Official Miami Herald Bain article

Whether Miami kept it under wraps is irrelevant. This story is newsworthy & it’s not previously reported, so every reason to be reported now. There’s no statutes of limitations on when a police report or story can no longer be reported. Plenty of stories are dated due to being reported off newly unearthed documents or reports.

That’s not my point. My only question to you is why you mentioned about it being kept under wraps. And it’s relevant because YOU BROUGHT IT UP. Again, how did Miami keep it under wraps?

I mean, I hope you realize that Miami has absolutely zero control on what is in the public record. This was in the public record.

That that was an accusatory statement you made, and you have to answer for it.

The only thing newly unearthed here is that Bain is in the NFL draft.

Timing of it is obviously suspicious, but fact is it had never been reported. Again, it’s news.
News entirely because Bain is a first round pick. If it had Andy Lopez the produce manager at Publix, it would never be written.

Had this showed up after the accident or even when the girl died, it would have been news.

My point is it’s news. Whether it was reported at the time it happened or now, it’s still newsworthy. Granted the timing is horrible & Bain would have probably been better served dealing with it two years ago.

At least three Miami athletes were involved in an accident at 4 in the morning that ultimately resulted in a fatality. Were any injuries reported at the time? Assume it was around the time of spring practice, so anyone held out of practice? Any disciplinary action reported?

Major point is Miami, like most programs, allows the media limited & tightly controlled access to players. They largely control the narrative. Back in the day, the media enjoyed far more access post-practice to players & thus much easier to pickup scuttlebutt around the program.

Exactly, Bain is a public figure. He’s not a faceless store manager.

You are starting to get it.

Still not answering my question. Miami did not limit anyone’s access to the public record.

I’m still trying to figure out how Miami kept something that was a matter of public record “under wraps” as you accused the school of doing.

You keep dodging the question.

One of my biggest gripes here, as with many other "articles" from these local beat writers...is the "spin" they choose to write with. Every knife has 2 sides of the blade. This story couldve just as easily been written, to debunk much of the negativity, and to state the very same facts, with a more nuetral point of view, or even include the additional facts, that it has all seen due process, that the deceased (prayers to the family, and friends) was unseat belted. That the family has no ill will, and has even expressed support for Bain moving forward....but...no. our local beat writers live to bash the f¥€/< out of our players, and program. Couldve also easily included the fact that the timing of this could clearly be an element of sabatoge, by another institution. Included the fact that all of the NFL teams and mgmnt already knows of these circumstances. This creates the exact same story, with more substance, and oversight, and puts a whole different point of view, on the exact same story.
If you want to cover our team, cover us with support (when applicable) and with truth, not just constantly with negative undertones.
Thats why im in the "**** these a$$ clowns" boat so often!
Rant over!!

Under wraps doesn't mean "covered up". You can keep something under wraps without covering it up, which seems to be your confusion here.

No one expects Miami to hold a press conference, but they seemed to do a pretty good job of keeping the information from becoming a big story.

It was news two years ago. It's a smear today. The timing is the entire difference.
A smear by reporting the facts? The Herald author literally wrote the most boring news story ever and because we all know it doesn't make anyone look good, we are calling it a smear.

You think the Herald guy is trying to tank Bain's draft stock? Take off the tinfoil my friend!

We’re all fans here, but some of us live in a fantasy world. Some act like media experts. Fact is the Herald missed the story & the writer penned a bland re-write of the original story. Can’t expect the hometown paper to further bury its head in the sand, Simple facts aren’t a smear. No way in **** Miami was going to take questions & add to the story, or respond to questions about an second auto fatality involving a player.
