The most encouraging part to me is his source claiming they'll be reaching out to candidates who might be "perceived to be out of reach.". Hopefully this is genuine and not a line of b.s.

The part that worries me most is that the same BOT members involved in interviews last round will be doing so again. This is the same group that was offended by Dan Mullen's "****iness." That's not comforting.

D$ is spot on regarding Jackson. But, when he's getting info from Trustees during a coaching search, then you know the leak is strategic. From where I stand, Butch is the frontrunner. Trustees dropping positive tidbits for the public to start to digest. If Butch weren't at the very top, no way a Trustee would purposefully prop him up through Barry and set the admin up for a major backlash when he's not hired. IT'S ****ING HAPPENING.

i hope you're right. As I read it, I was thinking that they are placating the fans and giving us tidbits that he's honestly being consdered to calm us - but he's only a fallback option. I think people are believing what they want to believe and while he's getting a shot......I just don't see how Blake James ego allows for the fans to make the pick.

We have to apply psychology to this predicament and figure out HOW to give Blake the opportunity to save face and make this choice seem his own.

Was it Flake that chose to fire Fraulden? I don't think so. How did he save face? He just lied and said it was his call. Rinse and repeat with Butch.

His hand was forced by an epic drubbing by Clemson. That was different and they had to do something to quiet down the noise. I just don't see how his ego allows for Butch to be the choice, esp. When insisting he's conducting a nationwide search and there is deep interest in this job. How do you announce the fallback guy in that situation? You'd essentially be saying you struck out.

If this is true, though, Butch Davis is a pretty amazing safety plan to have in place and you have to like this strategy.

If they pursue coaches like Dantonio, Patterson, Gundy, Mullen, Herman, etc, and make them all say no first, Butch Davis is a **** of a consolation prize.

I just hope Strong stays out of the mix.

I'll repeat....these 2 are on different levels. There's a reason one is available and one isn't. If Kelly did become available there would be a bidding war the likes of which the college game hasn't seen in a while. There's nobody knocking down Butch's door in any way close to this manner.

I get that some of you have an infatuation with Butch...but you guys need to stop acting like he'd be a sure thing. He's not a great gameday coach and his management style would take time to field a winner. He'd be far from an overnight fix.

Seems like Kelly would be more interested in USCw than Miami, if he was thinking about leaving or got fired.

Didn't a lot of the problems at UNC start before Davis got there? I thought the bogus majors were started for the basketball players, and then it spread from there. I know there were some things specific for the program, which would have been under his watch, and I also think he knew what Blake was doing, but it seems like UNC threw Davis under the bus to save the basketball program.

Here's the parts that stood out to me as great news if true:
1. The "Cristoballbag is already picking out office decor at El Dorado Furniture" stuff is fake;
2. Not in a rush to hire;
3. Positive energy about the desirability of this job instead of the typical moping about UM being a bad job. You'll never attract a great HC if you don't convey to the world that this is an incredible job;
4. They are putting out feelers to big fish who mopey UM fans think might be out of reach. Like I've been saying, this is my "make him say no" approach. What's the harm in asking? You never know if a Gary Patterson might think he's peaked at TCU and wants to see what he can do with access to the best players especially considering his transcendent QB will be gone after this season.

Remember in her words, " this is the new Miami" she is the main catalyst of why things have not been in order with Miami football over the past decade.

Next to all those 1st round picks/All American Butch recruited, the fact that the Whale did want Butch is the best reason to hire him. She wanted to destroy the program; clearly Butch was THE ONE coach she did not want. That makes him the one coach we NEED.

Why? You like Chip, we get that. Butch will build a team with the Jimmies and the Joes who on the defensive side will put an end to Chip pretty little offense. Our old defense is the answer to the up tempo offense. It does not rely on substitution and complex schemes. Speed, aggression, and versatile players were the key to old Cane defense. Why get Chip when we can have the guy who can beat him?
