Miami got shut out by LaTech four games ago

A ***** can't tell me NOTHING about coaching not being that important!

This is only GAME THREE of our new OC and it's light years better than what we saw last season.
Don't get me wrong, I know the addition of King helps greatly, but EVERYBODY is playing better. The O-line doesn't even look like the same unit from last year.

Personnel-wise, it's basically the same offense from last season (minus the addition of King) and look how much better we are. IN ONLY GAME THREE!
That's what it looks like when you hire PROVEN coaches!
They fvckin' elevate players!

And we're doing it with guys like Harley, Pope and Wiggins. Nothing against those guys, they're decent, but I think we can all admit that they're not exactly atop the food chain when it comes to WR's. Imagine what the offense will start looking like when we put some elite WR's out there. If we can keep this **** going they're gonna be lining up to play here.

You can see how demanding Lashlee is from the sidelines, it looks like he’s never satisfied. Which I like. Always coaching, correcting, teaching.

That’s what a real offense will do for you. Now if only Diaz can get this Defense playing like 2017. We’d be in the CFP for sure.

This year's D is missing two things: dominant play on the DL and extremely steady play on the back end. I loved what I saw from the DL when Harrison-Hunte was in, and the rotation of Phillips, HH, Nesta and Roche is a more talented line IMO than 2017.

Bolden is better than any Safety we've had since Kenny Phillips and Hall is solid, if not spectacular. The problem persists with the weak link after Blades at CB. Somebody needs to step up there in a big way, especially in the next game.

I really wonder what it might look like if Frierson took Ivey's spot and then we rotated the striker situationally between a few guys. He'd bring much more physicality and better tackling ability to the position, and I know the staff is high on K. Smith.

Definitely. Watch his staff too, bro.
I noticed that Hixson is in the RB's ears every time they come off the field, even after a good play.

Lashlee's "never satisfied" approach has trickled down to his position coaches as well.

This DL makes me happiest...

Roche
Nesta
Harrison-Hunte
Phillips

I'll even take our back-up DE's at times too. They're super athletic.
Ford and Miller do absolutely nothing for me. They pretty much look like the pedestrian "developmental" guys that they appeared to be coming out of high school. They're simply not athletic enough for this level of college football...or at least the level we need to be at in 2 weeks.

This is the biggest win in regards to Lashlee and tonight's victory. What was it 11 different players caught a pass (or had a touch)? ELEVEN?? We beat FSU for the next three years tonight. No one from South Florida is gonna wanna go there and play for a team that laid down against their rivals and looked soft all game.

Biggest and most important example to me is the RBs. To get Rooster and Chaney was ASTONISHING. You have to imagine a big part of the pitch is "There is no feature guy. You're gonna get touches and get chances to shine. You're also not gonna have a ton of miles on you before you hit the NFL."

They are both significant contributors at a top 5 program next year without question.

Saying the same thing I am.

I see Ford as a role player/space clogger kind of guy. But HH is way more disruptive. Couple him with Nesta and the two DE's and that's a very, very good DL. The rotation looks promising as far as I can tell but it's hard to say late with limited action.

To give credit where credit is due, Diaz seems to have the same approach. That's been the company line all season: we're not satisfied. It's just a little different coming from an HC where you need to acknowledge progress publicly, etc.

With all due respect I disagree on the 2 things our defense is missing. I dont think that the DL is really part of the problem. They played like a DL that has the players to be dominant. I think we are missing good consistent play at LB. The CBs behind Blades are also a concern like you mentioned but I must also add Baker to that list. He is very inconsistent with his play calling. He was great the 1st half minus the opening drive. I still think Baker is more comfortable playing soft and passive when this defense has clearly demonstrated that they are at their best in attack mode.

Man, we just set a record in this series. WE did.

My hope for this season was Lashlee & King, and thus far, have answered our prayers. It’s a fun team to watch. I’m anxious about Clemson, for two reasons:

1. How do we stack up against an elite team. Let’s be real, UAB is G5 team, UL has proven to be overrated, and FSU is a f’ing mess. However, we caved to such opponents too, hence @DMoney ’s OP. The real test will be in 2 weeks to see how our new car test drives.

2. If, and that’s a big if, we happen to regress against Clemson, and they beat us, how will we respond? That, too, is what I’m interested in. Hopefully we don’t have to find out about #2, and we beat the brakes off Clemson, but it’s real easy to celebrate & feel good til u get punched in the mouth.

It feels like a new day, like we’re finally coming out this ****. Man, Lashlee needs to have whatever bags needed, thrown his way.

Seriously? That’s what you have after we beat FSU 52 to 10. That’s the thought that percolates up in your brain?
Yeah, whole I'm not all doom and gloom like that guy...I think we looked great with King and Lashlee - of course. But, it did seem like we weren't as nice looking with Perry under center.

Granted, I was drunk and celebrating so I want completely focused but it seem like QB play dropped off a bit. What do you think?

I kinda hope to see TVD

Think it's pretty apparent the LB play is not on the same level as previous years, but LB's are not what make the D tick. I'm not so sure on Baker... I'm not high on him. But there were good calls made on D in key situations throughout the night, at least two of which cost FSU points in the red zone.

I'm long on the record expecting the D to take a step back this year, especially early in the season, and that was before we lost Rousseau. But I also think by the end of this season they'll be better than the 2019 D.

Your take on Baker playing soft seems to be in stark contrast to the opinion's of most on here (and among the talking heads), who begrudge the over-aggressiveness. I honestly think the weak spot at CB is the biggest ***** in the armor. Shore up that spot and this is a very, very good defense.

Very good points there. Don't get me wrong I give the guy credit for getting it together and he did make some good calls no doubt.

Also when I criticize Baker for being passive I am referring to the soft zone coverages he plays behind the aggressive blitzing front. I agree about CB being the weakest link especially after Blades although Ivey did make a couple of nice plays tonight. What really bothers me is this huge vulnerability to the run. We just can't seem to stop any type of run to the outside. We give up that corner 8 out of 10 times. It's incredibly frustrating! I would be curious to hear the reason behind this. We also have struggled mightily against draws QB draws, counters, jet sweeps and most misdirection. I would like to see us clean this up as the season progresses.

Schedule was put up during the game tonight and my immediate reaction was "the biggest game of the season is now Pitt." If we lose to Clemson, it's expected. A close game vs a blowout is a big difference. But even if we win, what is the composition of this team? Are we really not satisfied?

Diaz had an excellent opportunity during the presser to effectively say "this is Miami, we're not satisfied without national championships." I don't begrudge him for softening the stance, but if the team mentality is there, we're good, regardless how Clemson goes. If it's not, either it's too early, or Diaz isn't the guy.

Right now, to me, Diaz is starting to look like the guy. The team is buying in, and you can tell because they're consistently repeating the company line. And we're winning, and we're responding positively to adversity.

If you remember during the game, Herbstreit was talking about the world watching, people taking note, people believing and saying "Miami is the real deal" literally right as Wiggins caught the long TD.

I see what you're saying and I'm not (too) worried about it. Mostly, because statistically, we're getting the sacks, TFL's and turnovers when we need to get them. Also, I think part of this D is structured to operate best in the red zone. We do often have busts from over-aggression. But they are far less impactful in the red zone because more players are crowded together. You saw it a few times tonight. Same thing happened vs. UL.

We also played A LOT of backups in the second half on D. And I will take points against in exchange for experience there.

I get what you mean and I would agree. The depth that we will accrue because of the experience these kids are getting will be huge by the end of the year.

You are right about the scheme and the point you made about red zone effectiveness. We have seen it in both games but more particularly tonight. FSU had the ball in the red zone 4 times tonight if I remember correctly. We held them to a FG, got a pick and a sack on 4th down on 3 of those red zone opportunities. I'll take that. I just worry about teams with much better offensive talent like Clemson and UNC but hey I'll take where we are right now because we should improve as the season progresses. Lastly yes we are still getting the sacks, TFLs and turnovers which is huge!

Yeah, it's gonna be a problem. But I think that's more an issue of lack of depth of personnel than scheme.
