classes.

Dominate the Coastal first. We have the talent.
If we're smart, that's our plan. Gotta take steps. Been saying it for awhile, but I'm not deluding myself into thinking we can be a top 3 program right away. Take the steps. Win the Coastal. Build momentum. Win it again. Build more momentum. That's how it works.

We had 1 good season in the last 17, and we parlayed that into all kinds of heat until the bottom fell out suddenly in Pittsburgh.

The new NIL rules potentially give us a huge advantage. The U is one of the most recognizable brands in sports. When we were in the midst of that streak in 2017 we had more airtime than any other program in the country. If we can string together a couple 10 win seasons in a row, the momentum would be unstoppable. Recruits will be beating down the door at the Hecht like World War Z. This season can't come fast enough.

We will see what our coaching is all about in year two when they come visit. Top to bottom. Both sides.
